Hello everyone. Here's a VERY IMPORTANT initial update on the base theme.

First, a WARNING: Do not install this unless you are ready for the quirks of a major overhaul, and a few adjustments on your end.

See this example on my website: http://www.clipartillustration.com/

Download: https://github.com/orangeman555/symbiostock/blob/metamorphosis/symbiostock.zip?raw=true

What's going on here is we are finalizing Symbiostock for the long haul. Simplicity, minimal, professional. Out of the box.

We've put in the modern bootstrap 3, and along with many other perks the whole theme is 100% responsive, no questions asked.

EDIT:

The objective here is that the theme should be a simple blank slate, with plenty of flexibilty for modification stylewise. On the other hand, with no modifications, it should come off as a no-nonsense simple image store.

Looks good Leo. But JTLYK, on my iPad, your logo and anything above it can't be seen beneath the floating search box thingummy. This happens on every page. iOS 6.1.3 Retina display

ETA - it's even more marked on my iPhone 4S (also v6.1.3).

Good observation. I might just put the logo in the bar itself, or make it travel downward depending on how squashed things are.

Could you explain a little more, what can I expect to change and redo? Thank you

There's not going to be a public update.

Basically if you have template files in your child theme, those will have to be adapted.

In this case you really can just "wing it" too. Upload, check it out...and if its not looking good just roll back. While it works fine with me, there's always those unanticipated things.

My list of things to improve:

-Batch editor needs to be able to show all images in the portfolio
-Batch editor needs to show the image values. Not the default values. this is only possible if all  images have the same custom value though.
-Licences need to be able to be toggled off and on
-Selected images need to be able to be toggled selected and deselected
-RM license needs to be more flexible and customisable, the way its set up now doesnt really - suffice RM licensing (or I am missing something)
-Mobile device optimisation still very important to have

IF you need me to explain something better, let me know.

No prob. I'll be taking this entire list and doing as much as possible.

At first glance looks good - works well on my 10" tablet and looks the same on that as on laptop

Many of us us the plug-in "UK Cookie Consent" as this is required by EU law - or a cookie consent anyway and this overlays the top of the page and therefore the search bar until you accept it

I had a quick play on test site at http://tulip.kerioak.com/   - would need more colour editing on my part to get text to show properly but that can be done when I have more time.

What does "100% responsive" mean and how does that differ from what we currently have?

Just a suggestion that would make backups easier.

I've been working through ways to backup the database and image files and have a workable solution for the initial backup:
http://www.backyardsilver.com/2013/09/backing-symbiostock-website/

However, I'm struggling a bit with the backing up of incremental image files. The solution I use (mover.io) doesn't seem to be able to select individual files in a folder to transfer although I'm contacting support to see if it is coming. At present, all image files are in symbiostock_rf folder.

Could we add images into monthly sub folders in this overall folder - I could then backup a monthly folder without having to redo all the previous ones.

If this screws up everything else, then just forget it. It was just an idea!

Me, too. But I do like the bar at the top.

I am showing a 2.6.5 update in wp dashboard, its been there a couple of days. I was going to update to that. Is this update 2.6.6 then? And when you say it's not going to be a public update, Leo, does that mean it will NOT show up in the dashboard, the only way we can get it is to download from this thread? I'm going to download it now so I have it, but don't want to duplicate efforts if it shows up later in wp.

I didnt know you could find the version number in the css, so I unzipped this latest version and it appears to be version 2.6.7. I missed 2.6.6 somewhere along the line. (note: it's the style.css file in the Symbiostock folder, the first folder. NOT in the css folder)

FEATURE REQUESTS AND REFINEMENTS

I will do my best to get to these as they are appropriate or achievable. As Cidepix says, premium is different for everyone. Thanks for purchasing. Free upgrades! Lets keep building.

  • Collections need to be more self-explanatory and simple.
  • Search Tracking should be implemented. (Base theme?)

===============
bulk edit doesnt bring up private images

want to have private images in a public collection so that those images are ONLY available as a collection, so there's no way to set one image as the home for the collection.

what i was able to do was just publish 1 image, use bulk edit to add it to a collection, set prices, etc, then use regular edit to add the private images  b ut in the image/collection area it only shows 1 image in the collection
===================

collections
----   need to be able to bulkedit collection to remove multiple images, leaving the rest of the collection -- only choices now are to empty or delete

--- says 'edit image' when setting up the title image - yet it's really editing prices for the collection???  after editing for the collection, that image is no longer available for individual purchase??

---- how do people know where the collections are?? there's no separate category, and when the title image is shown with others, there's nothing to show it's a collection.  even when you click on the image, the collection prices are shown, and there's a small line of text that says "46 images included" but that's easy to miss since there's nothing else to identify this as a collection

----  when an image in a collection is displayed, it should also include a link to the full collection - this will greatly improve upselling when people come into the site thru a single image

- when user clicks on collection  link to a display of the images in the collection the way you can if you click on the images column in the collection editor  and/or fix the image display to show more than 24 images in a collection

-- the images/collection edit page needs a link to the title page image for easy editing, otherwise you have to remember what the image name is in order to change the collection display, keywords or pricing

=================
search tracking -- needs to part of the basic theme so we have network wide stats

here's the network search table
this should only keep the latest 60 days traffic, otherwise the collected file will be overwhelming

===search-log record  (one created for each network site checked. Records need to record each networked site separately so that db can do different sorts, counts, graphs, etc)

Type of search (1=network (basic sym site), 2=promoted )
   search string used
   url of current site
   url of network site X
   # images returned from networked site X
time elapsed for search (useful in deciding how many sites we can reasonably look at)
   date/time of search

Need an option to set licenses as a default type of license on a per image basis. Very important for us with a mixture of editorial, RF, and RM content. Otherwise if I make an image available under an editorial license by default no option is selected when the customer tries to buy the image and it's up to them to actually select it. If they don't and they make the purchase it defaults to a non existant standard license. Could be a liability issue for editorial images.

in the cart manager a way to see not only which image sold and what size but also what license the image sold under.

Nice if also we had a way to see sales on a global side. Right now it's all on a per user basis.

Might have more but right now those are the big ones I've been thinking of that haven't been said already.

One (or two) more from me:

I would appreciate the possibility to set one license (in my case the standard license) as the one which is set (with active checkbox) by default. Right now neither the checkbox of my standard nor that of my extended license is active when you visit a single image page.

Belongs to that, but perhaps it's better to mention it separately:

You can choose licenses without being logged in. So it would be necessary to show the higher prices for all sizes in the extended license as soon as the customer activates the extended license checkbox ... I just think it would be better if the customer could see those higher prices before he creates an account and logs in.

also include # of collections in the symbiocard

Some more from me:

When reprocessing the watermark

- I always get this:

Large Industrial Worker Bot with Heat Gun
    Count: 43 / 43
Last processed: Image # 30 (Watermarked)

- There's no Email notification when the batch is finished

- The categories are only the standart categories ... would be great to have the self-generated categories too Just discovered them at the end of the list  :)

- Making watermark moveable 20% up and down in case it hides important parts of the image

cidepix

just read number 3:

3 Remove the Standard License blue bar that appears BELOW the Download button (not sure why it's there, see here for example: http://thpstockphotos.com/image/first-light/ )

it's actually possible to remove that during set-up.. there should be a tutorial which will solve these issues..

If you set the upgrade amount to 0.00 for standard license that bar will not appear.. I know because the same thing happened to me and that's how you remove it..
