From a client point of view I wonder if the image page has got too in the way of words and not enough pictures.  It is unlikly they will scroll down to find the Similar images unless they know they are there.

Can keywords and categories either
be hidden or
made much smaller text  (if anyone can give me the css for this I will do it, I have been trying)
have option to put below similar images (I have mine full width and like them that way, putting on side also means scrolling to find them)

Our photo information also takes up quite a lot of room

Keywords and category text (and it's size) is important for SEO.

How about its arrangement, could it go below "similar images" so that they show up when the page opens?

Moving it will also affect SEO as the order of content on the page is taken into account by the search engines.  You could do it with a custom page template though, or another option is to put it in the side bar of the image page so it shows up right under the price options and add to cart area.
