Team Offsite: We Eat, Sleep and Breathe SnapVillage

The SnapVillage Team recently ventured out of the office for a little bonding and brainstorming on Washington’s Pacific Coast. We took two full days to talk about where we’ve been and where we’re going in the rest of 2008 and beyond.

Brian, our content guy, thought a Polar Bear Swim would be a good “ice breaker” [...]

A little brainstorming??? They need to look out the window, and see if there's something to learn from the outside world.

Needed to look out the window did they? Was that before or after they pulled their heads out of their asses.

I've never come across such a bunch of time wasters in all my life and it's only got worse as far as I can see.

On a positive note, I hope they had a lovely time!

An off planet group. All they've got to do is ask what we and buyers want not go hide out at a resort.

Ahh give them a break guys, they have a target niche market they aim for and at least they aren't trying to make SV a carbon copy of all other new MS sites out there.

I personally don't mind their interface now that I'm more used to it. Clearly it was designed with making the process as simple as possible for the buyers without all the myriad of complicated options that we have on other sites, without making it silly like Lucky Oliver did.

Also as far as their upload process I also don't mind, would be good to make it say up to 10 images at a time and for it not to time out but otherwise with their useful set groupings I find uploading there a whole lot easier then iStock.

Also my sales are picking up there and I can see them pushing out StockXpert out of my personal big6, over the new few months or so....

Also no I don't work or ever intend to work for them, just an impartial view :) I prefer to reserve my wrath for sites like Albumo and LO that promised and never delivered...

I can't see SV ever pushing out StockXpert for me but at least they are bringing in some buyers.  I can get a payout every month and I like having the option to price images higher.  The upload doesn't bother me at all.

I have felt all along that they have a chance of making an impact because they are owned by Corbis.  That is the only reason I have given them a try.

I pulled out about a week ago.  The upload system and my computer didn't like each other.  Not to mention it took almost 2 weeks to get 5 images reviewed.  Between the upload interface, slow sales and review time I'm done with SV for now.  I may go back in 6 months or so as things improve I hope.

Brian, our content guy...

Well that's a bad omen for a start, for Christs sake lets hope they don't put him in charge of marketing!

Alternate idea for a photo caption from the SV offsite:

"Shown here during the recent team offsite event, the only people in the world making any money from SnapVillage."

Alternate caption:

"D'you think if we keep staring at these laptops we'll look like we know what we're doing or do you think Corbis have cottoned on to us yet?"

"Anyone got an idea what FTP is, those * photographers keep asking for it, can't they just twist a dial on their fancy cameras and make it FTP?"

So, it is a bit chilly here, shall we have our next free holiday in Bali or Hawaii?  I am sure we could come up with even more crackpot brainstorming ideas in a warmer climate.
