Hello all,

Just want to apologise for the past 2 days. I have been on a 3 day detox program and was only allowed to have 6 litre (1.6 gal) of vegetable juice over 3 days, and it most likely affected my mood in the evenings. I managed to get through it and today I am eating solid food again.

Although I think some times people are too harsh on me, I feel the past two days I have been more of an ass. So I apologise for that and hope it can be forgiven.

I am also on a weight loss mission, and lost 8 kilos (18 lbs) so far. 41 kilos (90 lbs) to go.

Cheers

I did once a 1 month detox because of health problems and at the beginning I was really mad and angry all the time!

But after the first week I started feeling better and with much more energy!

 :)

Good luck with the mission Ron and kudos for offering up the explanation and apologies. I do hope you've planned out a Before and After series complete with shots showing the baggy clothing for your portfolio!

What about the other 363 days? Ha I couldn't pass that up, but just kidding.

I don't have any hard feelings toward you or Cathy for speaking out in frustration. I'd be a hypocrite if I held anything against you  :P No apology needed!

I even have a happy place in my book for JPSDK because although he doesn't filter his words, he often keeps me aware of valid issues!

I've certainly had my bad days/weeks and said things I regretted too.  No harm done.

Congrats on the 18lb. weight loss!  That's a big accomplishment!

We've been trying to lose weight here too.  Hubby and I aren't brave enough to try a fast or a cleanse, but are doing low carb.  Slower weight loss, but also less stressful...

good for you. I did a 6 week detox last year and lost 7kg (ha, i've managed to find that again since moving to the land of cheese and wine) and it was very tough. stay off the internet!  :)  fwiw, i usually get mouthy at night after I've had a few wines....... so I stay out of forums in those situations.

When Im in the supermarket and shop, its like I walk around in a maze, searching for beer, tobacco and shrimps, or whatever.
Then I remember I need milk, plain and simple milk, so I go there where the milk is, and it becomes complicated with colours and letters on packets, instead of milk in bottles. When I take a closer look in the milk and chease department , I see that there are all kinds of strange selfcontradictive priducts, like low fat butter (!) and youghurt and chease light.
Then on good days I notice all the fat people, on the prowl, they buy a lot of light stuff, always light and lots of it. The would definately choose milk, chease and butter with no fat in it.
Thats what the fat people chose.

Then I move on to get the shrimps, and I notice, that the thin people buy fat french cheese and beefsteaks, not to mention butter and olive oil. And red wine.

So the conclusion is that you get fat from eating light things and thin from eating expensive things. Maybe because you cannot afford to eat so much?
What im trying to say, is that there are a lot of myths in the food disturbance industry, and it becomes clear that what they really want, is to sell water and chemicals in any form added to everything.
It can be proven, if you take a look in the water compartment.
Lots and lots of bottles with all the same in them, wather and chemicals.
And pricy as well.

Wow, thanks for that. Been well known since 1991, and that's the first time I've heard about it. (No surprise there!)
Very interesting.

Along the same lines, we were at the grocery store a month or so back, and a man with what appeared to be a Swiss or German accent was having trouble choosing which milk to buy among the great multitude of choices.

My husband went to help him out and pointed out the various low fat options (skim, 1%, 2%) and he cut my husband off and said he only drank whole milk, because "eating low fat will make you fat".  Hubby pointed out the whole milk and he went on his way.

Our minds were blown.  We had NEVER heard that before, but looking at this man and his children, they were definitely more slender than we are.

Is that a commonly held opinion in Europe - that eating low fat makes you fat?

I wouldnt say that. There is a "light low fat" hype going on. There are all kinds of food disturbances, as I call them, going on.

The population is getting fatter while eating more and more light products. Thats a paradox.
The conclusion is evident, it is the light products that makes you fat.
And how can that be?

First... Humans do need fat in their food, important is the type of fat, and then I say its better to get your fat from fat fish and milk, than from french fries and the like.
Sugar is fuel, and if you dont eat more than you burn it has no impact.

Second.. The light products cheat your body (the connection between taste, digestion and metabolism) into thinking that you have had something sweet, and such have fuel in your blood, while you haven, and you have to eat more of something to get that fuel. But what, since the sweet things dont work? Then the body tries different things and would probably settle on the next step up from sugar, carbohydrates.

Third.. 40 years ago, when I was a kid, the children were fed full milk, because it was good for them with vitamins and all, and the pigs were fet skimmed milk so the could eat more grain and get fat and produce bacon. Butter and cream was expensive, and used sparcely. 70 years ago, so sparcely that many people had vitamin a deficiency. I have seen them, the old folks with scewed legs. There were no fat children back then.

When I was in Romania and photograph vampires  a couple of years ago, I saw the same skewed legs with people of 35-45 and I asked if they did not have fish or butter in their childhood. And no, during the Soviet times, there were no fat fish or butter.

OK, that was a sidestep into the qualities of fat.
My opinion is that you should eat what you like, as long as it is natural products, and not industrialized. Dont be afraid of fat or sugar, or anything. The body will tell you, when you have had enough. Fx there is no way I can eat a packet of butter or drink a glass of cream, but I can eat a slice of bread with butter and some whipped cream on a cake. It tastes nice, but will soon be too much.

Some low fat products have more sugar in them to make them taste better. Counting or managing calories is still the best way to get your weight under control.

I agree.

Plus, some of the sweeteners stimulates the appetite.

Also "eat untill you are not hungry anymore, then stop"

In France and Italy (I cannot tell about the whole Europe) the common opinion is that eating natural and traditional food is always good for health.
The abuse of anything is bad of course.

In some countries they eat better that in other because they have very deep tradition about food and gastronomy
For example, the italian cooking is based on the use of simple natural products (with the globalization it is changing unfortunately) and the % of overweight people is low.

In the usa most of the people eat very badly and the % of overweight is 74% [!!!] (I have never seen so many very fat people in my life than the one I have seen in usa)

http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2013/10/17/obesity-rate-levels-off/2895759/

Obesity is not an illness as somebody (who wants to sell us diets) would like we believe it.
Obesity is just due to bad habits leading to illness.
Go to some poor African or Asian countries where they have nothing to eat I am sure that you will not find a lot of people "ills of obesity"
