I would be interested to get the prices of shutterstock in $.
Currently, when I visit http://www.shutterstock.com/subscribe.mhtml
I will get the prices in Euro.
If someone can make a screenshot, I would be really happy.

BTW 1 day and one week subscription is not anymore available in the Euro zone.

I can't understand why they insist on having a 'subscription enhanced license', why not give buyers the opportunity to buy one enhanced licence for say $100, everybody would benefit and then just maybe people would be more likely to pay for extended usage rather than just think:
"well I only want the enhanced license features on one image, I'm not paying for five when I only want one, oh well f**k them I'll use it anyway"

Absolutely.  I didn't even realize they had to buy an "enhanced subscription" to DL enhanced licensed images.

You're right, it's crazy not to offer a one-time purchase option for enhanced licenses.

Lisa,

No neither did I until I saw this.

Each and every day I see something else regarding the way microstock sites are treating us, it makes me feel like I'm a new prisoner that's just bent over to pick up the soap and suddenly realised a queue has formed behind me.

It does make you wonder how much thought was put into things when the new pricing was launched. I think SS missed quite a few e.g. single EL purchase, single image purchase, smaller subscription packages.

The adage "If it's not broken don't try to fix it" is not always the best plan. But who knows what goes on behind closed doors. Can I smell a sale on the horizon?

I wonder if SS is mising the mark by not having images available to occasional buyers.  They should realize that if they work exclusively on the Subscription package exclusively, they will be loosing ground to sites like 123RF and DT and iS.  IS saw an advantage by opening up Subscription sales to ride side by side with onetime buyers.

SS shoul make images and enhanced licenses available to buyers who may only need one image for some promotion etc. at a higher fee.  That way buyers who are looking for the use of the image on a one time basis won't have to go elsewhere.  Bottom line - SS can't loose, but the contributors will gain a little more commission because of the higher price.  Only thing is, would SS lower the commission percentage paid to the contributor for these one time buys.

123RF calls the low quantity occasional sale as a Credit Sale (Higher amount for both 123RF and Contributors), and for their registered subscribers a lower price is built into the subscription rate.  I have only been with 123RF four months, but they are tied with my previous best site.  Glad a fellow photog put me on to them.

The enhanced licenses have always been a package - and I think at the very beginning they didn't have the 5 license option.

I hadn't looked at the new EL prices, but it helps to explain why (a) I haven't had an EL since the price increase and (b) $28 per EL is a rotten deal for the contributors. Buyers are paying between $68 and $90 per license; contributors get just $28 of that. When ELs were introduced, the $20 commission was half of the $40 that SS charged  - here's the post

SS has steadily upped its share of this as well as upping the price per license (from nearly $40 to nearly $90 with the old 25 license price and the new 5 license price).

Depressingly this is still probably a bigger percentage for the submitter then we get from the normal subscription sales at SS!!!

SS will likely not offer side by side and one off downloads, they could not pay the same base rate 0.25c for an xxl download on a one off basis, and they would have to pay per size, if an image got a lot of downloads as one off sales at a better rate, then this would start some of thier contributors that only uploaded to SS looking more closely at other sites.

Contributors might want to opt out popular images from the subscription model like we could do on IS, or want a better deal, many more contributors that would never have made the $75 payout might make the cut with more $$ per image.

SS also earns interest on deffered revenue and revenue from unused credits daily which means they know thier cash flow expectation, and the closer SS and IS models become the more chance there will be of contributors comparing like for like revenue and going exclusive with one or the other.

I think that a better option for SS would be a shorter term smaller package for the low end customers that might want a dozen images, being able to download over a shorter period for a smaller amount would attract these, when I redesign my website I do not need 25 images a day for a month, I need a dozen small images, so will I buy credits or subscription, no brainer.

David

B.T.W. I convert earning to credits for Images if I need any, which I could not do at SS, so SS stopped me supporting any fellow contributors there, like I have done on other sites when I needed an image.
