Something seems to be going on at SX, for the first time in a year I've got 6 of 6 photos rejected by them, this for me is really out of the ordinary, I don't have a huge portfolio with them only about 170+ photos, but up to this moment minimum rejections, is this going to be a new trend for the site? FOOLISH REJECTIONS!!!...since the only reason for the rejections they give is "we have too many of that subject", mind you, some of the pictures where of a Purple Gallinule, a native bird of the Florida's Everglades, please, how many of those has anyone seen on a picture there?...if they're going to start with foolish rejections they should also consider that most of the commissions they're paying to contributors lately are 0.30 subscriptions, so to contribute to a site that rejects for no obvious reasons and pay 0.30 for full size pictures, I'm the one beginning to feel like a fool uploading there anymore.
-
There are 4 pictures of this bird that have been on the StockXpert for several years and never sold. IS's top selling image of this creature has sold twice in two years. Are these rejections so foolish that you would consider boycotting the site? It's not nice receiving rejections and reviewers don't always get it right, but unless your images are of a high technical content and strong images, I believe you may find it difficult getting them accepted.
-
Thanks, stu99 for the update on pictures of the Purple Gallinule, and the lack of sales of such photos on SX and IS, but those where only 2 pictures out of the 6, the other four where already accepted at 123 and CanStockPhoto + a couple of other smaller agencies with no problem, it just seem very weird that they where all rejected...I guess I'll upload a few more and wait and see what develops, before I make a final decission about SX.
Best regards.

It is of course entirely possible that the existing photos don't sell because apart from being an obscure subject, they also aren't exactly the most amazing photos.
Having said that, I think a single set of rejections shouldn't be a reason to pull the plug just yet.
-
Apart from those "we are not looking for this type of image", I find StockXpert rejections generally very reasonable. If they are technically good images, maybe you should write support?

Adelaide

Adelaide, I did, and I'm waiting to hear from them...

FYI: Checked this morning and the 2 pictures of the Purple Gallinule where accepted in 2 sites + 3 of the other ones rejected by SX...
Best regards.

Ever since Getty took StockXpert things seem to go downhill. I think the regular reviewers were replaced. Review reasons, review time, started to be similar to one godly Big6 site. ;) (knock knock another nail to the coffin of a once excellent site, pity).

Dreamstime. Looks like one person uploaded most of them, taken on the same day at the same place. http://tinyurl.com/c37tlp
StockXpert - all four images, http://www.stockxpert.com/browse_image/search/text/Purple%20Gallinule
BS - Hey look same pictures. http://www.bigstockphoto.com/search.php?photo_name=Purple+Gallinule&x=18&y=11
FT - 27 and some nice different pictures, http://tinyurl.com/cpl53v
I'd think that StockXpert would like to have your images for some variety and offer customers more choices.
-
You would think so!... ;)
Thanks.

if these are your images, you already have 9 dls with that set to start at DT.
why do you worry about StockXpert?

Tonight 3 of 3 more stupid rejections from StockXpert...is anyone else having this problem with them?, or is this something personal...well it is time for me to leave them behind for a while!!!...pity once a great site, turning into this piece of crap.
And BTW I'm still waiting for an answer from support about my first rejections.

No m@m, not just only you. A few people have already grumbled about their mass rejections lately .Atilla must be working for StockXpert nowadays 8)
-
Thanks for the info batman... ;D
-
Same thing here. Until about a week ago, they accepted almost 100% of what I uploaded. The last week, they've rejected 19 out of 20. The one they accepted was one of four similars, and they didn't even pick the best one ???
Seems like the reviews are finally going the same way as sales at StockXpert. I'm amazed how they've been able to ruin what used to be a very well run agency less than a year ago. Incompetence at the highest level, but I'm sure the management will be rewarded with some mega size bonuses before they are thrown out :D
-
Every site I use has the occasional bad review, that doesn't mean the site is falling to pieces. Most people don't come here and say all my images were accepted and sales are great.
By the way, they just accepted all of my last batch and I had a big BME there last month :)
-
for the first time i had 10/10 rejected at stockxpert, even at shutterstock 7 of those 10 were accepted. Normally it was the other way around.
I think i have to try harder in the future!
-
.since the only reason for the rejections they give is "we have too many of that subject", mind you, some of the pictures where of a Purple Gallinule, a native bird of the Florida's Everglades,
Did you try a a Purple Gallinule, cheering with a headset, making a business wingshake with a Crested Caracara? :P ;D
-
Yes I did Flemish, but they still rejected it...they said that they had enough of those too... :P ;D
-
Well, the joke was a way to say that rare birds, rare nature etc... are probably not microstockworthy since it's hard to imagine how they could endorse a product. You probably need to upload it to specialized sites. But of course, the rejection reason "too many" is funny. They should have said LCV in microstock.
-
You'll be surprise about that, just on DT a similar photo was DL 9 times, and on some other big sites as well...look you just never know what photo may be needed in the design world, thats what I do for a living, so trust me I know...
BTW, I got this today from StockXpert support:
We are changing our reviewing process in order to meet different market segment demands. From now on we will have a stricter approach to various subject matters and only the best will be approved. The main reasons are that we have an abundance of the same subjects (more or less) so this will encourage our contributors to concentrate on the type of images that our clients are looking for. This will potentially help with your sales as well as image views and in the long run help with review times.
Thank you for your understanding,
-
This seems like it is something that should be e-mailed or at least sitemailed to all contributors, rather than just in response to one person's support query.
A new submission policy affects everyone.
-
I don't understand the "abundance" thing, unless it is very, very overabundant. Newer images tend to be taken in newer equipment, with better quality and larger sizes (not as a rule, but we have all improven these years, haven't we?). New images give the site a fresh portfolio - new approaches, new faces.
It would make more sense to limit the number of images in the same series. Not rarely we see 10 or more images with the same setup and very small differences.
Regards,
Adelaide

