Title: 100% Stability. Lets fix the final few bugs. The Final Bug Stomping Thread+
Post by: Leo Blanchette on June 09, 2013, 17:46
Please report the last few bugs that are setting people back. This week I may be able to gradually bring this theme to "stable". Over the next few weeks we can even solve the rest of the minor issues, making it %100 functional.

After this I will be offering paid plugins and services :D , so only the initial keg of beer is free. At least now you don't have to pick the flies out of your mugs. During this phase I'll be adding "hooks" to to the code so any place in the theme can be expounded on through plugins.

I'll list the the bugs, and please tell me more to add.

1. Godaddy Users are not seeing Symbiostock-specific emails sent to customers. -- very deep problem due to godaddy hosting quirks. DELAYED until more developers enter.
Fixed
2. Cart's "agree" button does not work in every situation (improve Javascript functions)
3. Cascoly needs XML output as well as CSV since CSV does not always play nice outside of SY environment.
4. Datasheets cause errors during editing process.
5. Google location trips an error on some hosting (around the file_get_contents() line)
6. Image processor seems to trip on uppercase 'JPG' extensions. Make sure files are converted to lowercase as soon as added to directory.
7. Special request to add dates to image csvs for the sake of new/oldest order of collected search results.
8.klsbear (http://www.microstockgroup.com/profile/?u=4658) has found some strategies to keep "thank you for your purchase" emails out of spam folders. Try to incorporate.
9. Symbiostock is in desperate need of Godaddy compatibility in email and imagemagick command line. This will be added as a feature, does not necessarily constitute a bug.
10. Thumbnails must have hover-icons on the all-images main page.
11. IPTC meta data must have errors repressed. Obviously we will never catch all of them...but it seems to work despite silly small errors now and then.
12. Images must reflect if they are exclusive or not!
13. Categories must be a serialized php array, not html!
14. Sorting ksort() is not working properly as it does on local machine. Needs extra values to get it to sort alphabetically.
15. Ensure search results show newest first, not oldest.

On a personal note - since everyone will be reading this post - do not hesitate to find ways monetize Symbiostock through other services (such as Zazzle, etc) and report your findings/progress. Its very important that Symbiostock becomes a powerhorse for your profession, maximizing every facet of opportunity. Symbiostock's biggest purpose is to make money during hard times. Lets make sure we are not leaving any stones unturned.

ok - here's my version of the paypal bugs:

login as the buyer 'testing2'  it still shows an image1 i paid for awhile ago in my customer license area (this also didn't get any download info) i click to buy a different image2, and it goes to the cart listing 2 x $2.  i delete the old image, and click agree but the green box doesnt light up so i cant pay.  when i refresh the old image1 is back.  i click on image1 and get the image1 page, but clicking on 'download' there (showing only $2, not the $4 it should be if there were still 2 images), and it goes to the cart showing only image2 and now allows me to click the green button.

something's getting left over??

ok, the paypal transaction then proceeds

go to paypal and it takes payment, shows me the paypal completed transaction, and then ( something completely different for me from previous versions) it does redirect me, as it should(?) to my cart with the message

====Items still in your cart, and not in your download area?
Wait a few seconds and refresh the page. Sometimes paypal takes a few minutes to notify us. If you still have problems, please contact us.
====

but nothing ever appears.
where is my 'download area' supposed to be? there's nothing to go to other than my cart and the rest of the cascoly site.   when i go to the main page then back to my cart, the above message is gone, but the image is still in my cart with a total listed for $2

trying  further....
logout; login as admin; logout; log back in  as testing2, nothing's changed

------------------------------------
the money shows up in my paypal account right away.

in the buyer's email i get a paypal receipt, and nothing else.  nothing in spam folder either.

exclude boxes not working on marketing page  - I can click & save, but when I come back later all are reset to blank

-----
in media lib,

if you select several items, then click 'delete permanently' you get a confirm message saying all selected items will be deleted, but in fact it only deletes that one item.  bulk delete does work as it should

----
on the marketing page, can you list the sites alphabetically?  when they're random it makes it difficult to compare with other lists to know who I might need to add or update;  will get especially difficult when there are hundreds of symbio sites!

-----
this was an old one - not sure if it got fixed; haven't done a lot of image processing lately...
=============== posted 5/21
when an  image is processed discovered description is sometimes doubled

takes 1 desc from iptc and other from xmp  -- eg,shows desc as:
Ski lift carries skiers to the high alpine mountains2
Ski lift carries skiers to the high alpine mountains 1

the first is from xmp-description, the second from iptc caption-abstract, so it's not just a duplication, but it's taking 2 different forms of metadata for desc

I'm not sure if this is what you're referring to in point #4 but I'm still getting this error message when I edit/update/publish some, but not all, images.

Warning: unpack() [function.unpack]: Type A: not enough input, need 1, have 0 in /home2/"username"/public_html/karensarragaphotography/wp-content/themes/symbiostock/inc/classes/PHP_JPEG_Metadata_Toolkit/IPTC.php on line 263

You still have admin access to my site.  If it helps with troubleshooting, looking at the most recent images in the All Images area, I get the error on the 3 watermelon images, not on the tomato paste image, and on the first aid supplies image but not the first aid kit with the orange helmet.  I didn't test further down the list but when I reprocess all images I get the error message about 180 times which is better than half the images I have posted.

I think this is related.  Registered a new user and tried to add more than one thing to my cart, but only see the first thing.  If I try to remove the item from the cart it reappears if I refresh.

When I delete the item in the cart the page displays "Please log in to view your cart."  Should this be something more like, "Your cart is empty" ...?

Registration issue

Signed up as new user. Got the notice that a new "customer" had registered almost immediately but now it's been over an hour and I'm still waiting for my password so I can test out the purchasing process.  It seems to be a registration e-mail issue, not Bluehost or my cable provider.  I tried sending an e-mail from my gmail account to my account with the cable provider that I'm using as the test account and that went through within a minute.

While this may not be a bug it is certainly a problem.  I would like the image options on the Symbiostock Images page to be changed.  The default option is currently "Trash".  It should be either edit or view.  See attached.

In my author options area I've set the default for both model and property releases to "N/A" but when I upload an image the info for that image says "Yes" for both model and property release.

It's not a default, it's a warning. Nothing will happen until you deliberately click on one of those options.

It's not actually a BUG but the term monster "End User License Agreement" has BUGGED me right from the beginning. Now, with the new requirement of having explicitly agree to the EULA to activate checkout (which I like), we have added insult to injury. Probably because it sounds sort of weird to agree to an agreement the EULA is named here "End User License Agreement & Terms" (of course, you can agree to terms...  ;D).

So here's my request (which I hope finds broad support within the community): Can we please have "End User License Agreement" and "End User License Agreement & Terms" replaced by just "License Terms" throughout the theme?

I posted in technical about this a couple of days ago, believe crackerclips has same problem.

Png and jpg images uploaded together, same names, only show png when published. Indicates until then that both will show.  Not with every image,  though and not related to size only tried in v2.4.1

The only thing majorly different between yours and mine (received my test user within a few seconds) is that yours mentions Postini.  Anyone else having problems and using Postini?  I signed up for Bluehost a while ago and never enabled Postini.

Update:  then again, my site is practically empty and not part of the network--it's complicated :\

figured i'd better process some more images... uploaded 6 images
then started to process them and meanwhile opened a new tab, added new categories and started to edit other images.
it showed 2 of the new images and a blank box for a third.  waited until processing was done and now there are NINE images -- 3 are duplicated

---------------
this happened to me earlier but i didnt track the sequence as closely -- while waiting for a bunch of files to upload, i started editing other images.  i know the simple answer is 'stop hitting yourself with the hammer', but the image editing should be locked if it interferes with processing

=================
Leo, many versions ago, you said you'd put the image description in as a default for the meta description -- i'm using yoast, but didnt set up desc templates because i thought it was being done automatically;  but looking at the image page, there is no meta description

Under Settings there is a Share tab.  I have attached a screen shot of what mine looks like.  I think the critical part is the check box next to Symbiostock images.  This is all part of the Jetpack plugin.

Disclaimer:  It has been a couple of weeks since I implemented that.  I have slept since then,  so I hope I am giving you the correct information.

On a side note, if you go to the Screen Options (upper right) to open the drop-down field you can check and uncheck the boxes to show just the fields you want to see in this view.  Turning off the price options allows more space for viewing description, keywords, etc. instead of getting the long, narrow columns for those fields.

I logged a ticket with BlueHost concerning this delay.  They are not using Postini on my account as this is a paid service.  Here is their response:
I do not see Postini being used on our end nor is there even an email account that has been set up with us using that domain. So, I do not see any issues on our end, but rather, wherever the mail is suppose be handled. Please let us know if there is anything else we can do for you, or if you have any other questions or concerns.

Not sure where to go from here.

Dont know if it has been addressed yet, dont know if its a bug either.

When I edit cart.php and save it back into the cart folder the site goes blank for most people and the Jetpack visitor graph image in the top bar disappears. Its causing a lot of issues. And all I did was remove the brackets of the Euro symbol. But also when I changed the paypal .gif link, it happened. It seems the site doesnt like it when someone tampers with the cart.php file.

You're already admin on my site and I'm having the e-mail problem.  As of this morning, no e-mail with the password.

UPDATE!

I tried registering using my gmail.com address and the password came through instantly.  It was there by the time I hit "register" and then clicked over to e-mail.  It actually arrived before I got the notice telling me a new user had registered.

Next step was to try again using my Cablevision (cable provider) address. That's the one that never came through last night.  Still not getting that one so I called Support at the cable company.   They had to disable something called SpamScrub and then had me try registering again.  It went through that time but McAfee sent it into the Spam filter.

So it seems that something in the automated password e-mail is getting caught up in my cable provider's spam filters and never even getting through to me.

