Title: Someone reselling items
Post by: SpaceStockFootage on April 11, 2017, 12:28
Here's one of my clips:

https://www.shutterstock.com/video/clip-11325599-stock-footage-networked-earth-orange.html?src=gallery/23qriuDMjh_OMpx9dsAq8Q:1:13/3p (https://www.shutterstock.com/video/clip-11325599-stock-footage-networked-earth-orange.html?src=gallery/23qriuDMjh_OMpx9dsAq8Q:1:13/3p)

And I've just stumbled across this clip:

https://www.shutterstock.com/video/clip-18804398-stock-footage-growing-global-network-networked-earth.html?src=search/Yx1ywjybvys4S2UmRGClNA:1:72/3p (https://www.shutterstock.com/video/clip-18804398-stock-footage-growing-global-network-networked-earth.html?src=search/Yx1ywjybvys4S2UmRGClNA:1:72/3p)

Have reported it to support, so we'll see what happens. Had a look through the entire portfolio... no other ones of mine, although I did find a couple of clips I recognised, so have let the relevant artists know. Thought I'd share here just in case anybody wants to see if they've uploaded any of their clips.

I wonder how much money they made on it?

Man alive that makes my blood boil. Nice find Space, just wonder how many others are lurking out there. You wouldn't really notice too if you were doing a random search as you'd think it's your clip.

How did you catch them?

They'll delete her/his entire portfolio in a day or 2. This is an open and shut case since your clip ID is much lower than hers. These thieves are getting bolder by the day.

Unbelievable! I wish there was a system in place  that made it easier to detect "duplicate" videos/images.

I wanted to check something in my portfolio, how buyers see it. Now, it's rare I have to look at my portfolio, and I usually forget the quickest way to get to it... is it just me or is going to 'approval status', then clicking on file numbers, within an approval batch number.... not the most intuitive way of getting to your portfolio!

So I just went to the main site and searched for the title of that clip, as it was the first file that came to mind. Still had to go through a page or two, got to my video, clicked on it, went to click on SpaceStockFootage to get to my full portfolio, but there was Anna_Stock instead.

If I had learned the system better, or the back-end was more intuitive... I might never have found it!

Their account has disappeared. Good stuff. Even one of the few works I recognised and told the owner of... he said he recognised a few more... so it definitely wasn't a one off.

I'm surprised that SS is unable to detect such duplicate content...
Anyway, good thing for you.

The sad thing is that not much more happens. It's virtually risk-free thievery with the biggest risk being that the latest payout won't be received...

I've had this happen too and I didn't even get the money from the sales of my stolen items, which was several hundred dollars.

Judging by the video number, it was 'earning'/stealing for quite a few months before being taken down.

I think you should be paid for the downloads the thief's accumulated. It's not your fault that they stole your work. The agencies should have some funds kept aside for this as it's there fault they are allowing obvious duplicates. Surly theres software out there that could pick duplicates up?

I don't make masses of money from the clip on Shutterstock, so I won't lose too much sleep, but I agree it would be nice to be paid their earnings. But as they've probably already paid out and they'd be losing money to send me that money after the fact... I can understand why they don't.

It would probably be less than $250 or so. Better in my pocket than theirs, but still.

If he sold any of your videos what happend then ?
SS hold his earnings i give them to u ?
Hold them and give u nothing ?
SS hold them and report the piracy to the buyers and refund ?

The agencies dont care where they make their money from. By allowing duplicates, not only do they increase their library, but they double their chances of a sale.

If they go through the trouble of stealing and uploading to Shutterstock you can be sure they're trying to sell your stuff all over the web under different names. I would do some detective work on all sites, small and big.

Shutterstock is most likely not the place they got your item from in the first place.

Based on the other content they had in their portfolio, it looks like they got it from VideoHive. I can't knock their buy low, sell high approach... it's a sound tactic.
