Stacey I remember the way you treated your fellows here, as IS took a downturn and made many unfortunate decisions that impacted contributors. You spoke for IS to the bitter end; I would not expect that to change in relationship to SS and Offset.

well, I'm not sure that is an accurate or productive statement. but you're entitled to your opinion. I think maintaining a willingness to adapt with the industry changes and work with our peers is a good approach to staying successful in stock photography. I'll stick with it and keep on keeping on.

I would like to think that many contributors would speak to my unwavering willingness to help anyone in our industry. I help contributors almost every day to navigate their work, the industry, and to help them with their stock portfolios. I have been fortunate enough to participate in shoots with our colleagues all over the world. the opportunity to learn by osmosis is remarkable in stock. we have so many incredible, generous people in our community, the community is very much alive and one thing that has always kept me invested has been the opportunity to work alongside so many wonderful people. that hasn't changed.

osmosis, SN, i like the word. osmosis is everywhere in any business amongst those who see competition as healthy impetus. a long time ago, i saw this osmosis too, and this was what gave me a helping hand to my photography business as a gremlin. the local icons were all willing to guide me offering me whatever help i need, while the other not so good photographers told me to shove off.
it is this osmosis that produces thriving people in the business. protectionism and elitists are scared of competition. but fortunately there are still the best ones who see peer-to-peer osmosis as what keeps them in the business. hats off to you for being one who realises this osmosis is healthy SNP

As you now know both sites from the inside how would you compare them?

I thought Stocksy was treating their contributors properly? Is that not the case?

Obviously they don't  or perhaps SS/Offset offered better terms ;)

But seeing as Ms Newman works for the opposition now then I can't see that she would comment one way or the other

She had a job, she was offered another job. She left one for the other. I doubt she'd be willing to burn bridges by making comparisons or trashing a former employer.

I trust her to be objective but even you don't her opinion would be still very valueable. I don't expect her to talk bad about any of them but every agency has its strengths and weaknesses to analyze this can only help.

Shelma - I'll thank you not to post you inaccurate assumptions about me. I don't know you, and you certainly don't know me. I didn't leave one job for another. I made a very difficult and very unplanned departure. It was only at a later date that I was presented with an opportunity.

I think there is a lot of data out there about the various agencies for those who want to know more. Shutterstock has never required exclusivity, and I certainly feel free to discuss other agencies where my work is also for sale. You can easily see the files I have for sale elsewhere.

I'm a contributor, I want to make good and fair money, and I want to be involved in the community and to help other contributors if I can, and to continue learning from other contributors too. Where those things are possible, I submit work.

What does the perfect wife (or husband) is like? I think we could easily agree that there is no global definition for some questions. It's always a matter of personal perspective, and I do like the way Stocksy treats its contributors but I also like Shutterstock's approach to contributors, and I enjoy when an image of mine gets licensed through Offset (I'm not a direct contributor, though, my images are going there through a distribution partner).

You can't make useful, neutral comparisons between different agencies. And quite frankly, both of them are very restrictive, so if you get the chance to submit to either of them, I would recommend you take it.

Osmosis is the spontaneous net movement of solvent molecules through a semi-permeable membrane into a region of higher solute concentration, in the direction that tends to equalize the solute concentrations on the two sides

So if you have an expert on one side of the semi-permeable membrane and a beginner on the other side then by osmosis they both equalize and become average  ;)

No glass ceiling in the stock industry but you may run up against the "semi-permeable membrane"  ;D

A little off topic but didn't want to start a new thread.  Can any of you Stocksy folks tell me what their file size requirements are?  I've looked through both old MSG threads as well as the Stocksy site to no avail.  It's probably mentioned somewhere, but I couldn't find it.  I'm preparing a submission for this year's "Call to Artists," and want to know what is the minimum file size they'll accept (excluding phone camera files).

Many thanks in advance!

For last year (2014), they had mentioned 6 MP for a minimum of 25 photos. No upsampling/increased file sizes. They also said yes to mobile and film scans.
