After a little more thought on the subject, and wanting to have the forum as open as possible, this is how it will work in the future.

Off topic threads are acceptable.  I like to start them too once in a while.  However there is a difference in off topic threads which are fun breaks from microstock, and off topic threads which are looking for an argument.

Off topic 'fun' threads should be put in General > Off topic
any thread that is controversial in nature will be put in Rant > Off topic

For those of you who do not care to waste your time with off topic controversy - which is probably most of you, please ignore that area of the forum.  You can set your ignore preferances here
http://www.microstockgroup.com/index.php?action=profile;sa=ignoreBoards
and you will never see those posts again.

Anything stock or photography related will not be put there so you can be sure you won't be missing anything.

HOWEVER, that said, the regular forum rules will apply.  That is to say, no insulting others, black humor or vulgar comments, and general social politeness is expected.

Nice move, and I hope it works.  Do we have a kind of agreement page before we register here?  So people can not claim not knowing what are the rules and that censorship may be applied on your discretion.  It seems obvious to me, but...

Adelaide

You can't say it in a better way!

Great move Leaf

well you do have to agree to a thing when you sign up but it is just the standard SMF forum agreement.  I figure people 'should' have common sense to start with and those who don't probably aren't going to read the agreement and if they do aren't going to bother adhering to it.  If people are grossly stepping over the line a personal message is sent to them outlining the rules.

Also I have made this topic sticky so perhaps more people will see it and know it is possible to ignore desired forum areas.

wonderful idea leaf ! christmas cheers !
but i think the most effective would be the lack of response to a thread.
if nobody's interested , it  sinks down the list until it disappears out of sight.
we can rant all we want, but if no one reads our thread, i think the message is clear . so next time, we won't submit anything like that.  :)

It's a relief that black humour is not allowed.

Are we allowed dark humour?  Like a nasty muddy purply brown, or a neat little charcoal?
