Title: Do you use those little icons under the avatar
Post by: leaf on May 05, 2008, 15:59
do you ever make use of those icons under the avatar?  I am considering taking them away and using the screen real estate for something perhaps more usefull... like number of posts, or some other info that lets people know if the poster is to be 'trusted'... ie a new member whose first and only post is to start a conspiracy theory about one of the stock sites, or perhaps have something to figure out how many images people have and show some sort of a poster level in that regards... so that you know if the poster who is claiming to be a stock pro actually has any images online... or perhaps some other info... or no info....

I tend to use the website & PM ones.  I would like to see those stay.  It's convenient - profile is useless if you can click their names & see profile. lol

As you can see on mine, there's 2 lines.  If you can get it down to ONE line and put either a registered date or # of posts, that'd be great!   :)

I don't usually use the icons - but I do often click to the member profile if I want to PM someone or see if they have a website.

Icons? I don't need no stinkin' icons.  ;D

Didn't vote because of the obvious, I don't use them myself. I think they are nice, also no vote.

something to figure out how many images people have
would be interesting, but I think if you should change things, the most value would come from "Member Since" and Number of Posts, so the drive by posters will stand out more.

If I want to PM or email someone, or find their website, I just click on their name and look at the member profile to see what's available.

It's your forum, do what you like best. That's my vote.

PM and profile, that's what I use. I wouldn't cry if you cut that though.

Adelaide

I voted 'no never -  take them away' because I never use them but don't want them taken away if other people find them useful.

I'd be happier if the website and profile links were down with the portfolio links... and the idea of having some more info bellow the avitar sounds good to me...

I find the Profile, Website, and Private Message icons particularly useful.

Clicking on the member's name takes you to his/her profile, where you can send an email, and PM - this makes the profile, email, and PM avatars redundant. Not that I've ever visited anyone's site, but the website avatar might be better placed amongst the agency avatars.

And yeah, I'd like to see some sort of background info about the poster - that would be a better use of the space. I'm tired of reading stuff like "wow, my sales are up 50% this month!" only to find that he/she has only sold a few hundred images across all sites.
