Do you think the name is going to stick or is there any chance of a change?
Needless to say, a lot of photographers are not crazy on it.
However, it's good to see the that SV's database of images is really increasing.

Who knows, when it comes out of Beta we could see some action!!

I wait till they have FTP. I can't imagine that almost 160K images were already uploaded by hand. It's beyond my understanding how a garage operation like Geckostock can come up with FTP in a couple of weeks and SV can't.

I don't know anything about business but I guess you have to take a volatile market like microstock with shock and awe, not with a series of press releases how good it all will be... 6 months from now. They missed their take off slot and many mice got the first cheese already.

They also accept CDs.

I am guessing anyone with a portfolio over 100 or so used that option. I did.

I'm guessing that FTP might trigger more images coming in than they can handle. I uploaded (5 at a time) around 200 images 10 days ago and beginning today got approval on about half of those uploaded so far with % approved of about 95%. I had forgotten to include model releases on most of those declined. We'll see how the rest fare. As for now it seems like their queue is running about 10 days.
Despite some idiotic goings-on there I hope the traffic and sales live up to its potential. Their marketing is supposed to start this month. I'm interested in seeing if they will be slugging it out with the majors with ads in the main magazines of users: Layers, Photoshop, etc. Worst case would be some goofy "new" marketing scheme ala Lucky Oliver.

Uploading at SV is actually very smooth when it works, and it's been very stable lately. I'm over 900 images now, all uploaded "by hand".

I think they have called it Snap Village to put off their Corbis customers from using it. Contributors don't like the name so perhaps buyers from Corbis will be put off by it? This might be sensible for them, because Corbis sells images for lots more money. By using this name, it illustrates the difference between the two sites.

It is either that or they are all barking mad and I hope that isn't the case

Getty bought istock and I think some of the Getty customers probably now buy some images from istock. That might be part of the reason for the shares falling and it will be interesting to see how the new owners can prevent istock taking away business from Getty.

BTW, a surprise today logging in after some weeks. I had a sale, got US$1.50.

Hello to all,
I'm new here, I've uploaded about 600 photos in the last 3 months, but it seems that the views and sales are very poor, who do you think about this site?

I think their upload is a simple, all you need to do is attach the files, press upload, confirm twice.

It isn't a big deal. And the CD or DVD option is there also.

I have had a couple of sales, not spectacular, but more than CS , FP and LO combined.

I think they have about 250,000 images now, judging by the file id numbers.

One image they sold hadn't sold anywhere else and one wasn't accepted anywhere else.

I like the low payout and high acceptance rate.

I wish SV staid away from my keywords. I have 3 shots there and one is a lone palm tree on a tropical beach. For more than 6 months, it has only 4 views (mine). I did a search for 'palm tree', didn't work. Then 'palm tree beach tropical' and my shot wasn't there either.

So I had a good look at the keywords they put in, and there was 'tropical tree beach palm_tree' (where _ is a whitespace). No wonder nobody found it, since nobody is looking for palm_whitespace_tree. Don't even know how you have to put a whitespace in a search, and anyways, customers won't do that.

Whatever relevant keywords you put in your shot, they just ruin it. Can't they stay away from our keywords that are tested on DT,SS,wherever? Must take a lot of resources too.

Update. That was last week. Today it works, so they must have been playing with the search engine. And yes, the view count went from 4 to 9.

I used to jump through the roof too when I had a sale at LO. Seems we get more thrills from 2$ on some sites than of 12.5Euro on others.

Just logged in to my MostPhotos too and I had a second sale. Account balance 25Euro now, that's 38$. MP has FTP, no categories and you even don't have to attach MRFs. It's all a question of work input to upload vs yield.