17/18 rejected, our images usually go straight up for us, too.
We locked out subs and affiliates. They are the next that I'll pull our port from, I'm sure. Especially if they make opt-in mandatory. The mere fact that they had so many issues reporting affiliate sales so many times made them real unstable for us.
Well, at least they took one :P

they took one, wow ! ;D
what say we all tell the now Getty owned StockXpert that we too have "enough of this subject", so we don't need them either? 8)
what a way to kill a once excellent site. The new anal StockXpert reviewers need an enema ! ::)

lol batman , surprise to see you ripping off The Joker's punchline !!!
seriously, there is definitely a change for the worst. My images just sit there in stasis waiting for review. Usually the post-Getty StockXpert reviewers would review my images within hours, not weeks.
I guess this is a nice way of saying , "bugger off, chum !"
but at least we still getting sales with our old stuff. 30 cents here , 30 cents there...
another 100 and i will just earn enough for another case of Guinness ;D
-
Mine are just flapping in the wind also...they use to be pretty quick...I'm just thankful I got as many uploaded there as I did before they got so picky...I just joined in the last two weeks and have already been having sales so I hate to see them end up like you know who...:)
-
Well, I seem to be doing alright with them. Steady sales, nothing rejected, and quick reviews of 1 to 2 days. Can't say I've noticed any change in the site lately. Keeping my fingers crossed!
-
They just approved all the photos that I uploaded yesterday. Same kind of subject as the ones they rejected the day before, same shooting, same lighting, same everything. Oh well ::)

Thank you for your understanding,
This sounds frightening. I hope they will change their mind... Clearly they are changing everything because of the stupid getty-thing. Nevertheless I had 100% images accepted yesterday. (and they were exactly the same subjects as usual) So it might not be so bad.
-
rofl epixx peep
So the solution to all this rejections is to resubmit .
Or according to new Gettysburg battle , oops sorry, i mean Getty announcement,
pull out all the old rejects from your year's StockXpert submissions and resubmit them now. For sure, those are the images StockXpert does NOT have an ABUNDANCE of...
;D
buf Getty dudes, you should have thrown us this curve ball announcement a little sooner , ie. April 1 8)

Well I think I win... just had a batch of 50/50 rejected - I'm in the process of uploading my whole portfolio - thought I may as well seeing as I had a bit of spare time.
Reason given is identical for all images: "general image quality is not acceptable". Funny thing is that most of these are on FT, IS, DT and SS.
I'm also getting some "no keywords" rejections - mainly because I still haven't quite worked out the upload system and hadn't got around to fixing some batches before the review went through. Does anyone know if there is an easy way of re-submitting without sending emails to support?

for single resubmit
if i can recall, the same way as you would replace an image...
it's EDIT ...
then do the correction,
and SUBMIT
this will put your image back into waiting status
for batch, i don't know ;D

I read a post by SteveO a few months back either here or on the StockXpert forums saying to contact support and ask for the images to be re-instated. I don't know why they continue to do this as it's obvious that the uploader hasn't finished his job yet. They should just leave them a few days and then come back to them later.

It has been stated in the StockXpert forums that after submitting, images are given 3 days to have keywords added, and 1 day for model releases. I would post a note in the forums and ask for your images to be re-reviewed and also send a note to support.

