I just noticed a new change on the contributor dashboard of Shutterstock

When you go to check your balance (mouse over the monthly income) you will notice a new ''Follower: (x)''.

Fun to see that some buyers has ''bookmarked you'', got a low 8 followers, not enough to start a sect! :)

Started at 3:00pm over on SS.

And just because you are being followed it doesn't mean you are bookmarked, anyone can follow you or anyone else by going to their port and clicking the green follow tab on the right!

That is a very useful addition. We have been asking for this for years on istock. Good to see one site implementing it.

Does Shutterstock also have a specialized newsletter "New uploads by your preferred artists" or something? The way ebay does it? Or many other online shops?

"Personalize the buying experience". The only solution to the overflow of images is to create personal micro markets within the plattform of an agency.

At least for those agencies that consider themselves a marketplace with a bottom up approach.

Making it even easier for people to keep an eye on the ports of people they want to copy!

Yeah, good suggestions.   I really hope they put this to work for them.

I hope this works only for people with a buyers account.

I see they have number of downloads this month.
It would be good to have downloads today aswell.

If people want to copy others works there's always bookmarks, its not like this followers thing is going to change what is happening anyway.

Can you follow if you are not a buyer? seems like a great idea for buyers, but not good if other contributors can do it, too many parasites on SS shamefully copying illustrations.

I don't think that having a Follow button will change anything for copycats. Before they still copied work without that feature, like qwerty said you could bookmark a portfolio or just keep the link handy. You will always be able to see the agencies images and browse through so from that point of view I don't think it will change anything for copies.

IF you look at it on the positive way, I find it's a good addition for buyers you need a specific style or type of images to follow the progress of new images they are looking for

that isn't possible, don't think there are any top agencies giving you that type of information and understandable once we would possibly take customers down to our sites

the only agency I know doing that is PicFair but then again you get 100% royalties

if I remember well Panthermedia give you some details too (company name), Mostphotos displays VAT/email as well

Individually? Probably not. knowing how many followers other folks have? That could be useful to copycats. Followers are customers. It could be very valuable to know someone has 100, 500, 1,000 customers who are very interested in that person's work. Says a lot about what buyers are looking for.

It would be more useful if Shutterstock would make the Image Gallery Stats fully functional. I wish that IGS could sort the images by sales, as it was possible three or four years ago.

You can do that now. Just click on "Total Purchases" on the table and it'll sort by sales.

What they need is a search function so I can check the performance of specific images.

Agree. And it's still impossible to sort by revenues!

What they really Need is a correct Most Popular. Mine are nowhere near my Most Popular since they screwed up the search Mar 12th 2012. And they desperately need Jon to be Day to Day Boss again.

"Most popular" should rather be called "most trendy" = recently popular, not all time popular.

I have uploaded a photo ~10 days ago which has been sold more than once, every day since.
It is now my second most "popular" (or as I said, "most trendy")

This is great, because if SS would have continued to use the "old popular" based only on downloads or revenue, this photo would have been buried under a pile of old popular photos with no chance to ever see the light!

"Relevant" is closer to the "popular" the way you want it.
