Microbius started a thread suggesting there be a yearly stock awards for a number of categories.  I think it's a great idea and so do obviously a lot of others.

What should they be called?

... taking suggestions and I'll create a poll in this thread with the ideas once a few come in.

Here's a cut and paste from my original post with a few ideas and a bit of clarification:

Most improved site
Best new tools for contributors on a stock site --- e.g. the new keyword suggestion tool on SS
Best Microstock app/tool (third party) --- e.g. microstock analytics or third party uploaders
Top curators (for keeping the collection clean, how well they handle reported infringements)
Best content (for good reviews)
Best search algorithm (for relevant search results)
Contributors' choice award (the big one "best picture" equivalent)

That's a list of the different categories, not the name of the award

Oh sorry I got the wrong end of the stick!

I think "the stockies" is a good informal name, but the formal name needs to be something like the Annual Microstock Group Industry Awards IMHO. Especially if the agencies are going to take them seriously.

ETA or the Annual Microstock Group Contributor Awards?

''Annual Microstock Group Industry Awards'' sounds good.

I believe the agencies will take this seriously ... eventually. MSG is growing bit by bit every day....

The criteria to be able to vote in the categories: to be a member of MSG and to prove you are a non exclusive contributor ; ex. share a link to at least 2 agencies where you contribute ( a non visible  to the general public, only to MSG admins for inspection).

I thought the voting could be open to anyone. Agencies could try to send people here to vote for them, but as it will be anonymous it could easily backfire for "bad" agencies.

Also because there are so many contributors any attempt to rig the vote by sending staff to vote should be a drop in the ocean, although in this case how to avoid someone setting up many accounts to rig the vote?

One vote per IP address is one way to at least limit the number of spam votes.

Microstock Flames?  And then have an Emerald, Diamond, Gold Flame etc.  so that certain agencies feel the hint?

IMO the name can not just indicate Micro Stock Agency in general, as we are not buyers but contributors. Our awards might differ very much from those buyers might vote for and I therefore think that the name should indicate that these are contributor's awards. If you however open to anyone to vote, the whole nature of the awards will change.

Leaf, the IP address thing is so easy assailable with all the IP changer software and proxy software available. I can have a new IP every 5 seconds if I like.

Further the large sites' promotions to vote for them will hit so many more eyes than the smaller sites, their votes will overwhelm smaller, more deserving sites by far. This can not be a numbers thing, which it will be if you allow an all can vote policy.

IMO this should be done by MSG members only.

We could call ourselves the Stock Artist Collective/or Choice  (SAC Awards)  but I think if they originate from here, they have to be the Microstock Group Awards.

I also like the idea to issue awards for a few key categories and to have ranks and the year of the award (like the Real Estate Board issues - bronze, silver, gold, platinum) - must include the year!  That way they will have to update at the end of the year.

Maybe not so pretty, but here's some awards/seals from the web just for illustration.

Just my tuppence on this to take or leave as you wish :)

First word I thought of was 'Stockies' also... so glad to see that :)

For the longer version I really like 'Stock Artist Collective' the best - that's a great name!  But as you say, perhaps the name should be indicative of the fact that voters come purely from MSG.

I favour the ribboned medals at the top of Pixart's post.

not a fan of the ribbons. aren't we creatives? shouldn't they look modern, not so old-fashioned and cliched (and clip arty)? few awards like this are ribboned nowadays.

I thought SAC was good but now that you've mentioned the slang equivalent (used in australia too, but not by me) is it out?

Totally agree - I was the one who inserted them - that was just for example sake of having a rank and a year on the award.

And on the other subject, I was thinking it also had a K on the end - but this is what the dictionary says (pretty accurate description hahah)
SAC noun
a baglike structure in an animal, plant, or fungus, as one containing fluid.

Seeing that they are our agents (although many do not act that way), but are not the agents of the buyers, we can perhaps indicate that the awards are based on our evaluation of who are good agents (representatives) by simply calling the awards:

THE MICROSTOCK AGENCY OF THE YEAR AWARDS
(MSA AWARDS)

3 levels - Gold / Silver and Bronze (3 positions most recognizable internationally)
Points awarded on all the categories and tallied up to end up with only the top 3, else it gets to complicated and difficult to manage. It also increases the value to the Agencies if there are only 3.

How does that sound?

You think we can get the winners of the negative awards to perhaps place their "black list banners" on their front pages  ;D

Isn't no award a bad reward?  If they don't even make bronze?
