I guess Shutterstock is on the same path as IStock ... getting a lot of $1.50 to $2.00 sales commision for my 1080 and 4K video content. Maybe is time to pull the plug on Shutterstock.

seems like when we find a money making area the companies soon reduce commissions or give our stuff away for basically free!  :-[

Yes. Previously, these people would have to pay full price for a 720 res file.  SS and other companies really only looked at this through the lens of the share holders.  They could attract more customers willing to pay far less than a 720 clip and perhaps affect top line sales more favorably that the base who would typically purchase 720 rez.  The loser is the supplier.  The loser will usually always be the supplier.

This new Admin are now employing old contributors to answer your question and complaints instead of like before an SS official would take care of it!  if you write and ask them to just check your account for some reason, they wont but up comes a trusted contributor telling you he is not allowed to go into your account but everything is OK!!

So if video sales and stills sales are going to the dogs, well guess why!...this place is getting more and more weird by the minute!

That's right, the latest is smaller files, for streaming at these low prices. IS is doing that and P5 is also adding the same. As usual, once one place gets an idea and if it shows profit, increased earnings for them, we'll see it soon at others. While the lower resolution cheap sales are supposed to be streaming only at SS for $1.50.

P5 "We recently ran a test with a portion of our video collection, offering low-resolution versions of clips in addition to HD and 4K files. The goal was to determine if this would attract new customers those creating content for the web or social media at lower budgets along with incremental revenue for our contributors. Most importantly, we wanted to confirm this wouldnt cannibalize sales of higher-priced HD content.
Were excited to share that the test was a success. The low-res versions attracted new buyers who were not previously purchasing with us, while sales of HD content in the test group actually outperformed the control population. "

The general claim is, these people wouldn't have paid for a higher resolution video, so we are getting something for a small, lowres file, instead of nothing. I don't know, I'm not sure. Just pointing out where these low commission sales are from, it's not HD.

To be frank!  who in their right frame of mind would ever envisage any micro-agency to sell video for big bucks??? its not their game! ...pics and videos off the peg is more like it!

If you want to cry with the royalty of videos, go to ISTOCK. There it is a place to be very angry.
There is still a market to sell and earn well with videos. Really some agencies are rushing and ruining everything.

Kinda old thread but current issue:

I WISH there was an opt out to the $1.50 downloads.  If most my Shutterstock downloads turn to $1.50... Pond5 exclusive becomes very attractive.

That said..

Can anyone provide a link to the sales portal that results in the $1.50 downloads.  I know they say web only, etc.,.  But I would like to see the actual customer interface.

Thanks