Short of telling individuals or companies to disable or loosen up spam filters on e-mails, what can we do to make the automated e-mails go through?  Leo, I'm hoping now that the cause has been identified you can make some alterations to get the e-mails passed as "not spam."

ETA - SpamScrub is supplied to Cablevision by Brightmail which is part of Symantec - here's a link with more detail http://www.symantec.com/message-filter (http://www.symantec.com/message-filter)

I looked at the e-mail and there are nine links in it - an e-mail address I included in my welcome letter and my website in the signature (didn't realize that was also automatically added elsewhere) and 7 links as part of the automated process.  My guess is that the spam filter is triggering because of so many links.

I'm seeing 4 links to my site (at the top, in the copyright, the "about" link and again at the very bottom) in addition to the Symbiostock link, and the links to log in and license area.  Perhaps cutting down on the repetition of links that go to the general site, or "about" areas would help, along with a caution to avoid adding more links in the body of the e-mail.  I'll test a little later cutting out the two I included in the body of the e-mail to see if that gets through. Updated to add that taking those two extra e-mails out did not make a difference.  Still can't get through the spam blocker used by my cable provider.

When logged in as an admin, when you look at other peoples (clients) user profile, it still shows up the "Symbiostock Profile and Extended Network Info" section at the bottom of each user, but with the Admin user's details listed in the fields.

The clients can't actually see those fields, only the admin, but its pretty confusing to see your admin details listed underneath a clients user info.

I think we're mixing 2 different things - metadata here is the exif, xmp and iptc data in the image itself - not the meta description on a webpage

I edited those fields offlline and uploaded and got those results - it's the only way the data could have been obtained.  I haven't seen it occur again so it may have been a transient problem in processing a few versions ago

installed latest version and it looks good so far -- test sites that I had blocked are still blocked

however, it's really difficult to know who to promote, since the list is unsorted and I don't know who I already have in my network without paging back and forth -- how about indicating which sites are in your network on the marketing page? and also sorting the sites on that page alphabetically?

also is it explained anywhere just what promoting a site will do?

Still cannot get png's AND jpg's to appear on published page when uploaded together.

They both show up when going for processing
The sizes show up (as original default, not MY default) when editing
Only png's show up when published.

A couple of times managed to get both but not since

ok, here'sm y list

1. display all links sorted alphabetically
2. promote all extended sites  by default, then let owner turn them off
3. on search, randomly search the promoted sites until X sites are found.
4. as hooks, eg include the time it takes to do each network search so we have a better idea of what's possible - eg, now we're just guessing that 10 is a good number to search, but it may be that we can do more with only a little more processing time

in looking at the promoted keywords, I've realized that there's a big difference between what's promoted and what's actually being requested

eg, here are my most recent search queries:
how manay of these would be found in promoted keywords?  so it might be a better strategy to use long tail keywords since most traffic is going to be more specific.

 basalt cliffs 22    -  9.0
 battle of camden     -  150

Again, sorry if I have missed the discussion on this in the various threads....

What did we decide to do about the in-site search? The issue that if I add the phrase "new york" in my keywords, it isn't found by searching the words "new york", or "york". The only way I think it can be found from within the site search is by including the separate keywords "new" and "york" but that they throws up incorrect search results because the images aren't of "York"!!

Google searches these things OK, so external searches will find the right images, but it makes the site seem very unresponsive once you are actually there.

Yep, insite search needs addressing.

Also, I'm reposting this bit from another thread about SEO and selling direct...

This just makes getting Symbiostock PROPERLY responsive even more important.

Yep, it's almost there already, Leo's done 99% of the work, but there a couple of things that need doing asap.

On an iPhone (tested 3GS, and 4 models) the search bar in the header is never size adjusted properly, its not responsive.

see here for an example - http://www.woorank.com/en/www/thpstockphotos.com (http://www.woorank.com/en/www/thpstockphotos.com) - gives you a visual of how it looks on iphone and iPad.

The mobile menu implementation needs improving. We need the mobile menu to work WITHOUT having to put the menu in the site's footer which is very ugly.

Really think this needs to be counted as a bug or similar, as the site is so close to being good on a mobile device but just misses the mark in a few crucial areas. Mobile is the way of the future, so we gotta get this right.

Dublin core is experimental and not recognized by everyone - what part are you looking for that your not finding? Dublin core's main objective is to have machine-recognizable markup so it knows what your page is about.

Only one check per site? These places are rip-offs.

If you want to sense if dublin core is working or not, its on the image page that it kicks in:

http://www.clipartillustration.com/image/3d-green-fibonacci-pattern-abstract-sciencemathematicsenvironmental-concept/ (http://www.clipartillustration.com/image/3d-green-fibonacci-pattern-abstract-sciencemathematicsenvironmental-concept/)

If someone hasn't used up their 1-shot on that website, maybe you can see it at work in the above link - or not.

Here - if you want to check dublin core in action on your site, use this: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/addon/dublin-core-viewer/#id=528

You will see it on your image page and on your (experimental) datasheet page.

EDIT: The ONE place on your site where SEO matters, should be absolutely micromanaged, and held under a constant microscope is your image page. Everything else is just complementary.

ah of course, its not finding it on the front page cos its not there! Doh! Hopefully someone can try the image page, but I'm sure itll work.

Any thoughts Leo on finishing off the responsive side of things?

The responsive side of things ... small project. If you'd like to go through a quick run-through and find all the places that don't respond properly (you know, squash, collapse, etc) I (or someone) can give it a quick run-through towards the end.

But anyway Dublin core is working great ... just checked.

List of site elements that need correcting for fully responsive design: (if anyone else finds any, please add them! Please note this is all from looking at my Retina iPhone4 so will be different perhaps to iPad - can someone with an iPad make similar checks to add to this list?)

1. Header - All elements, including search box (REMOVE the image/blog drop down?) and search button
2. Menu - Need a responsive menu that doesn't have to be added in the footer of the theme. See an example on my other site http://www.microstockman.com (http://www.microstockman.com) on a mobile device and you will see what kind of a floating menu we could have. Also on my iPhone for some reason a large "Menu" word appears above the menu as a h1 tag I think. Ditch it.
3. Latest images, similar images & featured images widgets - center the images on screen, currently they are in a single column off center on all widgets.
4. Search results page - similar to number 3, images need centring as they are all in a single column
5. Search results page (http://thpstockphotos.com/?s=tree&post_type=image (http://thpstockphotos.com/?s=tree&post_type=image) ) - networked search results completely messed up, images overlapping each other, bunched up, squashed etc, author avatar and drop down not displaying nicely. This display needs a lot of work.
6. Image page - Author picture needs padding & centring when it falls under the Photographer Info drop down
7. Networked members widget & Page (http://thpstockphotos.com/symbiostock-network/ (http://thpstockphotos.com/symbiostock-network/) ) - avatar displays odly under the drop downs
8. Symbio Network Directory page (http://thpstockphotos.com/symbiostock-network-directory/ (http://thpstockphotos.com/symbiostock-network-directory/) ) - Author bio text overlaps each authors avatar badly, some avatars too big (user uploaded wrong one I'm guessing?) which throws off layout completely.

9. Not just a responsive issue, same on desktop, but when a ZIP file is available, the brackets around the Price Heading ( ( $US ) ) get screwy and one drops down to the next line. Can we just ditch the brackets all together?

10. Layout issue on desktop and mobile - http://thpstockphotos.com/search-images/new-zealand/ (http://thpstockphotos.com/search-images/new-zealand/) (choose a phrase or keyword that no-one else has to see the result) the images overlap the Symbio Extended Network box at the bottom

re pricng really needs bulk editing -- right now, once you have a few hundred images, the current repricing isn't of much use unless you want to reprice everything -- and even if you did it would mess up zip files which should always be in a separate area for repricing

so there's no way to experiment with different price points, etc

Can I make another suggestion...

Could we have a image search 404-type page available within wordpress so we can edit it how we like, rather than the hardcoded one that exists at the moment with the "No Results found. Try browsing the categories. Maybe you will find some hidden gems!" text.

I believe someone suggested a great option earlier about showing networked results on that page, which would be awesome. But at least using a wordpress editable search 404 would make it easier for everyone to be happy.

(edit - adjusted as I realised its not actually using the 404, theres an ACTUAL 404 for wrong URLs - NOT what I was talking about)

I had suggested it earlier & it's in the latest version -- searching for 'dachshund' on my site, there are no results - it shows my categories, then shows TInny's wiener dogs

http://hitvectors.com/ (http://hitvectors.com/)

Need more help read this article -

Please try the tips here and get back to me.

http://www.fastsecurecontactform.com/godaddy-email (http://www.fastsecurecontactform.com/godaddy-email)

Here is an update on the email issue for godaddy users.

Please carry out these tests - (I tried them and all negative)

1. Try to set up a user and see if it emails you.
2. Use your contact form to email yourself.
3. Deactivate the email plugin Symbiostock uses - then try the above (1 and 2).
4. Deactivate Symbiostock and activate a default theme and attempt to use *any* contact form (plugin) to email yourself.

For me every one failed on a godaddy test site. Please try and see if its the same for you.

100 images to a page -when searching via categories might be nice to have that option,

When using the searchbox  think  it would spoil the flow of the page, even though we do want clients to buy our images before those of network members  :)

Hi Leo. I ran all the tests you requested.

With Symbiostock fully active
1. No return email
2. Contact form got a Fatal error: Call to undefined function symbiostock_change_image_sizes() in /home/content/93/5238093/html/wp-content/themes/symbiostock/inc/rf-custom-post-functions.php on line 410

3. With Symbiostock email plugin deactivated I was able to register and received an email with the customer password but trying to use the contact form gave me the same error as above.

4.  Changed to a different non-symbio theme and my contact form (Plugin "Contact Form 7") was back to working just fine.

Hope that helps.

With further development (and more development help!) I hope to eventually take care of these needs that make Godaddy so special :D

I've done quite a bit of research. The fault of the theme's limitations on Godaddy are not 100% due to the theme itself. Any quality product should be flexible, and I hope Symbiostock becomes perfectly compatible in any situation. But godaddy throws quite a few curve-balls due to its system set-up. The below links explain a bit.

