...I don't see any new sites that say, we're going to charge $5 a photo and pay the photographers $3.50 a download.
...
That would be zymmetrical
and they can charge a lot more than $5 a photo. They are more stringent in their reviews, so their collection is going to be quite different to the other sites. Mostphotos and cutcaster are also doing things differently to the other sites. I agree that there is no point in a new site replicating the other sites but some of the new sites have innovations that the established sites should look at. I want to be able to sell some of my images at higher prices. The big 6 sites should offer us the chance to do that.
I should add that Vivozoom seems to have a different idea also and has been very responsive to problems and photographers questions.
I know I was generalizing and using a broad brush to paint a bleak picture. Something new and innovative would be welcome. It's the "me too" sites that are hopeless wastes of money and our time.
As I have admitted, I keep hoping that SV will pull a rabbit out of a hat and do something exciting and different, right after they finally get the ftp working. Since ftp has taken a year and a half, or less, if they never intended to include it, I think that louoates has a better grasp of reality than I do.
