Do you use categories and do you think they help with sales.
Surely most people would look view Keywords rather than search via categories.
Especially on StockXpert, ifyou upload via Ftp, the photos can be approved before you even have a time to choose the categories (Some didn't even have keywords where the IPTA data didn't work).
Is it worthwhile going back and putting some in?
On other sites, is it worthwhle putting in as many as possible or just the bare minimum?

yeah good question.
I don't bother submitting catagories on stockxpert.. i seem to be getting sales, especially in the last little while, so I don't think I will add catagories in the future.
On sites like istock where you can pile on the catagories like they were keywords, I think it is hard to know how long to spend. Usually though I can't be bothered with picking more than about 5. Perhaps this shows in my sales though, I am not sure.
Generally on the other sites like dreamstime, bigstock, and shutterstock I try to pick the maximum, 2 or 3 whatever the case may be.

I believe that I read on the iStock forums that you can't even search by categories yet.

I wonder if the catagories have something to do with the search function though.
If i have a picture of a cello, and it is in the cello catagory, it might come up first in a search for 'cello', over all those other images which may have a cello in them, but not in the cello catagory.