If I gave these Godaddy issues another month of dedicated work, I might fix them. But Symbiostock was made to run on hosting that handles these things standardly. I liken using Godaddy and similar hosts for photo-selling to be like using Microsoft Paint to edit photos and illustrations. Obviously anyone of our crowd could explain in depth why we don't use Microsoft paint to create professional imagery. A similar line of reasoning exists for e-commerce in photo selling.
In many ways we can call Symbiostock "stable" if it runs well in its preferred hosting environment. This is not to say we abandon all fixes and development for flexibility to low-end hosting. But this sort of bug-hunting requires that Symbiostock advance to a new level of priority where multiple developers can focus on individual tasks. Focusing on the quirks of cheap hosting (when Symbiostock repeadedly mentions its downfalls) will be enabling an unhealthy trend in its development.
If we can focus on expanding features instead of trying to be 100% flexible with sub-par hosting, Symbiostock will become a greater object of interest and attract development for these sorts of issues, solving the problem. Conversely if I halt progress to keep attending to these issues, Symbiostock will not advance, and the greater picture (and sales) is compromised.

So its a painful decision but Symbiostock must break through that threshold of development at the right time.

For the rest of this thread I'm going to address the theme issues that are inherent to the theme itself - not hosting. In the meantime, if you know anyone interested, we could certainly use help in the "flexibility" department :D.
Thanks guys.

EDIT:

It just occurred to me that the Godaddy owner has a house within 60 miles of me! If you guys wanna come down here we can camp outside his gate with our SS signs ... that might be a far more effective bug fix.

I need some help trying to get to the bottom of my issue where my home ISP (Cablevision) is blocking the incoming registration/password e-mail, stopping it at their firewall before it ever gets to my mailbox on their server.  I'm trying to narrow down what is causing the firewall to block the e-mails so I'm looking for a few testers with specific site qualities to help by doing some test registrations and I need a few specific sites I can test-register on to see if I get their e-mails.  Here's what I'm looking for:

1.) Someone using Cablevision as their ISP that will register at my site and let me know if they get the registration e-mail.

2.) Anyone using other ISP providers that will register at my site and let me know if they get the registration e-mail.

3.) Another site using Bluehost as their Symbiostock host.  I'd like to do a test registration on your site to see if your e-mail with password gets delivered to me.

4.) Another site NOT using Bluehost as their Symbiostock host.  I'd like to do a test registration on your site to see if  your e-mail with password gets delivered to me.

Here's what I've identified so far using two e-mail addresses - one where I've turned off SpamBlocker and one where it's turned on:

If I turn off the SpamBlocker filter on the e-mail account the registration e-mail comes through.  If I use the account with SpamBlocker the e-mail is stopped at the ISP firewall (never hits my mailbox so I never know it's there - not even when viewing my e-mails online via the web viewer.  It's lost in cyberspace spam prison)

Sending e-mail direct from my Bluehost account to my e-mail with SpamBlocker works when it's just a chatty e-mail and it worked when I sent my self an e-mail with 2 web address links included.  It may be the multiple links causing the problems.

It seems that something in the registration password e-mail is getting the incoming message trapped at the firewall.  I'm trying to identify what it is, hoping a small change to the auto-generated e-mail can be made.

Cablevision is said to be the 8th largest provider in the US and it's concentrated in the New York, New Jersey, Connecticut area, used heavily by individuals and businesses.  This could have a big impact on our network if anyone using Cablevision has trouble registering or getting e-mails generated by Symbiostock actions.

Please let me know if you test register and get the e-mails from my site or if I can use your site for a test registration.  My site is www.karensarragaphotography.com (http://www.karensarragaphotography.com)

Thanks for testing for me.  The good news is that others are getting their passwords.  The bad news is, I registered at Ajotte and Cathyslife and did not get my passwords.  The issue seems to be isolated to Cablevision's SpamBlocker firewall.  I'm going to ask some friends in the area who use Cablevision to test it and see if they get the password e-mails to see if it's just my e-mail or universal.  Then the trick will be to figure out how to get the password e-mails past the spam blocker.  I have a friend who's husband works for Cablevision in IT so perhaps he'll be able to give me some advice on this issue.

Not sure if a bug or not. Did a google search for "holiday home improvement", one of my images. google finds it in the top row. Yay! When I click on it, the big black box comes up in google. If I click Visit Page, it takes to me to a blog type page. Booo! I am attaching a shot of the blog type page and the sell page, where it should go. Look at the URLs. Somewhere, someone is adding royalty-free-content to my permalinks. Is SY adding that? How can I get rid of it? I am adding stock-photo- to the beginning of my permalinks, which is what I want. Note: not happening on all images. I tested three others and they were fine. I am going to test a couple more uploaded at the same time as this. edit: searched for others uploaded same time as this and they go to the correct page. Hmmm. Could it be something I did in an earlier version that has been retained? I have plans to disable that image and clean it up anyway. Just curious what is going on.

Thanks!  I tried two registrations - one to my e-mail with the spam filter activated and one with it turned off.  As expected, one was blocked and one went through.  It seems that spam filter firewall is the problem but most people don't even know it's a default option running in the background.

Your analysis seems very plausible.

But the main question still remains unanswered: What is it in our SY e-mails that trigger firewalls/spam filters? And how can that be fixed by changing the content/wording of those e-mails?

I think this is very important for us to solve.

Some more bug fixes! Plus we've added some new stuff for AJT and Cascoly by request. Simply update in your admin area. Or download the theme from www.Symbiostock.com (http://www.Symbiostock.com)
Quote
Important update. Please update quickly so AJT and Cascoly can keep experimenting with their search engine and network projects :D

As you may know, each  site has public info files at its root level:
    • symbiocard.csv
    • symbiostock_image_info.csv
    • symbiostock_keyword_info.csv
Now there is an XML version of each of these.

There are also a number of bug fixes.

One issue, I remember that I've reported it already:

- upload image with the same title, as one of already published,
- make it draft, but not publish,
- go to that old, published earlier image. Page will contain two images. First will be shown new image, with prices and working download button, and below will be that old image.
- publish new image, and everything will be ok, there will be separate pages now.

This is visible only to admin, but can be confusing :)
When other user or guest clicks on old image thumb, will see "not found", until that draft image will be published.

Issue with Pay Now button still exists:

- add two items to cart,
- go to cart,
- delete one item,
- click on "agree..."
- button is still inactive.

V 2.4.4, Justhost, Firefox, logged in as admin  edit:  Adding Win 7 as I think that made a different with some results as well

I don't get this problem - did not before when it was mentioned either - wonder why some are different

Put your logo and other images in folder somewhere outside symbio theme. You can also upload them as Wordpress images (Media->Add new) and paste their addresses into Symbio fields.

Update on the Cablevision/Optimum SpamScrubber blocking registration e-mails:

I spoke with a representative at Cablevision/Optimum today and they are escalating the issue to a senior team, trying to determine what is causing the e-mails to be blocked by their SpamScrubber.  I've requested that they try to come up with a universal fix that would allow all Symbiostock e-mails through.  My concern is that it's not only blocking the registration e-mail but once someone does get the password it might block the download response and other e-mails too.

They said that it may take 24 to 72 hours for a response so I'll update during the week when I hear more.

That's nice of them! I hope they come back with a clear answer to the question what is causing the e-mails to be blocked so Leo can change the e-mail accordingly. - We can't possibly ask every ISP and every anti-spam/firewall software company to do what Cablevision/Optimum is doing here.

I was very happy with how seriously they are addressing the problem.  They see it as an issue that potentially affects all of their customers so they need to fix it.  The IT guy at my day job said that they have one of the more aggressive and sophisticated spam filter systems so hopefully it's not something that will occur with other systems frequently.

When they get this figured out I will count this as my most satisfying Symbiostock moment to date - fixing a bug for Leo so he doesn't have to do it!  ;D

We're just uploading some RM pics to PictureMojo and linking from the image page to Alamy for purchase, via the referral links for the image, and setting 'Not live' to hide the file sizes and prices.

Unfortunately, these still appear in the Preview popup from the thumbnail pages. Can this be suppressed for 'Not live' images?

Nice bug. Speaking of bugs, what if we just put the SS ladybug pick over it? It will save me from having to do a larger fix to exclude those pics. Pagination as well as other things rely on it.

We don't want to hide the thumbs in the search results, just the file sizes and prices in the preview popup.

I've just done something very similar, based on your idea:

http://ajotte.com/image/gdansk-4/ (http://ajotte.com/image/gdansk-4/)

but I don't use "Not live" setting. Just when description contains tag with Alamy ref, price box is replaced by text box with link. I've deleted price table from popup. It is not there for all images. I don't see any side effect, and this table was not very useful :)

Agreed the product table is not really needed in the popup, so I've deleted it too. Also useful when that's done is to increase the popup size a little. I've added

Code: [Select]
.modal-body {
  max-height: 700px;
}

to style.css so no scroll bars any more. Login/Register is less cramped as well.

Thanks for the continued updates on bugs. This thread will be my last / main bug hunting thread since the main theme will not see many more changes (the improvements will now be child themes and plugins)

Anyway, thanks to CCSMedia (http://www.microstockgroup.com/profile/?u=52230) I can now spend quite a few more days on the godaddy bugs. In fact I'm going to rewrite the mail features to avoid using wordpress's mail and avoid any possible clashes that may be happening. Also thanks to CCSMedia I'm going to be working on a command line use of imagemagick if its find-able on your server - and that gives benefits of added color quality (still more) and better use of resources.

I'm also doing Christos' site besides CCSMedia, so I won't be around much
. Please help people as they continue to come into SY and go through the startup adjustments :D

As long as it's not serious I can wait.

