If your post gets enough hearts, you'll get a nice surprise.  What am I talking about?..... well, you'll just have to wait and find a great post to know what I mean.

Let me know your thoughts. Good idea, dumb idea?

"Great Post" Badge underneath your alias? Looks great. Nice idea and initiative. Thank you Leaf. Sheriff badge or deputy?  8)
Has to be Deputy unless you are Marshall Leaf?   ;)

I like the idea a lot, but not the visuals.

I think something simpler - different color shading behind the post perhaps - as the heavy box is a bit clunky and the big badge behind avatar and "dials" means there's too much going on in such a little space.

Any thoughts about the opposite for posts with lots of negatives? White background for a great post and black (with reversed type) for one people didn't like - white hat/black hat good/bad symbolism?

I'm not keen on the +1 and -1 or this.  I like making my own mind up about people's posts.  Perhaps you've been watching too much of pimp up my forum :)
If there was a way for those of us that don't want this to turn it off, we could all be happy.

agreed.. it does look a bit clunky.
Perhaps a different color background would be enough to draw attention to the post.  My first post in this thread is unfortunately a bad example as it is so short, everything gets packed together on the left side.  On a longer post it looks quite a bit better... but I should figure out something that works in both cases.

If a posts gets enough negatives (it is currently set at -10) it disappears altogether. .. or almost.  It gets minimized and you have to click it to view the post.

I really don't like that idea.  Sometimes people say something very unpopular but it turns out to be correct.  You do a good job of editing and deleting posts and we have the ignore button, isn't that enough?

You are free to choose yourself how you want the posts to be affected.  Greyed out, minimized or nothing.  You can do so on the bottom select box on this page.

I have yet to see a well thought out post that was simply against everyone else's view that got -10 votes, or even a lot of negatives.  Generally is is the ridiculous troll type posts that receive that many negatives.  If a post is controversial it will get lots of +'s and -'s and probably end up around 0

in the middle of the grey area where the post otherwise would be.

I like it. If you come into a thread late and want to skim a bit you can easily see the better posts.

I don't think the popular posts are necessarily the best.  Sometimes the ones that divide opinion are worth reading and they wont stand out.

I think selecting the "grey out" option will actually highlight them more. So you can actually play it either side you want.  ;)
