Texture adds contrast to small details.
Clarity adds contrast to larger details and mostly the midtones (similar to adding Unsharp Mask at a medium radius with the Luminosity blend mode).
Dehaze adds contrast (and saturation) to even larger parts.
Sharpening adds contrast to the smallest details.
Each slider is basically Unsharp Mask with a different radius, but done with more intelligent/adapting algorithms so the results are/can be better at extreme settings.

well haha, i said i hadn't watched any tutes on this new feature, was looking for the 5 word definition, rather than watching a 15min waffle on video. Although having watched it, it was very good, thanks.
I rarely use Clarity, it's too much for most scenes. (depends on what you shoot of course)

While I now do most of my edits in Lightroom, I still bring most of my landscapes into Nik Color Effex (via the handy LR plug-in), to get that tonal range and really make the details pop without over-sharpening. I've tried Clarity but haven't been able to get the effects I'm seeking (though I love a bit of Dehaze especially for water, skies and cloudscapes). I'm intrigued by this newest slider. Maybe I can figure out the right combo of tweaks to skip that extra step.
I've started checking out some of the Adobe Tutorials - and find I'm learning so much I didn't even realize I didn't know. I took a class on Photoshop back in 2006 at a local community college, and some short seminars at PhotoExpo over the years (and online) with Adobe's Lightroom/Photoshop "Evangelist" Julianne Kost (personally, I think "evangelist" is a brilliant marketing term), but after using LR & PS for so many years it's easy to become complacent and forget that there is always so much more to learn.
I started shooting with a 42MP Sony A7rii last year and tweaking those files to get out all those amazing details is really a treat. The Capture One software is nice too - actually quite awesome, but I am so slow at processing to begin with, that I try to stick with what I can do within LR (and PS if I need to), otherwise I'll be 70 by the time I get to this year's images.

Wow - just watched that video - I think it may do what I had hoped Clarity would.
Definitely well worth 15 minutes and a picture's worth more than that 5-word definition for sure 8)