I'm still working on that problem with the [email protected] e-mail SpamScrubber trashing the e-mails before they get to the mailbox.  I was able to confirm that it's not a blocked ISP causing the problem and I did get one through in a test by deleting the header and Symbiostock hyperlink images, and the little header at the top that had the links to my site and Symbiostock.  I think I may have deleted one or two links at the bottom as well.  I think the problem is just too many links.  I've had further conversations with the CS reps at Optonline and I'm trying to get them to do some test registrations and see the e-mail themselves to try and analyze it.  I suspect this could be a problem with the post-purchase e-mail too but I haven't gotten that far yet to be able to test it since I'm not getting the password.

Whenever you see "PHP_JPEG_Metadata_Toolkit" in the error description, that is one of two things -

1. Something "weird" in the file in regards to metadata is not agreeing with the script.
2. Its attempting to print / echo something when it shouldn't.

I'm going to see about repressing all errors since there are probably thousands of things that cause errors (dealing with metadata)

A small oddity I've just noticed: I've been going through the theme removing 'Royalty free' notices because we're also displaying RM pics.

When using the inbuilt all images page, as in http://www.picturemojo.co.nz/image/ (http://www.picturemojo.co.nz/image/) the preview and image page icons don't display on hovering on the thumbnails. All the code seems to be in the page, as with the keyword and category searches, but no hover icons.

Leo - an update on the e-mail issues I'm having with Optonline.net SpamScrubber blocking the e-mails for registration and purchases.  I've been working with their customer service to try and determine a cause and solution but I've managed to find something myself that seems to be the cause - it's the two Symbiostock links that are causing the blocks.

I tried forwarding a large variety of the registration letter and purchased file letter, disabling only one hyperlink, multiple variations on hyperlinks, only those at the very top in the header, only the images, my site image but not Symbio image, my links but not Symbio links, my links and one Symbio link... you get the picture.  The only e-mails that went through were those that had both hyperlinks to Symbiostock disabled.

They had initially referred me to a site where I could make sure my IP address wasn't blacklisted and it wasn't.  I don't know IP addresses in links would be picked up by their spam scrubber but if so, it could be that they are blocking your IP address in the links.  I'll be calling them to give them the findings to see if they have a solution short of removing the links.  It doesn't seem to be an issue of multiple links because when I remove all of mine and leave just the Symbostock links it still doesn't go through.

Only solution at this point seems to be removing the active links to Symbiostock in both all e-mails or if you could program something in the background that would send an alternate letter only if someone as @optimum.net as their e-mail extension.  Or maybe another button that says "click here if to resend your password" and have the alternate version of the e-mail sent.  That would solve the registration problem but we still have the issue of the "thank you for purchasing" e-mails being blocked due to the Symbiostock links.

Thanks you for that hard work. Very likely this will be an issue with others too. I'm working on the email system right now since CrackerClips has set me up in a good situation to do so. I'll remove any un-necessary links in the customer emails, and take some other measures to simplify.

That hard work of yours is actually going to  help very much. Thanks.

I have some more info that may be helpful:
Optonline service reps said that if the site hosting your linked site is blacklisted the spamblocker could be picking it up in the link.  They use these two services to determine IP's to block so it may be worth checking to see if for some reason your IP is blocked.
http://cbl.abuseat.org/lookup.cgi (http://cbl.abuseat.org/lookup.cgi)
http://www.spamhaus.org/ (http://www.spamhaus.org/)

Also ran across this referencing blocked e-mails with optonline.net.   This seems to be more with the sending e-mail, not links in the e-mail, but perhaps it will yield a clue or two to let you keep an active link in the e-mail.  https://github.com/rfay/pals/issues/3 (https://github.com/rfay/pals/issues/3)

I have just noticed something, not sure if bug or intentional.

If you do a network search and someone has a lot of results, it does not matter how many there are, only four "pages" show up then it cycles back to the beginning.  If you want to see more you have to click on the page number boxes.

I was searching AJT's site to see how the network wide link worked.
Title: Re: 100% Stability. Lets fix the final few bugs. The Final Bug Stomping Thread+
Post by: ajt on June 21, 2013, 15:39
It is intentional. When you are browsing your local results, one page contains 24 images. In network results there are the same pages, but now 24 images per page are presented in 4 cycles 6 images each. So you see 24 images too, but sliding. Next page=next 24 images and so on.

Thanks for reporting these things guys. After I recover from the flood of tech issues I've had (right down to my hourly computer crashes) I should get my productivity back and refine the rest of these things. In the meantime, thanks for your patience and helping one-another :D

BTW - even though I had a plan for datasheets, I'm going to kill them and simplify a bit. I want to go through and actually refine much of this stuff, and simplify.

Earlier (http://www.microstockgroup.com/19606/19606/msg322421/#msg322421) in this thread I posted a bug in which I could only add one item to the user's cart and when I went to the file management area and deleted the item from the cart I got "Please log in to view your cart."  This is not a bug.  I do not understand it completely, but I think it has something to do with how I setup my wordpress URL (Setting->General:  "Wordpress Address") and my browser.

On my site, any interaction I made with a page once it was done loading occurred as though I was logged out.  For example, if I was on an image page and selected a size option the option highlighted properly, but the total in the green "Download" button was for the selection price, only.  If I selected a different size I would get the "Login/Register" overlay.

The fact that I use HTTPS Everywhere is Firefox and have an SSL certificate on the web site may have caused trouble for me.  My Wordpress address used http:// and so I think between that and my browser add-ons something was getting messed up.  Changing my Wordpress URL from http://... to https://... solved the problem.

So, no bug.

Edit:  the problem was not dependent on the add-ons in my browser as I was using different browsers to test the site.  I still do not understand exactly what was happening, but using the correct URL did the job.

the double entry bug is back -- newly uploaded, for image [url]http://cascoly-images.com/pix/image/western-tanager-2/[/url] ([url]http://cascoly-images.com/pix/image/western-tanager-2/[/url])   I get
-----------
Western Tanager (Piranga ludoviciana)  male eating fruit in a tree,  Malheur National Wildlife Refuge, Oregon

Western Tanager (Piranga ludoviciana)  male eating fruit in a tree,  Malheur National Wildlife Refuge, Oregon
------------------------
it's taking 2 different pieces of exif info: the first is from xmp-description, the second from iptc caption-abstract

my guess is it's supposed to use the second value if the first is blank, but instead it's using both

I get this occasionally and I think it only occurs in images with and ampersand in the description or title.
Just an observation of the images it occurred on in the latest batch uploaded last night.

no special characters for mine, other than the parens, in ay other the cases I've found

the fact that the data comes from 2 different fields in the exif implies something amiss in the way te desc is extracted (it's not evident in this example, but for a test I had slightly different texts in the 2 fields mentioned above, and both were copied to the sym desc area)

I just did a test I uploaded the same image 3 times
Image 1 without any special characters is perfect.
Image 2 with an & in the Title  repeats the title..
Image 3 with an & in the title and description repeats both fields.

I came across an interesting bug that I noticed because one of my image pages showed two different images - one under the other.

I think this is how it occurs:

I have a number of images that have exactly the same title. Symbio changes the slug after the first one to add "-2" etc. If I upload just a few of those images, and then later upload the rest, then everything is fine - the slugs are still incrementally modified so you don't have a clash.

However - and this is now a bit of conjecture - if I change the title of the image in Symbio, but leave the slug as it is, and then upload similar titled images later, it reuses the original slug name. Then you get two slugs with the same name and the double image page.

Make sense - is that how it works?

maybe we've discovered multiple tiny bugs, since the example I showed doesn't have any spec characters - but it does show that symbio is pulling the desc from 2 different pieces of metadata

Seem to have found a little bug...

While logged in as the Admin, go to view any other users profile in the Wordpress dashboard. You will see under their standard data that your Extended Author Info shows up underneath their profile (weird and confusing, but not the bug - although would be great to stop it doing that!).

Make a change to anything in their profile and save the changes. Now when you go to an image page on the front end of your site, or your author page, the little Bio text that shows up next to your avatar disappears. Well, it does for me anyway. I've tried it a couple of times and each times I have to go back to my profile and re-save it to get that data to display properly again.

Could it be that in the additional author info showing up under each user when logged in as the author, it is actually saving that data to that user, thus making it not display?

I've just had that EXACT same problem for the first time, two images showing up on the same page. I think you might be onto the reason for it.

I've got some bizarre stuff happening with search at the moment, can anyone else confirm?

on my site, thpstockphotos.com do a search for "vector" (no ""). A few of my selected network partners that have this keyword, such as LEO don't show up. Weird.

Do a search on Leo's site for vector, 600+ results.

Also, it's stopped doing it now but the first couple of tests I did on this had AJT's Global Search coming up first in my list of results (under me) even though I don't have it as a selected network partner. It was above the ones I HAVE selected.

Maybe you've searched for "vector" for the first time, when Leo's site had problems, nothing showed up, and this result is hold in cache all the time. Go to network page and enter 1 as cache days (now there is no possibility to switch it off). Maybe results from Leo's site will be back.
My search is in your extended network and has promoted keywords like "images, photos, vectors", so it is searched.
Maybe I should do some changes in code, to show it always as the last.

Just stumbled across this bug.
If there are two images with the same Title
When you click on one the single image page opens up with both images

Edit to add - just discovered that the top image is still in drafts - not published yet.

Slugs are identical

I did publish the top image with changes made to the Title and Description etc., and the problem is solved.
(The slugs remain the same).

I'm not sure if anyone else pointed this out, I noticed some of my keywords with multiple words gets no result when I click on the keyword, for example the page below when I click on my image keyword "jack-o-lantern", I get "No results found on this site.", those keyword also indexed by google together with the word No results found... showing as description which is not good.

Problem is known (I hope), I wrote about it few days ago. These two images are visible one under another only when you are logged as admin. Guests and other users don't see them at all (clicking on thumbnail of earlier published image leads to "page not found".

