I think I have asked this before, but anyway I would like an updated opinion.
I'm loking for a pligin to have a dual-language blog. Not a Google translate auto-stuff. I would enter the title/text in the two languages. Menus, categories, etc would be translated by the tool. I don't want to have two blogs linked (I think I have seen one solution like this), ideally I want to edit both languages in the same screen.
Searching at Wordpress.org, I found several tools, the ones that seemed to me more what I want are ZdMultilang, XLanguage amd qTranslate. It seems some of them are discontinued, I also see reports of problems (like happens with any tool, but...).
At ZdMultilang site, it is mentioned that with WP 3.0 on there is no need for such a tool anymore. This may be the reason these plugins don't get an update, but I couldn't find anything at Wordpress.org other than it saying we need a plugin for multilangual site...
Any experiences??

Hi madelaide (and hi to the rest of you as this is my first posting),
I am in the same painful situation. I want my blog to be bilingual, but everything seems to be more of a compromise. Plus my theme (Pro photo) is not translatable. I have tested qtranslate and did not like it. I f you ever want to remove that thing you will end up removing all that language tags by hand.
I have chosen WPML and have paid for the blog version. The maintaining is very comfortable plus it keeps the translations as separate blog posts which is good for SEO. Anyway it screwed up my theme and did not work with All in One SEO so I needed a different SEO plugin. But it works very well. You can translate all you categories and pages and have full control.
Best
