My month of waiting has finally come up on Sunday.  I would really like to know if you guys would be able to help me out and help me pick my 5 to submit to StockXpert that way I don't have to get rejected again. Would that be possible?

I'd really appreciate it.

I'd love to help, but what do you exactly want from us? SY

I would just like to post some pictures either in this forum or on a website and ask whether or not, from your experiences, you believe they will pass the test.  I don't want to get rejected again for an entire month.  I got shafted by Shutterstock when I shouldn't have and I don't have a constant earner which I need...so any help would be greatly appreciated in passing the initial submission

well feel free to post some examples.  I am sure there is a few here who will give their opinions (in any case I will)

A forum without opinions.  Come on.  That's like suggesting the world is going to stop spinning.  Show us your pictures if you dare.  ;)

As promised, here's some pictures.  I have a few more in mind, but I don't want to bog you guys down with too much too quickly.  As well, do you need to pass every picture to get accepted?  And do you think these pictures will get me into StockXpert? :) All these pictures have been accepted into Dreamstime, my harshest critic.

Tennis?

ichiro,

I'm not sure I am in a position to judge, but here is my opinion. I like the tennis one and the baseball bat on grass. The baseball bat on the wall looks too flat to me - the vertical position of the bat I guess.  The parrot close-up is not good, too unfocused and a bit pixelized (upsized?).  The full parrot is ok to me, though not very attractive.

Regards,
Adelaide

Awesome, thanks.

I didn't want to use the baseball one against the wall - the parrot closeup is not very good because I don't think I cropped the other properly.  The full parrot is quite popular (for views and 1 or 2 downloads so far on other sites)

Here's my humble opinion, for what it's worth.  The parrot is noisy and has major artifacting.  My guess is that you saw the image was soft, and so you applied a lot of USM.  As well, the focus seems to be on the neck feathers rather than the eyes--the overall DOF is too shallow.  I guarantee that neither SS or IS will take it.

The baseball photos are better, but don't seem to me to have a market.  Who do you want to purchase these photos?  What uses do you foresee for these images?  The same goes for the tennis racket.

The image of the pens and graphs seems to me much better composed.  The only real problem I see here is that you haven't given enough white space.  You need to provide more space around the main elements because (1) designers would like to be able to crop the image to their own needs, and you haven't allowed for this; (2) there isn't any room for text that might overlay your image.

As I say, though, this is just my opinion.  My sales aren't anywhere near leaf's--or the many others who contribute such sound advice to this forum.

Not to worry about your advice, all that you said is absorbed.  The baseball photo on the grass has sold on Dreamstime and on 123RF (more than once on 123RF).  The tennis racket has sold on 123 but thats about it.  You may be correct about the bird though, although that also sells well on 123RF and has sold once on Dreamstime.  I value your opinion and I will take it into consideration when I edit/shoot my photographs because I'm not very advanced and I'd like to become more advanced.

As for the noise, it may be because I had to reduce the JPEG quality.  The original doesn't have that much noise and it was accepted into Dreamstime, who are so-so when it comes to being picky about noise

One last thing that I've noticed...no one yet has given me an indication from their experiences whether they think these pictures will be accepted at StockXpert

allright, here is my opinion. I haven't read the other opinions yet because i didn't want to be influenced by them :) so sorry if i write something that has been said.

first paret shot
- nice image, good placement of the parret in the frame.  nice background color.  It looks like the sharpness is right behind the eye (on the body).. so the eye of the parret isn't in focus. I would try shooting with a larger aperature.
second parret (close up) - seems very noisy in the red, and over sharpened.  The focus is again just behind the eye, which is too bad.I feel it is also a little tightly cropped
Bat against wall - nice image.  I am not sure i am a big fan of the center framing, but it has potential.  I don't think it is bad the way it is, I just think it could be stronger with a tiny bit different angale of picture, or crop
Bat on grass with ball - nice image.  Perhaps one of my favorites.  Nice framing and shot setup.  I think it could be a smidgen brighter though.  Take it in to an editing program, and take it WAY to bright then bring it back to where you think it should be.  Compare it to how it was before and see which one looks better.
Tennis ball and racket - well, it has the on camera flash in a dark room look to it a bit to much, but an allright concept
calculator image - nice set up and good 'story line'. Decent lighting and i imagine very usefull stock.

hope that helps

Thanks for the help on these ones.  I may have a few more, if thats okay with you guys.  I also want you guys to see my work as well just so that you can associate something with my name.

Thanks Leaf for the breakdown, I appreciate it.

For the inital submission, from your comments, I would pick the 2 baseball ones and the calculator one as well, and hopefully they would be approved by StockXpert.  I am waiting for Dreamstime to take a look at another 13 photos and hopefully I can use those as a base to pick a few more.

From the list then, I guess I should avoid the tennis racket, and the parrot (although I want to use this one)

The parrot ones dont look focused on the eye.  i woudl prefer the ey and beck to be in focus where as it seems the neck is. - this might just be bacause of the reduced file size.

No no, you guys are correct. The parrot is not really in focus which is a shame because the picture came out a lot better than I had expected.

I can now reapply.  This makes me happy :)  Hopefully I can get approved.