See first part of my reply in this thread:
http://www.microstockgroup.com/symbiostock-development-area/100-stability-lets-fix-the-final-few-bugs-the-final-bug-stomping-thread/msg323591/#msg323591 (http://www.microstockgroup.com/symbiostock-development-area/100-stability-lets-fix-the-final-few-bugs-the-final-bug-stomping-thread/msg323591/#msg323591)

Draft image gets unique slug (-2, -3) when image is published. When there are two images with the same title, first published earlier, second draft, titles will be the same until publishing the second image. And when second image stays draft, first image is not visible to visitors.

Thanks Steve, received your registration mail but this is quite useless in case you do not receive your password!

This is too bad since registration is useless at this point in time. Maybe change it so that the user can define his own password upon registration?

Franky - moved across to the other thread. I tested your site - no email

Steve

I registered at three different sites and got the following emails immediately:

      franky242 photography
DavidW - Your username and password for http://franky242.net/shop (http://franky242.net/shop)

      cathyslifeStockPhotos
DavidW - Your username and password for http://cathyslifestockphotos.com (http://cathyslifestockphotos.com)

      Backyard Stock Photos
DavidW - Your username and password for http://www.backyardstockphotos.com (http://www.backyardstockphotos.com)

All came with passwords.  Very strange.

There may be an issue with the ISP if you have in-network Spam prevention turned on, but the main issue appears to be that the applications are waiting 45 minutes or so to send some emails. I don't think the ones I am seeing have been delayed by the ISPs

Another piece of intelligence.

I just got the email from my own site showing that Christine had registered on my site - again, created 42 minutes ago. So it isn't just the emails to the new subscriber that are occasionally being delayed - the system seems to randomly delay all the emails due for sending. So this could explain the issues seen before about no email with the download link that I remember being raised.

Steve

Update: and the email announcing the registration from ajt just arrived - 42 minutes late.

Interesting - there seems to be a burst of emails at around the 40 - 45 minute point. I just received another one. I am still missing some passwords, so perhaps there is going to be a later time activity as well.

I wonder if there are any timers that clear out old email requests at the 40 minute point?

Ok
I went into our Cox acct and changed the SpamBlocker settings on my wife's email
From:
Delete incoming junk email automatically. This setting will remove junk email before it reaches your inbox.

To:
Tag junk email with -- Spam -- in the subject line and deliver to your inbox.

I deleted her acct on my web site and re-registered her.
She got the email and password within seconds.

edit: it wasn't marked as spam, either

I think I have all of mine now - some are not prettily formatted, I think when I disabled the symbiostock email plugin.  Steve, as you have the most comprehensive list do you want to edit it to add hosts as well to see if there is a pattern?  Mine is Justhost

The last one I did as site owner I got message at 16.08, as potential client it arrived at 17.19 .

Off topic but I visited my cPanel for the first time in a few weeks and they seem to think I am using rather a lot of space !

Hi guys...finally at a computer. Have to take day off today.

I'm going to make a cookie system responsible for all of this, make email woes a thing of the past. Should be done by friday if everything goes well - though I may delay the release to get some other bugs worked out and a few analytics features added.

After 3 hours I got email from Franky's site. It was attached to spam report, stating that it:

- has link to third party domain (symbiostock.com)
- has url in subject
- contains html code
- contains external image

and some other things. These all qualify message as spam with probability over 50%. I had spam filter on my server set to 50%, so it was trapped. Now I've set it to 100% :)

And cookie-cart would be great :)

That is SO stupid. Basically you can send an email as long as it looks lame, does not point the user anywhere (like to files) and as far as I know is not very long. Oh, and no images.

Sorry to add to your list Leo, but is it possible to capture an email just before the checkout / download. Maybe generate a report inside of Wordpress?

Two reasons - one as they may need some kind or receipt of purchase - secondly for marketing so we can build a client base.

Leo,  is there anything different in the Symbio link and pic that would trap it in the spam filters?  When I delete those but leave my image link and text links it went through ok in my testing.  Could you try eliminating your links from the registration letter and download letter for a few days so we could test without it to see the impact. At least we could still function until it is fixed if that turns out to be the cause across the board. That was definitely what caused the problem for me.

OK, not a bug, but if Leo is going to do one last major release, would it be possible to display the results of a search against a keyword on my site in the opposite order? At present it displays the most recent images first. I've been going through my files adding the ones that I think are most likely to sell first and as I have moved deeper into my portfolio, I'm now adding good, but perhaps not as great, images. If you search on a keyword, you see my less good images on the first page as a result.

here's another example of bad desc -- this time it's created the desc from THREE different pieces of exif info:

Panorama - Basalt cliffs and talus from ancient lava flow,      Crooked River Canyon,   Central Oregon

SONY DSC

the 'sony dsc' is put there by the camera (it's originally also in the iptc but get's replaced when I add meta data)

when I processed, then edited this, I got error msg:

hey leo this sounds great, instant purchases instead of forced signups, i love it!

Was just thinking, some browsers etc are clamping down on cookies these days aren't they? Could it be made so that if a users settings don't allow cookies, symbio recognises this, tells the user what is happening and then tells them that due to their settings they need to sign up (as in, keep the current email system as a backup - not remove it entirely) to complete checkout?

I could be way off, just a thought

Leo,

Are you sure it didn't go through?  Yes I know that purchase confirmation email does not go to the customer but they must be able download the file in their customer area..

If they couldn't download the files, I would have received complaints via contact form.. I have had a number of actual sales and I find it impossible that nobody complains..

Try going to the download area and see if you can download the file..

Btw, as this was a test purchase I will return the money in earliest convenience.. next time if you intend to make a test purchase let me know so I can make the price 0, 01 or something :)

Today my site tripped up a few sales as well, so I have a chance to see what random factors are causing issues. All this time I was under the impression you could not even get a download to work! I wish I knew that, I would probably have a little less stress on the issue!

If a buyer doesnt get a password email, or a purchase email, i dont think they will realize that they can download an image. This all has to work the way it says it works. I hope this fix is priority one, too. I havent added any plugins for awhile so i dont think its a plugin problem. I have been making test purchases all along and they worked ok. If i had to guess i would say it has happened since my last theme update, but thats just a guess based on my timeline.

In my case customers are getting the password email because I disabled the symbiostock email plugin..

But they can't get the confirmation email.. they obviously downloaded the files successfully in their download area because I haven't received a single complaint.. and I had enough sales to be able to judge this..

Leo I get your post as you were able to download the file in your customer area.. right?

The problem is intermittent tho. I had a sale on june 21 but i dont think i can say definitely that all was working well then...i can only say that all must have been working well for that particular person. I have had other legit registrations with no buys...maybe it didnt work for them? No way to know.

I am not ruling out any issues but sometimes people register just for the sake of registering..

I have had legitimate registrations without purchases too but I am sure people would contact me using the contact form letting me know that they can not purchase..

When people want to pay for an image it is because they really need that image and they will contact you if they are having issues..

I am not worrying about it, but I agree that it should all work smoothly as you stated.. I am sure Leo will sort it out eventually..

Leo, I have made a purchase on your site to return the test purchase you have made on mine.. along the way I have ran into issues..

Here is my buying experience on your site..

- I  have signed up using Internet explorer (windows vista)
- received the password without a problem and completed registration..
- selected an image, and tried to add it to my cart..
- download button was highlighted and the price was reflected there but when I clicked on the "download" button and proceeded to cart there was nothing in my cart..
- tried different files, different sizes, but definitely wasn't able to add anything to my cart..
- I gave up internet explorer because it was impossible to add anything, and make a purchase..
- tried the same in chrome, and this time I made a successful (!) purchase.. made the payment, went back to the site.. the item was still in my cart..
- refreshed the page, tried to leave and return to customer area but the item was still in the cart, and NOT in the download area below..
- removed the item from the cart and tried to refresh again with no success..
- left the page, returned, but the item was still NOT in the download area..
- logged in on firefox, internet exporer and chrome again, but no success..

so, to summarize, the payment went through, but I couldn't download the file.. (It is not a problem for me.. my intention was only to return the money but it was a bad experience if I was an actual customer)

I will let you know if the file appears in my download area at a later time..

Four of the nine show up in All Images

Reuploaded one without keyword/title/description and they have gone though this time.  When I uploaded the others were there in the processing area again but resulted in

WP-Super cache was working on the customer page. Stupid me. Check in again soon. Today I'm working on some overall fixes.

Today I'm going to make a cart manager plugin which will be useful even beyond the bug days. You will be able to manage carts and customer downloads as an administrator. Its an upgrade, and will be the usual $15.

This will be a feature to allow customer service. For instance if you like a customer or want to give them a deal, you can assign an image to their dl section after purchase. You can also apply carts as downloadable if there was an uncontrolable error (like your site went down during their checkout process) etc.

Leo is there any progress about the email issue?

Btw, can that plugin solve following problem if it occurs:

- customer pays for the image and I see the payment in my paypal..
- but there is no image in their customer area to download..

As I am not receiving a confirmation email;

- I can not see which of my images was purchased
- and who purchased the image (unless it matches the paypal email)

For example I can see that you made a purchase on paypal but I don't know which user account is yours as I had another registration at about the same time you registered..

Hi cidepix -

The email issue will be solved when I recreate the messaging system.

If your curious -

This is how the message system presently works:

It uses wordpress's email functions natively. It does some complicated operations to toggle between html and text communications.

How it will work:

Going to use a better PHP class. Going to give option to use HTML and how many links to provide. Going to follow the research you all did on what constitutes spam.

If godaddy still doesn't work with emails after that...can't do much more.

That will hopefully be next right about the time I'm doing the cookie cart. So much to do...

Can you please answer my question? Will the theme be fixed or will we all have to pay for the plugin in order to get the emails to work correctly? Thanks

Email will be fixed in its own update (typical update your used to).

Carts manager plugin is for managing carts. Two separate things. Email will be managed in the theme without purchasing anything.

