Just a minor rant or sadness. :-\
I've always wanted to join Shutterstock, but the passport requirement does not allowed me too.
Well, I live in the 3rd world country, so going out of the country is a luxury only for the few.
I hope SS accepts me, make me richer and process a passport (so that I could go out of the country).
;D

Don`t they accept other forms of governmental IDs? Have you contacted support regarding this issue?
-
looks like you are still exclusive at iStock, apart from that haven't iStock paid you enough to get a passport?

I have tried other IDs but they did not accept it. Will try to contact support.

SS is asking for a photo ID with your residential address, as far as I can recall. I applied with my drivers licence. And it worked. So it shouldn't be a problem for you, too - after you cancelled your Exclusive Status with IS.
-
I think if you live in the US or another major country then a driver license is ok. If you are from a 3rd world country, as the OP says, then you definitely need a passport.
I had to submit 3 different pieces of id, including my passport to get accepted at SS.
-
If you send a copy of all the ID (picture and adress) you have, and point at your other accounts at the other agencies and tell them that a passport is a luxury you cannot afford. They might listen to you.
They only want the passport because passports are internationally uniform and the easiest way to guarantee an ID.
-
Thanks for the replies.
I sent them an email a few minutes ago. I hope they would listen to me.
Yes, I did put a link to my iStock portfolio.

Used my South African ID without a problem.

If you have any sort of photo ID and a utility bill in your name with your address they would accept it. European PPs do not have an address so they declined my passport, no matter what I told them, they didnt accept my valid PP unless I provided them with a proof of address. Very disturbing that I can do everything with my PP except sell photos for 20 cents a pop. 8)

Let us know how it goes
-
But you're an IStock exclusive, am I missing something?

Maybe he wants to get accepted and upload the portfolio on SS without going online.... until the IS exclusivity terminates.

Well, I hope not to need to go on SS, then. All our utility bills are in my husband's name (different surname), my passport doesn't have an address (we write it on ourselves, so it doesn't usually count as proof of address) and my driving licence doesn't have a photo. (iS accepted my UK passport.)

They want proof of address, you can probably get that from your council. So your passport and a letter from the council should do it. imo

Ireland is not 3rd world (well, not regarded as such even if it's getting close) - they wouldn't accept a driving licence with address & photo and ended up having to submit passport ::)

Exclusive illustrator, nonexclusive photographer

Yes Iam iS exclusive. They now allow exclusive Illustrators to upload in other sites.

When did istockphoto start allowing exclusive illustrators to upload to other sites?

you can as RM or at SS entry test (of course they will be offline)

You can upload photos at SS since you are not exclusive for photos but if you upload illustrations you will need to cancel exclusivity for illustrations.

Over two years ago, when they introduced the RC system, they double-shafted those who had obliged their requests and branched into supplying different media by splitting the RCs between the media so that only each media's RCs counted towards a commission rise, not the total, as had previously been the case. Nice way to treat those who had done what they were asked to do and helped to grow different media.
Anyway, after a few weeks, they reluctantly conceded that as they were no longer lumping sales from the different media, they really needed to reciprocate by allowing exclusivity/independence between the different media as well.

I found the email with SS's reject after when I first applied 2007:
The ID you uploaded for the ShutterStock Submission program was rejected because:
Please upload a passport which is valid for international travel. We only accept international passports. We do not accept national identity cards.
You may re-upload your ID by going to http://submit.shutterstock.com (http://submit.shutterstock.com) and
logging in with the username and password you signed up with.
Regards,
ShutterStock Support
Then I applied again in 2009, they replied with same email above. I sent an SSS ID.

Let us know what they say when u get a reply to the email u sent them. With some luck and some common sense maybe policy has changed.

I'm sure I've read often that some huge percentage of Americans don't have passports. How do they manage?
-
A rejection email I got earlier this year included this:
We accept the following forms of identification:
- Passport valid for international travel (not a national passport)
- European Union National Identity Cards, EU Cards (front and back)
- US/Canada driver’s license
-
I still got rejected on my third try. They insist on passport, even I put a link to my portfolio.
