"Shutterstock is also pleased to announce that Rodney Hobart, a photographer and designer/illustrator based in Neosho, Missouri, contributed the 4 Millionth photo - an eye-catching image of a historic drive-in theater on Route 66. It was his first time submitting a photo to Shutterstock."

Congrats Shutterstock!

Wow what are the chances of that, their 4m image and it happens to be an eyecatching iconic image of something historically American themed, and the contributor just happens to have started uploading. ::)

And there was me thinking it would be a photo of some mundane object on an off white background by somebody that has been with them for 3 years and only has 12 images in their portfolio.

One day I'd love to see a site come out with some honesty and say something like " We held back on the queue of uploaded photo's until we found this one which we have chosen to be our xxx millionth image"

I'd have much more respect for them then.

All said and done it's a good image and well done to the guy that took it, if by chance (sheer miracle) it was the 4 millionth file uploaded it's a worthy winner anyway.

It would be better if they was saying "this is the 4m images contest winner" or something like. I hardly dislike when companies take me for a xx. And there's too much of this kind ::) But hey, do it's an happy event yes or no! ;D

"To be approved on my first go is an honor, but even more surprising was how fast my portfolio was reviewed," said Hobart. "I uploaded my photographs and was approved by the next day, while most microstock sites take five or more days to approve. I am a newbie to the site, but so far it has surpassed my expectations and I look forward to building up my portfolio in the next few months."

I have never seen such a load of BS in all my life.

When you're exclusive to IStockphoto, that kind of service is unbelievable

The 4,000,000th was my image. Not sure what you think is BS but it is true.  Perhaps, they watched the cue for the right image...but I had no idea when I submitted it that there was even a slight chance I would have the 4,000,000th. I have been on Shutterstock for less than a week now and so far it has outperformed any 1 day I have had on any other sites.   Thanks for the Kudos, Rt.  Kind of a shame I finally "won" something in my life and it didn't include a new macbook pro or something ;). Thanks to Shutterstock for the publicity.

well congrats on the image and welcome here :)

Yeah, hitting a milestone like that, or being chosen for a milestone like that, it is too bad there wasn't a significant prize involved like on the dreamstime milestones. :(

You're welcome, I like the shot, like you say it's a shame you didn't receive anything tangible for it.

I also think it's a shame that they didn't include the image or a link to it in their press releases, I had a hard job finding it because the search engine doesn't update quickly enough, it's probably in the system now though.

As for the BS, I don't think the person concerned was directing that towards you, more towards the site.

Good luck on SS I'm sure you'll do well.

Well, maybe I was.  Was that your exact quote, spoken or written by you, or is that something SS 'helped' with?

Yeah they took that word for word. However, that was one of over a half dozen questions I answered so of course they picked the juiciest (cheeziest) answer to include in their press release.

I think it would have been nice for them to include the image or a link to it at least.  I think they are a little more woried about them tooting their own horn, becuase I haven't seen any substantial sales for that particular image.  They talked as though this would be a big deal for my portfolio, haven't seen that yet. I have seen overall good consistent sales for the few days I have been on there.

Here, since they didn't link to it, I will.

On a side note, what type of earnings do some of you guys make from SS? Want an idea of what the ptential is.

Right outside of Carthage, MO. Pretty cool place and well kept up. We go a few times in the summer to movies. Can't beat 2 new releases for $6

Yes, they should be plastering your image all over the place. Apart from the posting on this forum, I haven't seen or read anything about this.

You'll find an approximate answer to your question by examining the 'RPI Statistics' table on the right hand side of this site. RPI means Revenue Per Image.

P.S. Welcome aboard!

Congratulations on the 4m image! Real shame it doesn't come with a prize. At least it should get some front page exposure.

Out of curiosity - how is it selling?

BTW. my initial batch of 10 images was also approved in 1 day so that happens :)

Thanks!

So far, downloaded 6 times in 3 days. I have a total of 34 downloads from 10 images. I just got 2 dozen or so approved so hopefully I can boost it up.

What does everyone else average per day on SS for download quantities?