A plugin should upgrade and enhance features. It would be silly of me to sell plugins as bug fixes :D

Items still in your cart, and not in your download area?
Wait a few seconds and refresh the page. Sometimes paypal takes a few minutes to notify us. If you still have problems, please contact us.

still get this after a test buy -- 1/2 hour later no change -- altho the paypal confirmation email came thru right away

log out, log back in, message is gone, but still no download link

also, the pay now button lights up when I click agree, even tho the cart is empty

I think it would be silly too, but you have put a lot of work into this project and I wouldn't blame you if you had to start charging. I was just asking the question so I would know how to fix the problem. Mostly, that's what I am concerned with, not with $15.00 for a plugin. Thanks for the answer.

I am just waiting for the original theme to settle down and not have bugs before I start adding more plugins.   :D

Its a balance for me - the theme is actually running quite well, so its safe to add plugins so the main developer doesn't go broke resulting symbiostock dev grinding to a hault or worse - dissolving.

In fact, the main issues are really in fact just two issues...(downloads, email) which means that we're very close the the end of any major problems.

The main thing delaying these fixes unknown to most people was an entire month of technical issues I've dealt with behind the scenes of hourly computer crashes, server issues, etc - unrelated to development, which has horribly crippled my overall productivity.

So anyway, thanks for your patience.

Leo,

I'd be happy to see Symbiostock to come out of Open Source and pay for a stable version so you can continue to develop the theme and plugins.

Two things I would pay for straight away:
1: Main theme - stable version with the cart working instantly, securely and with a customer email capture + extended licences option.
2: Plugin - Image manager plugin so large portfolios can be uploaded and organised.

Would be a real shame to see this project dissolve when its come so far and gaining traction.
I don't want to see you go broke developing this project, I'd rather you monetize Symbiostock so it grows into something special.
The timing is perfect for it to take off.

Thanks for the support as always! The base theme will always be free. Thats what makes it soo cool. :D Plugins/upgrades will be my (and other developers) way of profiting hopefully. The beginning is the hard part...but its almost over.

Just an update: There is NO doubt that the process gets sabotaged somewhere in paypal's IPN, and the mail functions are inconsistent based on hosting - or not? .

Today I'm making progress! :D I think simplifying a few things in a few areas and doing a little extra validation will help immensely.

Good news - I've discovered what just may be THE problem killing random sales -

Wordpress blocks php files from being called directly (by visiting paypal_ipn.php)... which gives a 404 instead of the actual script which handles the transaction. It seems the rules are applied randomly...

So I've fixed it by moving the IPN to a folder in the root directory. Release tonight :D

2.4.5

http://www.symbiostock.com/symbiostock-2-4-5-email-and-paypal-bugs-fixed-important-update/ (http://www.symbiostock.com/symbiostock-2-4-5-email-and-paypal-bugs-fixed-important-update/)

Please note: Do not simply "update" but update then turn the theme (or child theme) off then on one time. This runs the installer which fixes some things.

Also its worth noting that on Godaddy I got both confirmation and registration emails sent to me. That means its sending - if problems persist its probably due to spam filtration, which we can address separately.

Paypal_ipn.php is in new folder, but path in settings still points to old folder, deep in theme. Is this path still in use, or in transaction time, Symbio points to new one?

Problems with new update

Using Firefox

Updated quite a few times kept getting white screen - had to go in via another window as did not return to theme page
Childtheme (mine) eventually loaded, as above
Adding new page - goes to white screen

Edit:
On plus site - like new exclusive button
Registered with Ajt and got email immediately

Deactivation 2.4.6 and then reactiviting did not help.  Republished the home page, no change.

Any suggestions?

All working for me with 2.4.6.

On the Spam question - we don't we strip out all the links from the registration emails - there are tons of them in there, repeats of the site URL, the customer management bit (when they haven't even registered yet), Symbiostock (why at this stage?). I think a very simple email saying here is the password and here is the login page is all that is needed.

Yes, great job Leo.. I posted this on another thread as a workaround, about the refresh issue:

Instead of refreshing the page, there could be a button saying "download your file" with a link re-sending people to the download area..

This will disguise refreshing process while functioning the same way as refreshing..

I read too many issues with everything at the moment, I will wait for 2.5 to be released when everything is sorted.

It has me worried tho, that the bugs are hurting the SY roll out and potentially losing a lot of buyers when they arrive at nothing but buggy sites, and the most important part, the checkout is not working.

Emails and download processes all working great from my tests.  There are two things that I've found that need to be addressed. One of them major.

Minor one first, (if you're not logged in or haven't registered yet) when you find an image you want to download and click on the size button next to the size image you want, a pop up comes up asking you to login or register.  After finishing registration at this point you are taken to the customer file area but the image you wanted to buy is not in your cart because you never put it there.  Kinda confusing. You have to go back and find the image again and add it to cart.  I don't think you should be asked to login or register until you hit the download/add to cart button.  This would put the image in your cart then the pop up asking to register or login could appear.

The second issue is bigger.  I've done two test purchases of different images of ours and upon downloading the image I see that ALL metadata has been striped out.  The metadata for the image is completely blank, copyright unknown, etc.  Even the color space of the image isn't known anymore.

We've been dealing with agencies that have striped out our metadata for so long.  We just can't do this to our own images!  What are the technical issues involved?

2.4.7
A fix with image download that may happen on some hosting. Similar to the paypal fix. You will have to "toggle" the theme again.

Ron - I don't know what in particular your looking at but 2.4.6 and definitely 2.6.7 are an improvement over the version your using.

Also its becoming a bit of a game to see how fast people can post bugs...it tends to be intimidating for others. I just consider it helpful in making this thing bulletproof. In the meantime it appears the successes reported are vastly outweighing the few issues being reported (like those people learning which paypal account they should use).

edit -

You mean upon download purchase download? Let me look into it. Maybe that has yet to be done. My main priority was getting the web ones locked down with IPTC.

Edit 2 -

Your using GD Library. Imagemagick will apply the file info. Let me try to put in a little more support for GD in the download area. Generally 80% of people (I assume) should see image meta here.

Edit 3 -

Looked deeper into it -

When an image download occurs the image is dynamically resized and delivered straight to the customer. This saves you space. Applying metadata to the temporary object is not possible right now. Basically getting imagemagick support should be a HUGE priority for anyone with Symbiostock. I understand you have a hosting situation which does not make this easy, so hopefully we can find the solution with your case soon.

Ah, so GD Library is the culprit.  The poor image quality of GD Library has been keeping me from continuing to upload images and getting to the point where I can turn on the network.  Now it's also doesn't support metadata!  I shake my fist at you GD Library :)  (Not very menacing with a smiley face eh?)

Thanks Leo for figuring out the problem!  I'm glad it isn't effecting anyone with access to imagemagick.

there have been very few new bugs introduced as the testing has gone on -the remaining ones are mostly those that have persisted for awhile.  so the latest version is the best to use

Paypal...You are making a smartass remark to a legitimate question...one that has just come up in the last couple of days while we are all trying to find out why emails are not working now, when they were before. If paypal is a factor, i would appreciate an explanation about it. Thanks.

When I try to load 2.4.7 I get the following:

Unpacking the package…

Installing the theme…

Destination folder already exists. /home2/quailru2/public_html/wp-content/themes/symbiostock/

Theme install failed.

The child theme is active and the Symbiostock 2.4.6 is inactive.

Suggestions?

Yes, when I do an upload using the zip file, I activate one of the other themes, then delete the main symbio theme, then do the upload via the zip file, then activate the Symbio theme, finally activate the child or clean theme. I think Leo said to go through a deactivate cycle one more time after that

Sounds like you didn't do the delete step. (although this may only refer to uploading via a zip file)

right, looks like there was a need to run the install again on this upgrade, so the normal, easier procedure wouldn't work.  if you don't delete the older version wp wont let you install the new one

2.4.8

See this post:
http://www.symbiostock.com/2-4-8-another-paypal-improvement-traffic-tracking-system-born/ (http://www.symbiostock.com/2-4-8-another-paypal-improvement-traffic-tracking-system-born/)

AJT and Plrang and Cascoly have been wanting to track traffic. We've just implemented a very simple and possibly very complete system to monitor where your getting your traffic from. Thanks guys!

When you click, the link appends ?r=thewebsite

Also they can see how many exclusive images you have - which as you probably know are nicely decorated with a big EXCLUSIVE sign now :D

On a very positive note, I think we're seeing the most stable version yet, and from here on its just minor details.

I will not be changing the theme itself much more, but you will be able to choose what you expand onto it with modules.

I'll be leaving this bug thread open as we continue to address the last things. I hope everyone profits in the near future especially as the your SEO and hard work pay off in time with the changing seasons of Microstock.

Not a bug but something that can cause a LOT of work if you get it wrong which is easy to do.

The Symbiostock Bee author options

I selected the Exclusive of the non exclusive/exclusive option a while ago in the hope that it would become the default as I was intending to only upload exclusive for the foreseeable future.

Days later I adjusted the prices and did a global change, unfortunately for me it changed ALL my images to all the default options resulting in all my images being listed as exclusive (so I have been on a major deleting spree elsewhere today so as to leave them that way).

Is it at all possible please for each change option to have it's own "save" button  at some point?

Same with assigning categories. You can bulk assign a category, but if you tick the wrong box, you need to go back one by one to untick the wrongly assigned category.

Also a more advanced bulk edit still needed

Hard to say if its a bug - the system recognizes the "." as a separator between the file name and file type. I may be able to improve it in the future though so it uses some depthier ways of recognizing files. Thanks for mentioning.

Thats a good idea - reading the first occurrence of a dot reading from right to left. Also PHP has some file recognition classes but experimenting with them I'm not sure they offer a big advantage.

Does anyone else use the large latest image slider on their front page - not sure if it is a co-incidence but it does not seem to update with latest images for the last couple of days (on laptop or tablet).  Yesterday I deleted it, changed front page template and then reinstalled it before it would start, today I am going to wait and see.  It should have Christmassy type illustrations for at least the next 12 hours or so.

