You are asking that bugs be posted as a comment on the SY website. But I don't see where I can actually see what people are posting. Are the problems with the site a secret now?

I hadn't noticed that we can't see posted comments.  Or perhaps none have been posted yet?  It would be helpful to know if others are experiencing the same bugs or may have found solutions that Leo doesn't have to address.  I hope the comments will be visible.

Yes, it would be helpful.

I notice several people have upgraded to 2.5.5. I was away for a couple days for the holiday and am now just catching up. Are there any issues with 2.5.5? I was thinking that I read somewhere that you have to download the zip file and cannot upgrade using the upgrade button in WP. Now I can't find that thread. Do I need to deactivate, delete old SY theme, add 2.5.5. then reactivate the child theme (the old method?)

I was able to update using the updater in the WP themes area.

Method of updating - probably depends which version you are on but with some of them you did have to go back to old method of deleting and re-uploading

I would imagine posting comments on Symbiostock means Leo does not have to come here which will help with his time out?

I don't care about the specifics, but an overview of what the version fixed and what it added, and how to use what was added would be helpful. I see on the SY site that Leo has kept up until 2.5.0. Maybe he will add info about 2.5.5 and versions in between. I am hoping that information will remain transparent. I am OK with just developers hashing through and getting the version stable, but I still want to know what is going on. Especially if new features are added.

Really...a minus because I want to know what changed in 2.5.5? Too funny.

I have updated to 2.5.5 and have not encountered any problems.  However, my site is very basic and not a lot of activity right now.

If you are on 2.4.x you will need to delete the Symbiostock theme and upload the latest version.  If you are already on 2.5.x you should be able to update right from your themes menu.

Hope that helps.

the changes from 2.5.0 to 2.5.5 were mostly related to problems with the new ratings and rankings -- leo has been posting new versions when he fixed the reported bugs -- the versions should really have been labeled 2.5.0, 2.5.0.1, 2.5.0.2, etc   there's not as big a difference between 2.4.9 and 2.5.5 as the numbers would indicate

there was also a problem with the default values for releases and that's been fixed too

Thanks! I am on 2.4.9, so will do it the old-fashioned way.

Is this the reputation Ive earned? Keeping faults a secret?

The only secret is I'm very tired from 4 months of developing free software full time. Today I did myself a favor and slept late. Had the privelege of seeing this thread first. If there are comments on my sites bug page I haven't even seen them much less pushed the approve button.

In case you missed it (its not a conspiracy or a secret) I'm taking a month of to balance things out again. When I get back with some renewed energy I make no secret that I will take a very different approach to this project.

So it appears the peaceful pattern of symbiostock culture is finally starting to change. It will be my fault when things go wrong... like one person getting less sales or traffic than another. If someone is inconvenienced by a bug we will be happy to ignore the 99% that is going right.

I did at least wake up to a few sales on my mostly neglected www.clipartillustration.com. it reminds me of the former days before 4 months ago when selling direct was my carefully gaurded little secret.

Then I had this crazy idea to release those secrets into the crowd. Early in the excitement I got a call from an industry expert.
I was told things like this would happen...

Leo

I thought some of the way those threads were worded was not very "nice" - just ignore it - the overwhelmingly large proportion of your "customers" are very happy with the work you have done!

Leo - Go Away and have a rest, forget that the forum (and the network) exists for a few weeks, we will manage to survive without you for a while - not permanently but I think we are all capable now of working most things out between ourselves.

You keep saying you are going to take time off but then pop up again, get your wife to change your log in or hide your computer for a few weeks, you deserve a break after putting this together with so few of us able to help with the programming side of things.

You are appreciated - very much so - now please just go away and enjoy your summer with your family !  :)

Leo, I've said it before and I'll say it again (probably several more times) I am amazed at all you have been able to accomplish in such a short period of time!  You've managed to create the most positive thing for artists that this industry has seen in a long time.  I thank you!  In our personal dealings you've shown yourself to be more than trustworthy.  Again, I thank you.

Now about that break....better get started :)  We'll be here when you're ready to get going again.

Clearly you are speaking to me. Sorry you took such offense to the word secret. I have been unable to find where others have made comments, good OR bad, about 2.5.5. You closed the bug thread and are directing people to leave comments on the SY site. I wondered if you were going to go offline with them now (that's what I meant by secret, as in kept from view, revealed only to the other developers you are working with like cascoly, ajt, etc). Most developers only report what has changed or what bugs have been fixed with each new release. Thought you might be going that route.

I don't know that I will go so far as to call you a legend, but I have told you before (maybe you missed those posts) and will tell you again that your work is much appreciated. Pretty soon you will monetize plugins etc and with that and the SEO advantages you get, you will make back your time and hard work and sweat many times over. Keep focusing on your end goal, and don't bother about the stupid, petty, not "nice", ignorant comments I make. I am focused on ME making money and I am sure you are focused on YOU making money. As it should be.

I hope you take Tinny's advice and take some time off. No one here, that I know of, including me, is pressuring you to just keep working and working and working...I have a feeling you are doing that to yourself.

Again, thanks for your hard work, Leo. And no, I do not ignore the 99% that is going right. You said that, not me. Surely you must know that people (not just me) have a tendency to focus on the negative, especially after having been reamed by agencies and desperate to make up lost money. I don't know why you find that surprising.

Have a great summer and rest up!

Ron

Legend is commonly used in Ireland for people who did something great. Its Irish slang. It fits Leo perfectly.

In that context, you are spot on.

In the American dictionary:

1 a   : a story coming down from the past; especially   : one popularly regarded as historical although not verifiable   b   : a body of such stories <a place in the legend of the frontier>   c   : a popular myth of recent origin   d   : a person or thing that inspires legends   e   : the subject of a legend <its violence was legend even in its own time  William Broyles Jr.>

Maybe in another couple of years he will hit legend status  :D

Your intention may be good but your OP did sound like you were interrogating him.. I know I would have been offended :)

Leo deserves all the money he is going to make and even if money was his "only" motivation, it doesn't make his work any less valuable..

Where is the thread about 2.5.5 being available, and how to update? I'm still at 2.4.9.

I don't know that there is a thread...

I just updated based on comments above. I used the old method. Activated Twenty Ten, deleted SY 2.4.9, installed 2.5.5, then reactivated my child theme. All seems to work well, so far. I haven't done any test purchases, but uploads went ok. Still checking out searches.

Thank you for sharing your secret. Or at least sharing the means by which to sell direct. I tried selling direct before and it was far more difficult.

Just sent you a donation. Go relax, have a few drinks on me. And sleep in again a few more times at least. :)
