He posted in the SS forum, so I would guess that is the site that he is referring to.

ah.... thanks Geopappas.... regardless of my 'full member" status, I guess I'm still a newbie :D Maybe that should be spelled 'Fool" member in my case... LOL Apologies to litifeta!
I'm guessing litifeta is also saying that his total rejection is noise related? Surprisingly, I haven't had a noise rejection at SS in some time. I had 2 out of a 10 batch rejected today for "lighting".. but SS was right. I'm still having trouble with my "isolated on white" shots. This 'little box" photography, as my daughter calls it, is still all new to me, still learning.
I really don't have any problem with SS rejections unlike some other sites, SS, at least for me, has the problems nailed. I've been able to correct some and resubmit and have them accepted. But to litifeta's point, when I first started with them, I was running 50-70% rejection at SS for noise too.
Personally, I'm selling more on SS daily than all my other sites put together. I have a lot of respect for the reviewers at SS. In my case they seem to have an eye for what will sell, seeing as SS has sold upwards of 80% of the pix I have uploaded there.
Hang in there, litifeta. SS is a top player. In a short time you'll be seeing your acceptance rate go up. 8) -tom

Wow, today four of my submitted photos were rejected at SS because of "overuse of noise reduction software"... lol, I think my SS addiction is turning into a "Neat Image" addiction too...

Exact thing happened to me yesterday on my four submissions! I really didn't use much reduction (photos of ice covered river and fruit) but maybe they are taming their noise free policy down. I do tend to focus on noise reduction more at this site then some others because of their policy!

Somehow I allmost never have rejection because of noise anymore, my good old D60 ;), however, weired things are happening to me, probably coincidence. If I submit one image at a time, which I have a done a lot the last months, it allmost never gets rejected, when I upload more, most times I have a really high rejection rate.
Yesterday 10 out of 10 were rejected!
Today 1 out of 1 was accepted.
Maybe they have pity on me, when I have only time to upload one image..
I guess in future I will go one by one...

Yes, SS seems to have an eye for what will sell. I've noticed that 'out of the box' images sell very well on SS; by that I mean images that can just be bought and used; the complete package if you like.
Perhaps the customers at SS are web sites and newspapers etc who just want to buy a finished piece and use it 'as is'.
The opposite seems to apply at IS, whose customers appear to be the design community; a browse through the designers section shows how backgrounds and partial images are bought and used to 'make up' a finished brochure or pamphlet.
On SS the best sellers are 'packaged products', whereas the best sellers list at IS includes lots of backgrounds and vector shape designs.
Anyway, that is how it appears to me with my limited experience.....

That's an interesting observation ...

i noticed in my case, that they reject all, or accept all... no matter how many there are in the bunch. obviusly, if you upload 1 you just risk 1.

Yes, Sharply, I think one should try to identify what sells best at each agency; for instance I have a number of images of dollar bills I took recently because the dollar is falling in value; dollars being flushed down the toilet, dollars in the form of a toilet roll, dollars being cut with scissors etc, all intended to show diminishing value. The customers at SS are buying these shots in some volume every day, whereas none of the customers at IS seem interested. My 'dollars in the form of a toilet roll' has sold 50 copies at SS in the last four weeks, but not a single sale at IS.
This suggests that the customers at SS are newspapers and web sites, all of whom are probably running stories on the dollar's depreciation at the moment, and using my images to show the currency's worthless value.
The customers at IS aren't interested because that isn't their market.

Which probably boils down to the reviewer your get, or how they were feeling. Also if the first two images have really bad noise, i image the review is going to look pretty closly for noise in the next 8 images and it probably won't take much to get them rejected. If the first two images they see are SUPER great, they may skim the next 8 assuming they are similar.

Submissions are definitely a bit of a black art - I've learned to submit in deliberate order and doses to take advantage of the fact that reviewers are constantly under bombardment.
I'd like to think that by carefully ordering my submissions I'm elevating my acceptance ratio, but who knows - that may just be wishful thinking.
It sure would be nice to have a chat with an experienced reviewer, or to get a peek at a reviewing code manual.

This thread requires a post script.
Since taking all of your advice i now have about 75% success and 104 shots online. sometime soon i will try to load the other 3000 ... lol
Just a note however, they have knocked a lot back after using the noise software, so i dont use it anymore and have had much better luck.

Don't eschew noise reduction software because it was part of your rejection woes - instead, try to get better at using it. By using it regularly you will become quite adept with it, so that when a shot comes along that is excellent but too noisy, you will have the skill to make it sellable.
I use the Noise Ninja plug-in with Photoshop something like this:
- Duplicate the noisy layer (or entire image).
- Run Noise Ninja in "automatic profile" mode.
- Zoom to 100% and adjust the opacity of the noise-reduced layer so that sharpness is minimally impacted.
- Merge the original and noise-reduced layers together.
A key benefit with Noise Ninja is that it can work on individual layers. I often take advantage of this on landscape shots, where I can use full strength noise reduction on the sky and (typically) 50% noise reduction on the ground. Far away subjects require keen attention to keep them recognizable - 15% noise reduction is a usual setting.
I use Noise Ninja on every shot I make - even the ones at ISO 50 under studio lighting!
-
yesterday i got 5/5 rejection
saying they're not stock worthy.
and prior to that, i find that
rejection rate has been going up
in SS a lot...
-
yeah - same here about using noise ninja on a layer.
I make a duplicate of the background layer then run noise ninja on it. I then make a layer mask and paint in the areas where I want / don't want noise reduction.

i had to learn it the hard way, but now have no rejections for noise reason.
ninja noise is not easy to use... it could generate artifacts, so be careful. i use ninja the same way sharply_done does, and also use the blur tool on dark and out of focus areas (that way i get rid of noise and artifacts at the same time).
hope this help you, litifeta

Noise reduction is simple-
Image>mode>Lab color:
Channels-Channel a 5pxls gaussian blur
b 5 pxls gaussian blur
lightness noise>despeckle
image>mode>RGB color
Noise reduction software damages the quality of your image

hey thanks Griz. Will give that a burl.