If any of you are using wp-super-cache it will not reflect your changes right away. Other than that, are you referring to them not updating in your admin screen? After you push "save?"

The only change I made to the site was adding super cache.
(the only thing I added to the Super Cache code was the line for  the customer-licence-and-file-management-area/)

But because of this problem I disabled Super Cache and the Widgets still wouldn't save and update.
I did find that if I went to pages clicked update for the Home page the widget changes showed up.

And before you PANIC "Oh no! There is a filtering system! There goes the town!" please study it first and understand it does not require any action on your part right now.

I'm going to save the tutorial for later. For now you can just update and see if anything blows up.

I haven't written a tutorial yet, but once you click the "Update public image info" box and save, it will update everything with a rank 2 level. Then when you choose something to be rank 1, it will compare against everything else.

When people update, within 24 hours all of their images will be updated with a base 2 rank unless they are impatient they can simply push the update info button.

I am not sure what I have done, I have clicked and prodded in different places.  The search still seems a bit "buggy" but I can't put a finger on what is going on.... maybe it just takes time to settle down.

One of the problems is "Rank" didn't stick and got reset to 2.

If people want to check their setting if you search for "bath"  the lady sitting in the tub is 1st but Red, the lady standing is 2nd but yellow.

So if your set to green neither of these images should show up.... yellow, lady standing, Red lady sitting

I'm seeing the same random order results.  Seems like the rank is over-riding the publish date.  I'd like to see a way for them to work together if possible.  Manipulating the publish date lets you move seasonal items to the front.

ETA, update seems to be performing just fine.  I'm getting expected search results and the two images I tested with a #1 rank were promoted to the top spots.

Leo,

I had this error message when processing images with v2.4.8:
Fatal error: Call to a member function get_error_message() on a non-object in /home2/aseanpho/public_html/wp-content/themes/symbiostock/inc/classes/image-processor/symbiostock_image_processor.php on line 1127

I upgraded to 2.4.9 but still the same message, any idea?

Laurent

That is happening here:

Code: [Select]
if ( in_array( 'jpg', $info[ 'extensions' ] ) ) {

if(!file_exists($dir . $file_name . '.jpg') ){
$this->error = true;
echo '<br />';
$error = $image->get_error_message();
echo 'There was a problem with the file...';
return;
}

Send the file to leo at symbiostock . com so I can fix it for next release?

Its either IPTC or a file name thing.

Just an update:

If I can release latest version tonight, we have some new stats available in Symbiocard (ajt, cascoly, plrang will be curious)

rank_1_images
rank_2_images
rank_3_images

{total of each}

(As you know, these only refer to which images take front seat in your local. Its not a status symbol. So if you have 500 images, and all 500 are rank 1, then you might as well have 500 rank 2 or 3 images.)

rating_0_images
rating_1_images
rating_2_images
rating_3_images

{total of each}

keywords
{total}
categories {total}

filter_level{0-3}
allow_unrated{1 or 0}

alexa_popularity
alexa_rank
alexa_reach
alexa_links_in
alexa_speed

This will help VERY MUCH in being able to
A: Create intelligent databases (like AJT and Cascoly are doing)
B: Help people discover how the individual sites are performing.

Also 404's coming from compound tags have been fixed. HOWEVER compound-keywords are still not found in human searches.

Hi Leo, is there any way to get that fixed? I rely heavily on compound keyword searches for 25% of my portfolio.

I have you in mind for that. I spent a good portion of the day on it before I gave up due to having to make a function that made too many requests on the database.

If your curious as to why this happens this way - we get a choice:

Search for a number of terms in an AND operation:

Example: Rhode Island

What happens: Look for the terms Rhode AND Island.

Example: Man Running Fast

What happens: Look for the terms Man AND running AND fast.

So if you have separate terms "Rhode" and "Island" you get found. If you (as you know) have compound terms "Rhode Island" being one term, you get skipped, because the program splits your search terms by default, making them separate.

To skip a LOT of details right now, we have a choice:

AND or OR as a basis for search. If I try to retain your original query (Rhode Island) and search also for "Rhode" and "Island" we will get nothing, because we are in fact searching for THREE terms, and its unlikely all those terms exist in any one image. I

Now in the world of databases there are far better ways to do this. BUT WORDPRESS does not put much priority on search, so their database, although lightning fast, makes a lot of constraints that are almost impossible to break out of without breaking the rules, like doing too many separate queries.

The SOLUTION is to build a SEPARATE database for Symbiostock, which has a structure optimized for searching TITLES, DESCRIPTION, and KEYWORDS as well as word fragments. THEN it must take these results and still play well with wordpress. I had this on my first website, and it worked great.

What are we looking at to do this? Basically time to write it, and then making the transition seamless by putting it into the installer, and then writing in safeguards to verify your images get updated properly - even if you have thousands. And its perfectly possible to make the system not interfere with what we already have.

This is probably a very good idea, but right now I'm forced to take a more well-rounded approach to development - this operation will be quite intensive but its in the plan. For now what we've done is stopped the 404's on your tag pages, which is very good.

Thank you for explaining Leo. It does have me worried a lot though, as is now, my rhode island flag, or new york flag, or south dakota flag, or wicklow mountain images are not found unless I split up the keywords.

It means I need to split up New York Flag in New and York and Flag which is going to return a lot of garbage results when a buyer searches my site for York which is a different city and I dont have any of York, instead they will find the New York flag then. Which is not related to what they are looking for.

For example, if I split up Rhode Island Flag to Rhode and Island and Flag, then the keyword Rhode doesnt make sense, and when they search for an Island it will bring up the Rhode Island flag.

I had no idea WP was so limited on the search as for blogs compound keywords are used as well.  Search is the heart of a site when selling images, if the search doesnt work, buyers will leave. Which defeats the whole purpose of Symbiostock.

Anhoo, the only way to bring up my images is to split the keywords, and take the garbage search results on the chin.

Post by: Leo Blanchette on July 05, 2013, 02:06
I could implement a search for compound keywords like "Rhode Island" but then it would reject all other AND searches, making "Rhode Island Flag" not show up. Its a horrible situation. I just have to make a database. In the meantime though you can greatly supplement this by your categories and on-site advertising of them.
Title: Re: 100% Stability. Lets fix the final few bugs. The Final Bug Stomping Thread+
Post by: Ron on July 05, 2013, 02:23
Buyers hardly use categories. If they cant find Rhode Island flag, then they leave. Probably never come back, and tell the other buyer, that my site sucks.

Google will pick up on the phrases, no problem there, but a site search could result in 25% of my images never to be found. Thats a big chunk.

When I read articles on Google about keywording for Word Press they all suggest to use keyword phrases, so I dont understand why the search cant work like that on Word Press, but thats just my own technical limitation to understand how a search engine works.

So all I can do now is go back and split up all my phrases.

Please understand, I am not blaming anyone, just expressing my concerns. You did a great job.  :)

Its even worse http://semmickphoto.com/?s=new+york+city+flag&post_type=image (http://semmickphoto.com/?s=new+york+city+flag&post_type=image)

New York City Flag - four words

New and York and City and Flag. I shoot many images in Dublin, which are tagged with city, including all my Chicago, st Louis and London images.

A buyer looking for New York City Flag, will be presented with all my city images, including New York state flag and all my other city flags, the image he is looking for is buried somewhere between a hundred images when the search result should bring up only ONE image.

Not so. Thats an OR operation. AND would be "new" AND "york" and "city" and "flag" ... so only the images sharing those keywords get chosen. Thats how it is now.

I have an idea - a small compromise.

I'll make a small script for the Genetics Lab plugin I made and give it to you. It will take all of your compound words, SPLIT THEM, and add new ones to the original set and RETAIN the original compound word for future use.

If you like that I can set that up for you tonight.

My Wordfence plugin shows today a bunch of very precise google searches landing on my site. Guess half of the images never showed up because of this. What a pity!  :'(

I guess search on symbiostock.info is working with a non-WP database then. Compound keywords don't seem to be a problem there.

Well, it is so amazing watching Symbiostock evolving so fast that it is quite a surprise that patience is still asked often  ;D

The rogue strawberry has its own database. Yes its possible with a new database which I hope to make soon. Wordpress's is also possible, but only if I add 3 more queries which is heavy on your site.

So example - unless I'm wrong, you should have an image with the keywords "dog" and "beach" and "spain" in one image. Unless there is an interesting beach called "Dog beach" found in "spain".

Example: Orange man running

right - your explanation of the and/or searches is why I've broken out keywords at http://symbiostock.cascoly.com (http://symbiostock.cascoly.com) -- the AND becomes much easier and  quicker.

using keywords directly, I can search for 'Rhode Island' or 'New York' and not get other island pictures, etc

I've added searches using the promoted keywords and will be adding additional keyword searches.

Just notes for anyone following this thread - here is a temporary measure to "split" your compound keywords until we make a dedicated database.

This split up code is working:

Keywords
america, Apple, Art, background, big, Big Apple, Blue, City, City of New York, City of New York flag, city seal, colors, eagle, expression, Eye, Face, face paint, fan, Flag, follower, freedom, Gotham, independence, independent, liberty, looking, make, make up, Man, municipal, municipal seal, new, new york, New York city, New York city flag, NY, NY City, NY City flag, NY flag, of, Orange, paint, passion, patriot, patriotic, pride, Red, seal, SIgn, Sports, states, support, supporter, symbol, texture, The, The Big Apple, tricolor, Tricolour, united, United States, up, usa, white, windmill, world, York

It does create a lot of spam though LOL. But I can clean that up once the database is created. But my images pull up now.

Spam? Yeah, I was going to make a stop-word filter ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stop_words ) but I didn't want to presume and take out something you might need.

