Finally: http://petapixel.com/2015/04/21/adobe-unveils-lightroom-cc-speed-boost-raw-hdr-and-pano-face-finding-and-more/

I had to restart my Mac for Creative Cloud to show the update (seems to be a common issue).

Looking good so far.

This says it's available as Lightroom 6 as well

I'll give it a month or so for other people to have fun with the bugs before I upgrade. LR 5 is working well and I have no interest in being an early adopter in this case :)

as a product it was already mature with version 4.xx

they should allow for a lot more customization of the GUI but Adobe seems to be pretty strict about it, personally i like Capture Pro a lot more than LR for many things.

i don't think they've any killer feature to add in the future, speed won't improve and you will still need many 3rd party addons to make even basic things work for instance the export with tree-folders which should be a given nowadays ...

RawTherapee was also a promising app but for whatever reason it's still full of problems and their dev team were talking about a complete rewrite so good luck with it .. it's a shame as now we're left with just LR and Capture Pro.

I made the update and i already used Panorama option.
For me is a very good improvement, because i can merge 10 NEFs and after i am able to work on a DNG for all other settings on only one file.

I had an old Adobe ID only used to register my old standalone LR.
I tried to subscribe to the new LR+PS package advertised for $9.99 + tax/month.
To my surprise, I was asked to pay $12.09 + tax/month!
So I had to create a new Adobe ID to get the advertised price.

This is not a good attitude. It clearly shows intention to raise the prices after one year

OK I know I'm out of step with everybody else but I don't use Adobe products. I used to think they were too expensive (and yes I do have short arms and deep pockets :)), and then they turned to subs only, which is a further turn off for me. The subs are almost inevitably going to creep up once everyone is used to paying them.

Lightroom is definitely worth the money. Buy it now before Adobe restrict it to subscription only.

I have been with Lightroom since the original beta and have bought every version since. But the question I am asking myself is whether I want to stay with a product which seems likely to end up being subscription only.

Since I switched to Fuji-X I often end up using Iridium Developer for RAW processing because it often does a better job on the fine detail than Adobe.

I upgraded to 6 but am already thinking seriously about other software, because I'm pretty sure this will be the last standalone version.   When they make that move they're going to lose a lot of users.

The same thing goes for Canon DPP.
Since Canon knows accurately the transfer function for each of their lens - sensor combinations, they know how much light smears the the adjacent pixels, reducing the sharpness.
By applying the reverse transfer function, they can recover the details through a deconvolution algorithm. The sharpness is increased visibly. And this is true sharpness, not the fake sharpness we get by accentuating the edges.
Adobe will not able to implement this deconvolution algorithm unless they sign a deal with the manufacturers.

Anyway, I'm looking forward for the time when the cameras will be powerful enough to run this intensive calculation on the fly.

I have been using LR since the first beta and switched to the subscription with LR5 because Adobe has started adding features to CC that do not get added to the Stand Alone but here is the thing, for 10 bucks a month, I get LR AND PS and all the latests upgrades. For me, I would rather spend the $10 each month than to keep buying upgrades every year of software that may or may not have the same features in it. Plus, I spend more than that in coffee a week. For me it works.

That being said, I upgraded yesterday and they hit it out of the park with the upgrades on this version.

I started with Photoshop in 1990. Today I can do everything that I used to use Photoshop for in Pixelmator. It's fully 16 bit, costs a fraction of the price and installs neatly via the Mac app store.
