How does anytone  think LR5 stacks up against Capture NX. I like the sound of better clone etc tools? and Capture doesn't seem to be being developed further.

Personally I always wait about six months at least for software to settle down  and let new customers do the product testing!

I used it from the first day it was possible to download it
No problem till now. The new instrument to correct perspective is really amazing in 90% of the situations.

The software having nothing less than the previous version, and having something more, I don't see any reason to not upgrade.

I've always used Aperature and done all of my edits in PS CS5.
Missing out by not picking up LR5?

Is the keyword feature STILL putting the keywords in alphabetical order?  If yes, I'm not going to upgrade.

Looks like they are keeping that horrible SPOT REMOVAL tool. Gawd I hate that thing. How about adding a cloning tool and spot healing. I hate having to run over to PS to clean up stuff. Comon Adobe cut the crap.

I actually really like it. Works quite well for me!

I purchased LR5 and so far it seems fine. I just need to get stuck into the new features, but havent had the need for them yet.

The essence of Lightroom is a library and a raw developer in the same software.
The rest is just optional
Btw the clone/spot instrument is not so bad in LR5, surely very better than in the previous versions.
And personally I find the selection brush very efficient.

For those who have upgraded from LR 4.x to LR 5, how's the performance?

A few months back, a stock photographer upgraded and found the performance was significantly slower in LR5. This performance test article says LR 5 was 10% to 20% slower than LR 4

http://www.slrlounge.com/lightroom-lr5-lr4-hardware-performance-test-review

But this review says LR 5 is faster!

The comments at the end of this article suggest a number of people had/have performance problems:

So far I can tell, and I have only processed about 40 images, but I dont think its slower, it processes nicely and I think some parts are faster. Everything works fine, all plugins, all exports, etc. works fine, not slow. But I have to say, I did a clean W7 install before installing LR5. Might be related as my previous W7 was quite cluttered.

how funny, I think for removing dust spots the spot/clone tool (in ACR, not LR, but they are effectively the same program) works really, really well. I prefer to look for dust spots in ACR. other stuff, like removing logos and other tricky clones requires PS. I'm not upgrading yet, and I'll be dragged kicking and screaming into a LR-PS workflow.

I find that for the general work of correction (raw development) LR5 is very fluid.
The quality of the denoising is very good, even if I still prefer to use Noiseware (Imagenomic) in Photoshop.
I did not notice a big difference using the various retouching instruments, but in reality I don't use a lot these instruments. From my point of view they work better than in LR 4.5 where they always gave me a lot of problem of visualization/refresh.
I like a lot the new function "full screen" allowing to see the image without any panel just hitting the space bar.
I must say than since I use LR5 is use less Photoshop than before (but maybe it is just a coincidence).
I surely not turn back to LR4 (or Aperture)
(I am on Mac with 10.8.4)

I upgraded to Lightroom 5 and it was an improvement.  I am currently working on the beta release of Lightroom 5.2 and it is significantly quicker than Lightroom 5.

Any idea when the 5.2 will be released to the general public?