2.5.0 Ready for download. www.symbiostock.com (http://www.symbiostock.com) or just update your theme.

2.5+ is fairly stable. However this nice round number does not imply any HUGE features, other than very good stability.

If I can release latest version tonight, we have some new stats available in Symbiocard (ajt, cascoly, plrang will be curious)

rank_1_images
rank_2_images
rank_3_images

{total of each}

(As you know, these only refer to which images take front seat in your local. Its not a status symbol. So if you have 500 images, and all 500 are rank 1, then you might as well have 500 rank 2 or 3 images.)

rating_0_images
rating_1_images
rating_2_images
rating_3_images

{total of each}

keywords
{total}
categories {total}

filter_level{0-3}
allow_unrated{1 or 0}

alexa_popularity
alexa_rank
alexa_reach
alexa_links_in
alexa_speed

This will help VERY MUCH in being able to
A: Create intelligent databases (like AJT and Cascoly are doing)
B: Help people discover how the individual sites are performing.

Also 404's coming from compound tags have been fixed. HOWEVER compound-keywords are still not found in human searches.
Here is a little patch to help with the compound keyword issue:

Spam? Yeah, I was going to make a stop-word filter ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stop_words ) but I didn't want to presume and take out something you might need.

I mean spam as in unrelated keywords due to the separation.

For example, New York is also The Big Apple, so now searching for Apple, you get my levitating apple slices and the New York city flag ;)

I've followed this discussion with interest as I also use compound keywords. Am I right in thinking that the latest release 2.5.0 includes a fix that splits compound keywords into their constituent words - ie NEW YORK becomes two words - New and York? I think Leo said that the original compound ones will be kept in the meta data for later use.

Is there a way to get rid of these split words in future -  or are we just creating a massive keyword spam problem for ourselves? As Ron says, searching for Apple now brings up his NYC flags - that isn't what buyers want, in my view. The speed that this appeared made me wonder if all the implications have been thought through - although I hope they have. I'm not at all sure I want my compound keywords split out for ever just to solve a short term issue on site search.

Please tell me there is a way we can get back to our original keywords in a release that is soon to arrive??

I have been splitting out my keywords since the early days when I realised it only found single words.  So if anyone finds any obvious errors in searches then shout and I will edit them as we may as well keep this as keyword-spam free as we can :)

Not sure if this is a bug or something unique to my site...

When I do a search and click on the zoom icon below a thumbnail in the results, the info displayed in the pop-over window lists size options that aren't available for my images. For example, I don't sell the Bloggee size, but it is still listed in the available options. Not on the image page itself, just in this zoom preview pop-over window in search results.

If I accidentally add a space to a search term it wont show any results either. Its counting the space as a character. I thought searches would discard a stray space at the end of a search term.

2.5.1 is available.

No big fixes or changes - PLRANG wants the image page to be "pluggable" so his plugin works when he releases it to you. Plugins can now do actions on various parts of the image page.

Please tell me if you get prompted for 2.5.1 assuming you've physically downloaded and installed the previous 2.5.0 per the email I sent.

*** license_type is no longer in the image xml???

---model released & property released have defaulted to 'yes' rather than n/a

---marketing - list of networks still not alphabetical

I reset property/model release on author page to NO, then ran the complete update -- went back to edit all my zip files which had been reset to zip not available

the property & model releases were now set to YES

checked other images and ALL I looked at were set to YES for releases - whether published or draft

on my symbio/author page, both release are set to no but even when I upload & process new images, everything is being set to YES

2 represents the middle. So making an image a 1st rating, puts it in front. 3rd puts it in back.
So you can judge your own work and decide what the customer sees first, and (not that anyone has low quality stuff :D) you can put the lesser-value stuff in back. Same as some stock agencies probably do, only you know about this and have control over it. :D

The "filter" of which you speak is the content system which I suspect no-one will use. Green, yellow, red.

Ranking system is for you to put your best work in front. It has nothing to do with anyone else. Rating system (content) will probably not get used anyway. You needn't fear.

I could write a bunch of stuff on it but sadly I'm out of time.

Delete the parent theme (not the child theme - it will be dormant and reappear once you update to 2.5.2)
Upload the new version of the parent theme
Reactivate the child theme.

I've just updated to 2.5.2, but the site seems incredibly slow now...

Just clicking on one of the keywords in the tag cloud takes about two minutes before anything comes up.

It could be the hosting of the site, but it seemed to be OK before I upgraded to 2.5.2. Nothing else was changed - just the new theme from 2.5.0

Steve

PS - and it didn't find anything against that tag - maybe that is that image update issue, but just moving to one of my cat images from the one on the home page takes a long time...

PPS - latest attempt to load home page got Error establishing a database connection

Worrying,,,

Leo - I'm pretty concerned about the stability of my site right now - I've had about 2 database errors and the performance is really slow. Are you sure 2.5.2 is stable?

steve

2.5.1 introduces hooks on the main image page.
2.5.2 intruduces a feature AJT wanted to reduce memory useage, which only kicks on during batch operations (the automated ones mostly)

So perhaps the question is is 2.5.0 stable?
I guess we'll need a group of people to answer that with their combined experiences.

Mostly I see annoyance and the slowness to accept the feature of certain kinds of filtering, and a lot of misunderstanding what giving levels "1,2,3" to your images implies.

And me...I am behind on some life endeavors so mostly I will be honoring the requests of AJT, Cascoly, Amanda, Plrang, and Matt Dixon as they ask for small changes. Besides that we should allow the smoke to settle from 4 months of development.

edit - second try and its slow. Again it might be activity happening on your site making demands, but if you were happy with 2.5.0 then really 2.5.2 is the same except for the most insignificant changes.

Just did the upgrade to 2.5.3, I am also noticing very slow times for clicking on a keyword and waiting for the search results. I'm talking a minute or two for the page to load. SIGNIFICANT BUG, just emailed a screenshot to Leo, once the page does load the SITE IS BROKEN. Even the menu bar is broken!

Also Leo, in the Author Options page you still have an option for datasheets there, even though I think you have removed them?

Seems this big bug only surfaces when clicking on a keyword/tag for an image. Search, category browsing etc all works fine.

The themes are on Symbiostock.com - the latest is 2.5.5. From where you are, I think you need to load this one manually from the zip file. Activate one of the other themes, delete the Symbio theme, upload the new zip, activate it, then (and I can't remember is this step is needed or not) activate one of the standard themes again, then activate Symbio. Finally activate the child theme.

That double step was needed for one of the themes around the release where you are.

I'm sure Leo just wants to freeze this and get on with something else - I think 2.5.5 is where we will be for a while

I've done the update.
But now my "Process Uploads" images are all gone. The process queue is empty. Does that mean I have to upload the unprocessed images again or have they been processed to drafts?

I had the same problem ( images to be processed disappearing)... I think they are gone forever.  You will need to up load again.  I now know not to update while I have images ready to process...

That's a tough lesson to be learned. It's gonna be a PITA to figure out which images have been processed already and which haven't.

what I started doing was putting uploaded images into a separate folder rather than immediately deleting (I always upload copies from archives).  then confirm the images have been processed ok before deleting.  a bit less of a hassle this way

v 2.5.0

from the user page, I click on License Agreement & Terms
and it goes to
http://cascoly-images.com/pix/end-user-license-agreement-3/ (http://cascoly-images.com/pix/end-user-license-agreement-3/)  which is not my license page

this new page was created 6/28 when I updated to 2.5.0

the page it should be using is
 http://cascoly-images.com/pix/end-user-license-agreement-2/ (http://cascoly-images.com/pix/end-user-license-agreement-2/)  which was last updated 4/6

I'm not sure I can follow. What do you mean by "immediately deleting"? I don't delete anything (at least not on purpose).

That directory will be moved when I get back to developing the theme in a month or so, preventing this problem. For now things are working and I don't want to break them :D

Just don't upgrade your theme when you have images uploaded. Its just one of little Symbiostock quirks for now, must keep in mind.

I have a folder on my pc to upload - usually after uploading I delete them (since they're already in an archive elsewhere).  here I keep them for a bit and only need to compare a small number of images to see which were uploaded, which not

the duplicate desc bug is still there -- intermittent but when it happens it happens to the entire batch -- it's pulling in desc fields from BOTH iptc and xml

Will check that out. It seems to pop up at random times. I'm almost certain the IPTC library I'm using is vomiting up two results, because I only choose one or the other, depending on which is full or which is empty. It will take one choice and move on...

i'd mentioned earlier -- it would be very useful to have the actual image url and that for the minipic displayed on the image edit page -- there's no other easy way to find this.  best I've been able to do when I want to use a minipic somewhere else is call up the image, do view source and search for the minipic (so the info is there, just not being displayed)

one place it would be useful is including images within images - yoast keeps downgrading image posts for 'no image on the page', so I want to insert minipic of a similar image

eg:

I'd invite anyone who's missed it to check out this thread, since I'm not going to change anything for about a month.

Any upgrades from here will be by direct request from developers.

EDIT replying to Cascoly

If you like I can write a little code extension for you, which you can plug in using the Genetics Lab plugin. Be warned the genetics lab produces mutations :D

it's definitely using exif info from 2 different sources when it does this - so the test for 'empty' is probably failing

When I need image url, I simply do right-click and "show image" or "show image info", and there is url ready to copy.

Leo - with all the changes, it's hard to keep up -- can you clarify the current status of  these:

-- how are promoted keywords used?

-- how are the promoted sites and extended network sites being used in searches?

v2.5.5

upgraded,  then uploaded & processed images -- all came thru with my default of 'NO' for property/model release.  however ran I ran reprocessing on all images to fix the rest tat had been set to 'YES' by a previous version - nothing happened.  the ones that had NO stayed that way (correctly), but none of the others were reset from 'YES' to the default of 'NO'

With the majority of bugs having been fixed, we can now call Symbiostock "Stable" in the sense that its reliable and will not be undergoing any large changes for a while.

To catalog the remaining bugs or even new ones you may find, please post them here:
