Understand this: 1,5$ video sale wasn' really a video sale, it was video streaming.

The Shutterstock third party video streaming site does not protect your master file.
Anyone can download your master file without paying for it!

Yeah, I know, thats doesn't change the fact, that he was paid for streaming. Now, if videos can bi stolen or not, that's different topic.

Shutterstock should do a better job of communicating the pricing and terms of these streaming licenses... and offer an opt out.

Yes, we need an 'opt out' but to me it does not matter if the file is streamed or not. The most important thing is the security of the site. Anyone can download your master file without paying for it. This may explain the sudden drop in Shutterstock sales the last couple of months.

At first we were farmed out in vectors/images now videos.  Some would take $.25 for a video...

Hi i receive this about the video selling for 1.50$

Over the past few years, video has become an increasingly powerful tool for online advertising. To meet this growing demand, we are offering footage clips to select online platforms for limited use at special rates.

While at times you may see that your earnings-per-clip is lower, these clips are for web or mobile application only. They can only be streamed; downloading and broadcast usage isn't permitted. This restriction has been designed to protect your earnings and give you an extra chance to make money.

What it actually means is

(i) companies will buy this INSTEAD of a normal price one (so less money) and
(ii) due to their buggy code ANYONE can download the full video by just getting the link from the source it gives.

These $1.50 sales are killing my earnings. I think I'm just going to upload my new videos to Pond5.

I hate those 1,50 sales.

There are only 8 million stock videos at the moment, why kill the market before it even has matured?

I have to admit though, that this is maybe SS answer to pond5ś membership program, where customers can buy files as subs ultracheap. Nobody knows how many downloads you get, because they pay out a fixed sum.

On Getty there is the premium access license where photos go for 2 cents and videos for 60 cents (contributor returns).

Maybe SS was forced to offer a competing license.

But I just hate it...

Just like they did when this started. difference was. we fought for everything. No one fights anymore . They just Post BS chatroom Crap.

I have more and more 1.50$ sales.

I can't say that number of sales is growing, there are just more 1.5$ ones.  >:(

Why? The discount is per customer, not applied to certain content.

Maybe, if all video contributors had written to SS when this thread was started on the 29th of April, it didn't need to come to the point were it affected you too.

Maybe, but i don't think they'd listen. I wrote to them complaining, and asking to opt me out of any crappy program. They said i am not in any kind of program, and that those are just regular clip pack sales. We changed like 4-5 emails, with me pushing, and them giving me just this SS crap all the time.
