Some of the designers and directors here at the studio I work at got some SnapVillage mailers today. It's to promote their t-shirt contest, and also just promote the site in general, prices, subscriptions, etc. It's a square-shaped orange 4-panel fold-out.

Nice piece, and good to see some promo going on. Hopefully this gets more buyers signed up.

I hate to say I've got good feelings about Snapvillage because if I do they'll probably pull the plug next week and I'll look stupid, however -  I've got good feelings about SnapVillage (what . I've looked stupid before) but I sure do wish they'd hurry up and implement FTP.

I hate to say I've got bad feelings about SnapVillage becaue if I do they'll probably take off like crazy next week and I'll look stupid, however...   ;D

I thought the ad they ran looked really dorky - and not in a good way. They've got the money to hire someone to make this look wonderful, but I think they're locked into the idea this is the low rent district.

What was the reaction by those in your studios who saw the flyer?

But it got you thinking about them, and got you talking to others about them, so you might argue the advert has achieved it's objective.

i think the fact that it is owned by microsoft gives a lot of credibility.  they should have NO problem getting backing support and advertising shouldn't really cost them much either, at least no in comparison to what the other sites are up against.

Microsoft could put a link in for example word, internet explorer, or the windows interface that says 'find images for this... document / blog / background' and then send them to snapvillage.  They could have this on 90% of the computers in the world.  If another site wanted to get that done, ... well that would be impossibly expensive.

Leaf, just a little correction. Corbis and SV are owned by Bill Gates personally. There is no Microsoft in it.
He owns 100% and I think that he don't wont any involvement of Microsoft.
As I see it it is good. And what if Microsoft own such company we could get such mail:
"General failure, All your earnigs will be reset and you have to pay 100$ for start uploading again."
and in EULA
" All images witch you upload on this stock site is copyrighted by Microsoft and can be used by Microosoft for own purpose"
 ;)

Ok.. thanks for the correction.  But, I do remember snap village having a link on the microsoft page.  I guess perhaps he wouldn't integrate them as much as I would like :) but the marketing potential must still be in his back pocket.

I think the fact that Microsoft has done deals with iStock and StockXpert for images and clipart tells you that Snap Village isn't going to get anything special from Microsoft by being owned by Bill G.
