I am looking for THE BEST hdr software which means quality, reality etc. The most expensive program I have found costs 119$, Photomatix of course, but does it mean it is the best ? I would be able to pay these 119 bucks if I were sure that it is really THE BEST (I'll keep repeating myself ;) ). One time investment, however high, might work for a long time.
What do you think ?

Thanks for the link:
I had the Dynamic HDR program until losing it during a transition to new computer. I liked it but, as this reviewer said, it is for making more "stylized" images. I am considering the Photomatix package and renewing my venture into HDR ... Southwest Landscapes in harsh mid-day light make excellent subjects. And, waiting for the perfect light isn't always possible on a vacation schedule. :P
PS: the two FREE packages sounded pretty good too ... or maybe not? ;D

Photomatix is what I bought. I don't know what else there is and how it would compare. I'm sure if you are really keen you'd find other software does some things better than others.

I've been using Dynamic HDR for almost 3 years now and quite like it; good value for the money. My top seller at Istock was made using this program. I like the adjustments; both manual and automatic and the ability to make a natural looking image that still gets accepted by Microstock agencies.

Thanks for the link. Noteworthy is that you'll get 15% off Photomatix if you order by Captain Kimo's site.

Captain Kimo's list was updated recently, nowadays this HDR software takes the first place - https://aurorahdr.com (https://aurorahdr.com).

Personally I like a lot the HDRs produced by Lightroom because they don't look like HDRs.
I will give a try to Aurora HDR 2017

I have always used Photomatix and I really like it.
Compared to the HDR capabilities of Photoshop it is way more flexible and it allows for very subtle HDR up to any sort of grungy and over the top stuff if you prefer.
It also has a batch process capability that I find very useful

I have stopped to use Photomatix many years ago (6 - 10 ? I don't remember).
At this time I really did not like the result.
How it is today? Did it change a lot, or the results are still similar to those produced by the "antiques" versions?

I only started a couple of years ago, so I don't know the older versions.
As I said I like it because you can customise a lot the results, from something very subtle and real life looking, to over the top.
Basically you can get anything you like out of it Much more flexible than Photoshop
