Title: When do my sales increase?
Post by: avarel on April 19, 2018, 20:22
I upload my vector icon sets regularly for 6 months but only 41 times in total. When does the increase happen? What are your recommendations?

It really depends what you upload.  The trick is to figure out what the buyers want.  I've seen people with multiple downloads per file and small portfolios.  Then there's the wanna bees like me, trying to find the right niche.  I did hit a good market when I photographed the presidential candidates in 2016, but I'm looking for something new.

Try to develop icon sets that are unique, but still satisfy customer desires.  Pay attention to what sells, your work and others work.  Don't copy others, but learn from what they do and apply it to your own ideas.

I really think a bit of time spent in studying the market pays off in sales in the long run.

Keep in mind that thousands of icon sets are uploaded daily, so you're facing harsh competition. Your icons are not that special or distinctive either, so it's hard to stand out from the crowd.

My suggestion is, try to find another subject matter to upload.

Yeah, a lot of them seem quite detailed for icons that are usually going to be quite small in whatever medium they're used. The placement of the icons seems off in a lot of them as well... usually weighted toward the bottom of the circle... and there appears to be insufficient padding around the edges. Apart from, they're very good... but with thousands to choose from, a buyer only needs the tiniest reason not to buy something.
