Yesterday I deleted this image at shutterstock
https://stock.adobe.com/de/stock-photo/id/269596670
Nothing exceptional, but today I sold it at Adobe, receiving 0.99 Euro instead of 0.10 USD.
Don't be your cheap competitor  ;)

Now, this is a fun game. We just sold this file on Pond5 and received $76-80. It's no longer available on Shutterstock. Don't be your cheap competitor.

And for anyone that thinks deleting their images is useless this is what most of the pictures on SS look like. Most of the database is just garbage they accepted to make it look big. If we can delete around 10 million of quality pictures it will really hurt SS in the long run. Buyers will stop getting subscription if they can't find anything usable.

Correct! but if nothing else to just accept and give in would be crazy because the next to cut us down would be Adobe and so on!

Hi Colleagues,

Please stay strong and don't let SS kill the whole industry. I would better leave SS completely rather than risk other microstock agencies.

Currently, our main problem is stubborn people who don't want to disable their profiles.
At list we should persuade them to stop uploading stuff.

I dislike the raised fist especially because clients and people out of microstock will see it. We are/were not emploees of Shuterstock. We are/were contracted partners. Know where you stand in order not to harm the cause you fight for.

Some new ideas I've been brainstorming and happy to share.

https://brutallyhonestmicrostock.com/2020/06/13/shutterstock-earnings-cut-hitting-them-where-it-hurts/

I like it, but could you please add a section about the most powerful weapon: stop uploading.

This is the easiest thing to do, even for those who really need the money right now. Instead, everyone can upload and focus and share links to the agencies that support us.

The upload volume has dropped to below one million, let us see what SS does when that number goes down to 500 000 or less...

It is also the thing many artists can keep up for a few weeks.

It is amazing they still totally refuse to talk to contributors, but withholding content is IMO the strongest to demonstrate to all agencies who controls the content.

Here is a better idea. Deactivate your 10.000+ images and 1000+ videos before offering advice to others.

Not only has he not disabled his port (and his blog post says he doesnt plan to, not even on June 15), hes actively uploading new images. His port has an editorial shot dated June 6, 2020.

With all due respect, you do realize you are shooting yourself in the foot by supporting Shutterstock.

Yes, I'm guilty of uploading 5 (five) editorials in June. Please give me a lenient sentence! I've stopped uploading btw...

For the record, nobody knows yet how bad the drop in earnings will be...what if it's just 5%-10%? That's why we need to share as much earnings income as possible using big data to make informed decisions. As mentioned on my blog post (please don't be angry anti-SS mob), my ODDs are coming in at higher than pre-June, although more data is needed. In a few months we'll have a great idea of just how far we've lost out.

The real damage will likely come in January though when everybody is back at Level I and that's when, if it's not too late and the stats show that the drop is substantial (20%+ on average), we should all work together to deactivate then so it shows a huge huge drop on the first of the month. The goal is 10 million images deactivated...we can even have a hashtag #SS10million or something like that.

0.33c dropping to 0.10c 0.12c or 0.14c is not 5% or even 10%. Why wait until January to figure out you are being exploited?

In your blog post you say youre not willing to shut off your port even for a week because you dont want to lose $100 after all your hard work. And theres an entire thread here of people reporting their huge drop in earnings. We dont need your six months of stats to see whats happening. Very few people are willing to lose tons of money over the next six months to take action in 2021. Im sure therell be a second wave of outrage then, but things are snowballing now and nows the time to strike, not in January when SS has had six months to pump up their library to twice the size with a huge flood of similars.

my income dropped about 50%, level3 for photos, would have probably been level 4 this month. 1500 photos.

I deactivated video straight away, so I have no data for now. set photos to off today.

eveyrwhere I read, income is severely down. the only exception I have seen where a few people with over 50 000 files.  for them, at least by what I read, it seems to be 5-15% down.

but a lot of people do stock part time. the quality of their work has not changed.

the prices to customers are unchanged as well.

like jo ann says...everything else - the dividend, plush office, luxury salaries is not affected. just us. This is not a struggling company.

so..I will not upload for a few weeks or even months. mot a big drama, there are enough other agencies.

i might switch on either photo or video at a later date, but for now I have joined the protest.

the january reset will hit everyone.

do you really want that?

eta: oh come on brasilnut - just one week? please reconsider.

The Shutterstock's audacity of devaluating our images while maintaining their decadent Empire Building headquarters is a poor business practice and simply abominable. For selling online image subscriptions you don't need to have showcase digs, this type of business could be operated from any warehouse in suburbs or another town in NY, or even from Siberia.

1. I agree fully with the deactivation of ports on June 15. Even if SS has 320 million images, deleting your A-class images or entire portfolios will have a measurable effect, since most of the remaining images are either similars or garbage. I haven't deactivated my port yet, but will do it on June 15. Watching the sales for the first ten days in June, not only the average selling prices went down, but also the number of downloads was reduced. Way down!

2. The other way to hit them is to spread the word to the buyers and shareholders. What SS is doing, is not only a poor long-term business decision, it is also highly unethical. Many investors are now looking at their investments from this type of angle, and switching to more ethical companies.  Most creative professionals who buy images and videos have a sense of fairness and once they realize what SS is doing, they will change their purchasing practices and switch to more responsible agencies.

3. Lastly, when you have such unethical company, even the employees will realize that their salaries are made on back of exploited contributors and their moral will go down. Next step for them is to wait how long before they will be shafted. No decent person would want to work for such a company.

I turned my images off last week, then I got a notice that I was going to get a payment, so I turned them back, worried that they would withhold the payment. After the pmt. was in my bank, I went back to turn them off, and I just kept getting a message that I turned them on and off too many times. one time? I tried for 4 days, and they never worked again. Meanwhile, I deleted all images except one. I left my account open, because some people were reporting that images that had been rejected were showing up in their port.  I want to monitor that.

the raised fist has a long history of opposition to oppression of all sorts, historically, against laissez-faire capitalism  - isn't that what this boycott is about?
