Hi all,

I need help in getting back a windows prompt in lightroom, i tried to edit the raw files from lightroom to photoshop, right click and choose 'edit in photoshop'. It is usually followed up with a window prompt that give me 3 choices, like edit originals, edit a copy, or edit a copy with lightroom adjustment.

I don't know what i had done and the prompt is no there anymore..it is usually directly open in photoshop (with lightroom adjustment)

I had reset the 'warning prompt' under the edit->preferences, but it is still not there.

anyone can help?

thanks

I think if you haven't made any changes in Lightroom, it won't prompt you.

Did you try these options?

When in Develop mode:

Develop Set default settings
Or:
Settings Reset all settings

Is this your problem and perhaps also the solution?

I have never seen the prompt when editing RAW files. The only time I see that is if I mistakenly right click on a PSD file in Lightroom. Regardless of whether I've modified develop settings in Lightroom I don't see the prompt - because the RAW file is never modified (develop settings are saved in the Lighroom database)

Is it possible that you have upgraded Camera RAW and that something has changed in how it handles PEF files? (Had you been converting to DNG before to get around an issue supporting PEF?) That would probably change the prompt appearing or not.

After importing the files in LR, you can right click on a raw image (or on the thumbnail) and choose:"Edit in>Edit in Adobe Photoshop" from the list that appeared.
Then you get a pop-up screen with a few choices. The first is: Edit a copy with LR adjustments. When handling a raw-file the others options are grey. The image will be opened in Photoshop then as a PSD or a Tiff with the changes made in LR.
When I understood well what you meant and this is indeed what you are missing, then I think the solution is in the link from Adobe's website above.

jsnover is right, i think raw file won't give you that options. I guess i remember it wrongly as it happened to the tiff file i had edited.

For I am working all the time this way, I am sure it is possible.

My workflow: Copy the raw-files from the card to my harddisk (into a map with date and subject of course). I make no changes to the files. The files are visible as the original raw-files copied from my card. Open LR. Choose: Import photos from disk in the Library. No changes are made during import. The raw-files are visible in LR as the original files from my card, cq harddisk. Make the changes I want in Develop. Right click on the image and choose: Edit in...Edit in Adobe Photoshop. In the pop-up window that appears I choose: Edit a copy with Lightroom adjustments. Then the raw-file will be opened in Photoshop as a tiff or a psd file and as 8 or 16 bits (Belongs to what your settings in LR are). The changes I made in LR are visible in PS. After making changes in Photoshop: Save the file. It will be saved in LR with the changes I made in PS. In LR I have a tiff or PSD now next to my original now, with the changes made in PS visible. From this point I have different options when I need the image: save it also in PS as a JPG with the size and name I want, export it from LR as a JPG in the size and name I want, print it from LR etc...
It is also possible to repeat this with other settings. I can choose the psd/tiff-file as well as the original raw-file to open in PS. I get two tiffs or psd's next to my raw-file in LR. When opening the psd/tiff again in PS I see all the layers saved too, so I can make changes later.

My apologies when I totally misunderstood what your problem is, but this is what I thought that your problem was when I was reading your first post.
But when this is what you meant and it is still not possible to work this way, then perhaps the solution is in the link on the Adobe-site I sended you before.

Reading your answer in the topic: 'photoshop before Lightroom', it seems that I misunderstood what your problem is.
English is not my native language (and it is not an easy language too) and for I now don't know what you exactly meant with you question, perhaps this is helpful to you:

You can download a free pdf-file of her book here with a lot of info about LR.
Maybe you can find the answer to your question in that book.
