Anyone using Microsoft's OneDrive for their cloud backup (like I am). should be aware of big changes they announced a couple days ago - just search on "OneDrive changes" and you'll see a firestorm in progress. They're walking back all their promises of unlimited free storage, raising prices and - apparently - dropping some paid options altogether, although it's hard to be really sure because it's wrapped in the usual fog of corporatese.
I'm on a paid plan for 200gb and, while it's apparently not being shut down immediately, the future is clouded.
This represents a big step back for MS. They'll lose all their credibility in cloud storage.

That's the summary of changes.
While the plans aren't unreasonable - if that's what you started out with - it seems illogical to say that you're cutting free storage from 15GB to 5GB because some users had 75TB of stuff backed up. If the latter is the problem, then deal with those folks directly and leave everyone else be...

If I read the statement correctly, they will no longer offer new 100/200 gb plans, only 50gb, which seems like an incredible walkback. They say current users of those 100/200 plans can continue. But I have well over 100gb on OneDrive now - what happens if I go over 200gb? Apparently, I'd be stuck. Might as well move now, because it will only get harder.
The "abusive user" story is being derided as a cover-up. Obviously there were better ways to deal with a small number of people storing huge amounts of illegal content (movies, etc) and MS is supposed to be a technological leader; they should have predicted this, detected it and quietly dealt with it. The real reason may be just cost savings.
This is an incredibly bad move on their part. People are going to leave OneDrive in droves, not just because of this change but because of doubts about the future - and I mean corporate IT, not just home users. I've read that the OneDrive group in MS is in disarray, and it seems like the whole thing is on shaky ground.
Nadella has been chanting "mobile first, cloud first" in his public statements, but this change just eviscerates that pitch. It puts another nail in the coffin of Windows Phone and makes Windows 10, with its fully integrated OneDrive, that much less appealing. I have to assume that Nadella approved this change, but maybe not in detail, or the way in which it was just dropped like a bomb. I wouldn't be surprised if it's at least partially rolled back.

Why did they just do this..I was not aware of it..It Absolutely disappointing me..Thats why the people dont use this type of services /.,

I had a 5TB NAS cloud drive. Security was the biggest problem. Each day I would have several hack attempts from China (many), Korea and USA.
Luckily the NAS software stopped the break in attempts but it was only a matter of time before it failed.

That's the reason why I trust my own external hard drives better.
