Just saw this on the SS contributor dashboard:
"Shutterstock is now supporting vertical video submissions! As part of our ongoing commitment to connect your content to customers, we now support Vertical Video submissions. Submit your Vertical Videos now to get in front of customers."

A bit behind the curve, but a smart move. Vertical has been a great niche for me on Adobe.

So I uploaded 5 vertical videos as a test and they are now online, and I noticed that the HD and smaller sizes that are downsized from the 4K original are very strange. They are listed as HD • 606 × 1080 pixels • MOV, SD • 268 × 480 pixels • MOV, Web • 134 × 240 pixels • MOV.

HD vertical video should of course be 1080x1920. It looks like their downsizing is using the method they use for downsizing horizontal videos, and is making the height 1080 when it should be making the width 1080.

So I'm not going upload any more vertical videos there until they sort this out. I'll try to contact support.

What I also find a bit strange... although strange is rather normal by Shutter...

The announcement email says:
"Review our Vertical Video Content Brief and upload your clips as soon as possible to ensure your work is showcased to our global network of buyers from day one!"

And if you then submit a few videos (50+) it says here :
"You have reached your account's submission limit for videos. Please wait 24 hours to submit more content."

It can take a while to upload 1,200 videos...

I have heard back from SS about the resizing issue. The tech team has been alerted to it.

In the meantime I will hold off uploading any more vertical videos.

Also, regarding the submission limit, I didn't realise they had one, but I think it's never a good idea to submit everything at once anyway. Regularly uploading a few at a time generally seems to place you better in the algorithm.

Any idea if we can submit a 16:9 and 9:16 version of the same clip?
I asked via email Adobe months ago about that and they never bothered to answer, which is disappointing.
In any case, a 4K clip shot 16:9 fits at 90% of 9:16 in HD resolution.

On Adobe I have never had a rejection for submitting vertical versions of horizontal clips, and there is nothing that prohibits it in their video guidelines, so I would say it is ok. However I suppose you might come across a reviewer who would reject one of them if you upload them in the same batch.

That's what I've been doing with AS so far with a staggered upload - with Shutter I try to keep the work as low as possible, because the payment there is also "as low as possible"...

But you're right, at least this way I already have material to upload for the next 2-3 months

Shutterstock has now fixed the resizing of HD from 4K (UHD) vertical. The HD sizes are now being offered at the correct size of 1080 x 1920 instead of 608 x 1080. I have written a new email to their support to ask whether older vertical videos will be re-processed at the correct sizes or whether I should delete and re-upload.

Looking at some of the latest vertical videos, I have seen some HD vertical at 1010 x 1920, downsized from 4096 x 2160. I don't use that aspect ratio, but I wondered if that should be 1080 x 2048.

Also looking at some of the latest vertical videos on the site I saw that PeopleImages (Yuri Arcurs) is busy uploading vertical.

Latest Shutterstock vertical videos have a HD size of 1078 x 1920 downsized from 4K, so they still haven't sorted things out.