<soapbox on>
This is what gets me -- clearly they have a list of what they want and what they don't. Why not give us that list? Why not tell us directly instead of using the rejection process and keeping us guessing and wasting both of our times?
<soapbox off>
I have only uploaded one small batch this month and all five are still "pending" (for over a week now -- unusual for them). Was going to contact support about that, but if they're in a rejecting mood, maybe I'm better off leaving them in the que for a while longer LOL
-
All they want now is whatever they think they can sell this week.
It's going to get crazier, and crazier, and then there's going to be a big shakeout in this business. The big boys will sit back and tell themselves they've won. But, they haven't quite been able to destroy the internet itself, and sooner or later another way for small players to market their images will emerge.
-
I think some are already in the works, is just an uphill battle for them at this moment, but give them a little time and a little help...then the big boys will be singing another tune as they fall down from grace. ;D

I also have a few images pending for more than a week. I wrote to support yesterday. Today I just got a message "be patient" :)
In the same time I know that some people had their images from today approved already. Just unusual for them to take this long....
Update: 5 minutes later, they got all approved. :)

That sounds optimistic, really ! I hope StockXpert is alive and well again, because it's a good site.
I pull out all my images in queque that was growing mouldy ;D
but now that you mentioned it, I hope things will be back to normal for all of us.
The sales are still healthy, though. All subs, but still sales. But I sure like to be able to submit more new images as I have a backlog here waiting for StockXpert to wake up.

same here bat, sales just this week came to almost what i made last month. so it sure looks good, even if they're only subs.

youre not the only one. if they are in a rejecting mood, i too am going to roost on my new images. or just go elsewhere. but i agree with bat, sure hope StockXpert don't die a horrible death. it was a good site for me for the last half year in 2008.
-
batman, I sure hope they wake up soon, cause it looks like they're missing out on allot of uploads from everybody...want to go half and get them an alarm clock for Easter! ;D

All of my pending files have been approved.

EDITED FOR A MORE GENERAL COMMENT.
hey m@m , alarm clock costs money. something like 10 subs sales, lol.
on Easter sunday when we all wake up early to go hunt for easter eggs with the kids, let's all hope StockXpert wakes up too ;D .
HAPPY EASTER ...happy hot cross buns StockXpert approvals .
-
HAPPY EASTER to you and your family as well batman. ;D

This is funny, images accepted by IS, DT, CanStockPhoto, 123 where rejected bt StockXpert, is this a joke or what?
-
WOHOOO! ;D I'm in da club! My small batch is rejected because they are not interested in that subject matter :D
I think that's it! I reached my maximum at StockXpert. I don't think I will manage to add some new images.

that's too bad whitechild, you've been having a bad time lately...
m@m, maybe they hired Atilla ;)

Me, too, me, too! :D :D
This is the first time I've UL'd to StockXpert in a while, and about 50% of my images were rejected because "we're not interested in this subject matter".
This is new to me. I'm used to getting 100% acceptance from them. Very disappointing.
-
I just had 2 pix rejected for "visible dirt". ::) That's a new for me.
-
My artist app just got rejected because "not interested in this subject matter." Blew me over because SS just swallowed nearly everything I sent them with a thank you and here is another sale... 8)
-
I have had a couple of rejections from them lately as well, but also quite a few batches taht were 100% accepted.
I had to contact support the last two times to initiate image review as well.
-
Stopped uploading in the middle of this month. When I cool down I might restart next month.
-
I just had 2 pix rejected for "visible dirt". ::) That's a new for me.
Now that's a new one. My problem has been not getting my uploads reviewed. I quit for a bit, but tried again, a few week ago before I left for wilderness camping. I came back this afternoon and see it's still unreviewed. Also the sales are down, after having my best month February. Are any of you getting improved sales this month at all?
-
Also the sales are down, after having my best month February. Are any of you getting improved sales this month at all?
Looks like the worst month of the year for me, after a BME last month. :(
In fact, I'm down almost 50% in $ over last month, and almost 40% in #. (That probably means there was an increased % of subs, but I won't run the numbers until the month is over.)
-
For me it's going down across agencies not only StockXpert.
-
For me it's going down across agencies not only StockXpert.
I think it's just that we are getting so close to the summer vacation period. That could have explained why February was my best month ever, and then it's deadsville again. Oh well, looking towards Sept.
-
My vacations will be in late September ;-) I started uploading to micros year ago and actually summer was great for me last year. Maybe because I got a lot of nature and travel shots?
-
For me, sales seem to finally be changing from all subs to some good numbers at StockXpert, rejections are starting to slow down, also, several $2.5/$5 DL have started to come in, reviews time still the same though (a looong time)...
You just never know what's going to happen there anymore (the strange StockXpert world), but hey, if things keep on going this way, I'll start uploading there again. ;)
