Thread ignore button

I know you're busy but lately I've noticed an increase in what I would describe as completely irrevelent threads being started by certain folks who seem to have nothing better to do than post what is IMO 'worthless dribble', I appreciate that there is the ignore button for their posts but that doesn't stop their threads from clogging up the home page when I pop in to visit, the result is that I usually can't be bothered to filter through to get to the useful threads - my request (if posssible) is to please implement a button whereby there is the ability for me (us) to completely ignore a thread and for it to disappear from the home page when I visit.

I appreciate you're not going to do this just for me, but I'm sure I'm not the only person who is drifting away from the site, so if anybody else feels the same way maybe add your opinion so Leaf can gauge opinion.

If it's a reasonable amount of work, I'd love a thread ignore button too. As an alternative, if it's easier to implement, how about suppressing threads started by someone who's on your ignore list?

Come on all, have you seriously become that lazy that you can't skip over a thread or a post?  Have you all become this intollerant, ignorant and basically up yourselves that not only do you want to ignore posts and individuals but now entire threads?  You are aware that you too will be ignored right?  Ignoring is the most idiotic feature in a forum because you end up with half-arsed conversations and people talking to themselves.  It causes more b.itch fights than it reduces them.  It will devalue the site and look stupid to new people who look in.  Have you seriously become that self-involved that you think this website/forum was built just for you only?  A forum exists so a group of people can get together and discuss their opinions on a matter.  You're never going to like everyone and everyone's opinion.  Can't you accept that and live with it?  If you're so bothered about it, the forum doesn't need changing, you do... you need thicker skin and the ability to not let things bother you so much. This isn't your living room, it's a forum that's open to the public.  Get over yourselves, it makes you look... I'm not even going to say the words... but grow up!  It's hard to believe you're all adults sometimes!

Another thing.. what you're asking is a lot of work for leaf and you should pay him to do it if you really want it.

we've disagreed a few times, but I think this is a good request and glad you posted it. I have no problem with disagreements as long as we're discussing things that are relevant. I don't think users should be free to start five or six nonsense threads every bloody day. it's ridiculous.

Actually I would prefer that inadequate forum behaviour was dealt by Leaf, as he is the one who can define borderlines, ultimately leading to a temporary or definitive ban. Maybe we should use the "report" button more often?

A thread ignore button would be very helpful as there are a bunch of threads that I'd like to flush. 

If it is a big project, I'd be happy to make a contribution to offset the cost.

I have to agree with Pseudonyms on this one. If people cant take the heat in forum discussions or whatever, they should stay away. No pain no game. Besides, lately almost every thread is a voice of frustration.

If we start this sissy business of filtering through threads, etc, soon we be down on the Lobo level of locking everything. One thing which is admireable with this forum is Free speech!

It takes a few seconds to skim the homepage, as it should for most native English speakers. As for ignoring people, I have a pretty strong character, there's no need for me to ignore anyone. I practice tolerating people and opinions which are so adversely different to mine in real life (I'm not always successful), that coming on a forum like this is a breeze. I always want to know not only what people think but why they think it and what experiences people have had for them to get to their conclusions. I don't even know how the ignore thing works, if u ignore someone, then I guess you can't see their posts, which could make reading a thread completely disjointed. A public forum with disjointed threads (and threads which are hidden, maybe) and opinions you only want to hear. Horses wear blinkers because if something suddenly appears in their field of vision, their first response is to flee. Humans have greater strength of mind than any animal. Most of us anyway.

I regularly ignore threads about other agencies that don't relate to me, I've also seen an amzing amount of whining and nonsense threads here. It's not like it is any thing new.

You can ignore anyone you don't like, it works like a charm.

You all cry that Lobo is too strict on istock, now you want even more than he does.

There may be a lot more exclusives coming here in the future, I think you need to get used to it.

We already have the word 'censorship' for when other people try to stop us seeing things.  But what when we want to stop ourselves seeing things? 

Maybe it's such a silly idea that no one ever bothered to invent a word for it.  But obviously there's a call for such a word - otherwise why would people drink, or take take sleeping pills, or avoid leaving their house?  The world is a deeply frightening and unsettling place, forums especially so

I use this forum by going to http://www.microstockgroup.com/index.php which shows the latest active threads from each of the subforums.  The more nonsense posted in any forum, the quicker the useful and interesting threads fall off that front page.  I tried tapatalk to view the forum, but I have to go into each subforum to see if there's anything new, so that's a waste of time.

Being able to keep more useful threads on the front page by not showing threads I don't care about would be useful.

Perhaps there should be a "psychic pre-ignore" button, so you don't have to read the threads you don't want to read in order to find out that you don't want to read them.

Otherwise you will have fallen into the trap of having to read threads in order to ignore them, which seems counter-productive.

I've been known not to bother opening a thread because the topic sounds uninteresting, it's so much more effective than having to check out a thread to find out that you didn't want to.

The threads I want to read the most are where Leaf says deleted some posts because the argument degenerated into trading personal insults ... :-)

I'm someone who's recently been put off from reading these forums, but I'm not in favour of bans or thread locking or other such moderator measures. You need to allow people to be morons to have freedom of discussion. What I would like to see is more sensible rules at signup, as for example not allowing a new member to pick the name of an entire country or nationality as their user name (or otherwise picking an inappropriate name).

You can probably tell I only have an issue with one poster on these forums, the rest of you are all right. My problem is that I tend to sign in only when I post, so I can't ignore the cretin.

I agree with that.  I prefer to use my own internal scanning equipment to decide what's worth reading.  It keeps my mind and eyes exercised

I tried ignoring someone once, but I found I kept clicking on the option to read their posts anyway - because something in me was really uncomfortable about prejudging in that way (but that's just me).  In the end I 'unignored' them, because it was just a waste of time for me.

Unless someone is clearly here purely to spam, flame, or troll, I can't see any reason to ignore anyone - and if they are here purely for those reasons, I'd trust Leaf to deal with it promptly, as he has in the past.

I use that too and the filling up is a true problem, and if I am a couple of days away it may fill all the list (50 threads, I think). But maybe it would be just a matter to add a page navigation for that list.
