How does SS sell video? Do they sell it as subscription only? How much does a videographer get per dl? Thanks.

I am averaging a round 18 dollars per download on ss. The subscriptions also give higher prices than I thought, 6 dollars or more, they don't sell them for 30 cents.

ETA: my last footage subscription sold for 21 dollars.

For my humble portfolio the sales volume is also higher than on the other sites, but on pond5 my average download is higher because of the 50%.

Cobalt, thanks so much!

How does SS compare to IS as an independent? Which site sells more? Which site sells at higher price?

Pond5 is the best site for me.  SS has caught up a bit.  Istock was OK a few years ago but then the stopped selling and I removed most of my clips when they cut commission to 15%.  The upload procedure was almost impossible for independents with istock as well.  Don't know if they have FPT yet but I've had enough of them anyway.

istock has stopped selling videos for me. I had the free video of the month in January, which gave me excellent exposure, but I didn't sell a single file. The same happened to the guy who had the free video for February.

Maybe if you are exclusive it is a good place to make money, but my rumour mill keeps telling me that pond5 and SS are the best sites for video.

There are also many other small sites, but I still have a tiny port. so I want to focus on just 2 or 3 sites until I have more experience. And pond5 and SS have proven themselves to be reliable.

The only thing I dislike are the visible download numbers on Pond5. I hate it when sites encourage people to copy my work.
