Title: iStock/Getty no longer accepting submissions from Stocksubmitter
Post by: dbvirago on July 17, 2018, 14:58
It will come as a shock that iStock has stopped us from using the easiest tool to submit to them.

Per email....

Please use ESP, our mobile app, or one of our approved third‑party tools for future submissions

Keywording quality is essential to make it easy for customers to find and license
your imagery.

After careful review, we’ve concluded that the overall quality and accuracy of keywords we receive with imagery submitted using StockSubmitter does not meet the high standards we require.

Due to this, we are no longer supporting imagery submitted using StockSubmitter, effective end of day, July 20, 2018.

We value your content and hope that you will instead submit directly to us through our ESP upload tool or one of the third‑party direct upload tools that are available: DeepMeta or QHero.

We believe that by submitting directly to us, your keyword quality will improve, and it will be easier to find and license your imagery. This benefits our customers and  increases the potential of your content being licensed.

We have also made significant improvements to the speed and ease of keywording in ESP, both on the desktop and in our mobile app, which we encourage you to take a fresh look at.

Best wishes,

The Getty Images | iStock team

My first reaction was that I would stop uploading to iStock. Images seem to get into Getty from all sorts of agency agreements anyway!

I wonder if iStock will see a big reduction in uploaded images because of this. Personally, I don't want to upload images to each site individually...

Hmmm, so it's all StockSubmitter's fault that "Blue Whale" (my go-to keywording-quality search) sorted by newest is totally off the scale for inexplicability?! I can hardly imagine that to be the case! (a load of digitally designed interiors and a big set of a sick woman in bed. Some pics of pink petunias, (though I don't see 'blue whale' in the keywords, but sometimes keywords don't show on the page (don't ask, I don't know why)), many humpback whales ...

I can't imagine (admittedly without having used them) that their official tools will make that sort of egrecious keywording any better. And it can't be that people are adding "blue whale" after acceptance, as that can't be done nowadays.

I was only submitting to IStock due to the convenience that it was possible through Stocksubmitter. This makes it an easy choice to drop them from the list.

I have used QHERO in the past. Its free, web and simple. It sucks because its an extra step in the workflow, though.

We were working with them for a long while in regards to improve the keywords quality in the submissions coming through StockSubmitter to ESP.
We were open for a dialog and were implementing their every single requirement (you may have noticed those changes in the program).
Suddenly a month ago or so they had stopped communication with us on the matter. I guessed it's because they were satisfied with the keywords they're getting but... bah! out of the blue comes this decision to stop accepting submissions through StockSubmitter.
What can I say... that's a weird decision and it's completely illogical to cut the most convenient way to submit to them instead of keeping to work with us together to find a way to make it better for everyone...

Yup, it's the Getty Way or the Highway.

Quite obvious that they want people to use their atrocious web-interface or incoherent deepmeta client.
Today is my last upload via stocksubmitter, big corporations can't do wise things, bye-bye istock.

I noticed Stock Submitter became free for SS and BS a few months ago. It may be seen by iStock as an advantage for its competitors: low budget contributors (like me) will probably submit more images to SS/BS (no Stock Sumitter monthly limitation) than to IS (Stock Submitter limited to 35 images per month).

This might explain why iStock don’t like Stock Submitter anymore.

Time to stop submiting to iStock >:(

That moment was years ago.

Their keywording system is so ridiculous that they cannot blame StockSubmitter for the bad keywording quality. People who put some effort into it, will do the same thing when uploading via StockSubmitter and those who are too lazy won't be uploading quality keywords with DeepMeta or QHero.

Such arrogance from Getty/iStock.

Wait, this is great news. iStock mentions high standards for keywording, it means they finally stopped with their efficiency-arguable and  time consuming "keyword disambiguation", I guess it means as well all the keywords will be taken in account on a file, technically implying there are no more "invisible keywords"...

oh... wait...

That is just sad  >:(

Soon we will receive another poll about how to improve for contributors.... while they constantly do everything to make it worse for us

You guys have been doing really well in this. Guess getty does not like people who don't give it a convinient excuse to pull out

In the meantime, Istock collection size and scope is diminishing every day against their competitors.

The comparison in the video department would be even much worse.

"you reap what you sow" never more appropiate ..........

In any case it still surprises me that non exclusives supply to an agency that gives a 15% (photo) 20%(video) back to contributors when there are much better alternatives. Definitely many creative people are not the smartest and some agencies just take advantage of it......

Tried it today, stocksubmitter will not even upload to istock now. It lets me choose the ESP keywords though, so i might be doing something wrong

It is the end : Stocksubmitter now reject any upload to  iStock.

Stocksubmiter display a message with some explanation on why they had to stop when you try to upload files to iStock.

Its cash that counts....while it is irksome that they grab so much 15% of £1,000 is still better than 50% of £100. Its a business/ethics decision nothing to do with being "smart".

Well guess the big bad Getty execs won. So do we start posting them mails and tweets now? It definitely makes my workflow a lot more complicated. Lets hope getty reconsiders and maybe even adds the qhero AI keywording to stock submitter

If only it was 1,000...Right now iStock performs so bad it's no better than other low-tier agencies. Which makes the decision not to waste time on them so much easier.

Started getting this issue again asking for the new api key. Using the old one just gives an error "Parse error, unable to find authentication form" . How do I solve this?

This is the new key, deactivate and add this and re-verify and it will work.....

For some reason I'm now not able to get the ESP keywords on iStock again. Has the key changed again? What is the way to ensure I keep getting the new keys?

Please check out this workaround:
https://www.facebook.com/Stock.Submitter.eng (https://www.facebook.com/Stock.Submitter.eng)

"For a few months it was impossible to submit content to #iStock due to the latest changes in attempt to protect themselves from their own contributors. However, we were able to find a workaround. To submit your content to this agency, please open the Manage Agencies section, find iStock ESP and download the browser extension from there.
We didn't test the extension in the browsers other than Chrome, but it may work as well.
Unfortunately, there is no solution for StockSubmitter yet.
Please let us know of any issues you encounter while using the extension."
