I wish it happened at the end of the month, since sales are still almost as good as they were in November (which was a BME)
-
It isn't down for me.
-
It isn't down for me.
Submit end seems ok but if you try and look at your port......
-
No problem here with submit or the buying side for me.
-
Working well... last submitted pictures are online and getting sales.
-
It was down for me too ut seems back to normal.
-
It's normal for me also
@wut, are you from US?
I have no sales from US almost for a week now, it's strange because till last week most of my sales were from US.
-
Yeah I only tried submit (which really isn't important if the buyer's side is working). But still, I'm having a pathetic Friday so far, only a handful of DLs, no ODs so far. So I guess it was down for a while or it's just a coincidence

Nope, Europe. And I'm flattered my English is good enough for you to ask me that :)
On the contrary I've had a bad week when it comes to US sales.Instead of something like 40% of the sales, I only got about 20%, at best, from US
-
got a "1979SUCKS" discount code, anyone? ;)

English is not my native language so it is not that huge compliment that it may looks like :D
There is topic about low US sales these days on shutterstock forum, so we are not only one experiencing that.

I was just asking myself if they have a Holiday over there...With good US sales I'd be on my way to another BME. But I surely wouldn't reach it since I'm pretty sure I'll start experiencing a downward trend next week

Here on Dec 16, SS is just starting to slide for me.
Number of downloads have been fairly steady for the month, but what's hurting me is that the EL rush has dried up. I had a bunch of days with multiple ELs early in the month, but those stopped around Dec 6... so my daily dollar totals look to be really heading down because of this.
But I comfort myself in comparing the daily totals to what I did a year ago. It looks like the holiday slide started right around Dec 15 for me last year as well, so this tells me there's nothing wrong. What really matters is that each day I'm up on last year's day-to-day comparison by about 50% each day. (That's not comparing Dec 16, 2011 to Dec 16, 2010, but the third Friday in Dec 2011 to the third Friday in Dec 2010... otherwise I'd be comparing some weekdays to weekends.)

Dont know what sales are for me, this is what I get when opening ss:
"Internal Server Error

Please contact the server administrator, [email protected] and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

Hope theyll fix it soon.

It's down for me too and I still get loads and loads of files not going through to them from Filezilla even though Filezilla says they all went through ok.
-
Down for me too. It showed a pile of footage dls before it went down. Not sure if those are real or just part of the glitch.
-
I was able to get into my daily D/L page and it's down now too

Looks like the whole site is down. The buyers area isn't even loading at all.
-
Yep. First I wasn't able to submit files, but the forum was still working. Now the whole site is down. Mayday, mayday USS Shutterstock is going down.
-
Yep, it's down here. I had a heck of a time logging in this morning too. :-\

Apache/1.3.41 Server at submit.shutterstock.com Port 81
First time was funny, second time in two days is getting sad. Main revenue comes from SS :(

Got one 500 Error.. one page reload and was OK again. Network issues for No-US users.. probably.

;) Don't you just love their message, I am certain it must have been something you did to cause the error.
More of us are losing confidence every day because of SS's decisions to not be upfront and honest with us by admitting what the real issues are, as well as their choice to not to fix the underlying problems that have been building up and occurring over a long period of time. It is also likely they are screwing with the search engines to bring in more profit.
Wonder how long they plan on running Apache 1.3

Back again....
Phew!

Yeah, I could have lost as much as a buck ;D

I'm more positive, I am hoping that the servers are down because there is too many CUSTOMERS buying...! :) They need to bring out more servers to serve them all... ... :)

Down again...
-
still down
-
Perhaps that's the reason for IPO. To fix the site...
-
Still down. It's becoming like iStock ...
-
Still down. It's becoming like iStock ...
No, if it were like iStock it would be down in the middle of a weekday in one of the busiest weeks of the year, not on a Sleepy Saturday (or Sunday, for you). ;D

True. But a 503 page or something would be nice rather than a page error.
-
Seems to be back up anyway.
Maybe they don't feel they need to make a special page, since it almost never does go down. :)

Yep, back now.
-
That's impressive that they can fix downages so quickly late on a Saturday.
-
The site is running fine, couldnt be better.
-
Though it was just me having problems! All good now, but explains the TERRIBLE day of sales perhaps.
Hope it stays stable and selling.
-
Also for me, very strange but May is down on SS ... it's my 5th agency after IS, FT, 123 and ... Photodune.
:'(
-

It's a bit easier if everybody doesn't get off on Friday and comes back on Monday.

My point exactly. They seem to realise, as others do not, that they are a 24/7 operation.

That's the smartest thing you've said Wut. I hate the fact that certain agencies keep their shop open over weekends, but leave it virtually unattended. It's better that they close shop too if those in charge want a nice weekend and don't want to pay people to do weekend shifts.

Enthusiastic +1 to all of the above.

Well, tnx :s
-
They are all 24/7 operations - are there actually some of them that don't have 24/7 technical cover even on an on-call basis with automated monitoring?

There was a time when one in particular would experience problems which would not be dealt with over weekends: particularly noticeable during North American long weekends.
The same one where moderators point out, in reply to forum posts, that HQ won't be open yet, so there's no one to deal with the issue; even in the middle of the European working day. (I believe there is some sort of very basic tech cover, as was revealed a few years back after a severe outage. It seemed there was a very junior techie on duty who discovered the issue but was nervous about waking a senior colleague, so the problem was more prolonged than it need have been.)
The same one which announced on the forums they were all going on holiday over Christmas/New Year, almost inviting the fraud which happened over that period ... I wrote to CR suggesting that they should positively discriminate and employ some militant atheists or people from other religions who wouldn't mind working then. Seems pretty obvious.
-
Yes indeed. I'm surprised that certain 24/7 operations don't seem to have fully grasped 'shift work'.
-
And again... :s
And just when I'm having a great day over there...
-
Yea...me too
-
It's back up...Luckily it didn't happen during the rush hour
-
The contributor site is up but the selling site is down.

The contributor site is up but the selling site is down.
I didn't even know that was possible. Then I'd surely prefer that our site is down. It's not a biggie if you can't upload new stuff for a few hours, but you can loose a lot of sales in the same time period.
-
Yes, SS is down but IS is doing much better in the last 2-3 months.
50% more $ than SS with same port size on both sites.
-

As far as I know they are 2 completely different sites. I plugged them into the website 'down for everyone or just me' as my computer was playing up and I wasn't sure if it was just timing out and it said that the submitshutterstock.com was fine and shutterstock.com was down for everyone.
-

It's not even necessary to call it "shift work". Hire someone in Australia/Japan, someone in Europe/Sth Africa/UK, someone in USA/Canada/Brazil. you've got most time zones/hemispheres covered and it'll get you through week ends and those pesky religious/public holiday situations.
