Title: Reward referal when I get a sale
Post by: grsphoto on April 18, 2013, 07:59
I am trying to think of ways to reward people who have me on their network, and send me sales.

I am wondering if a plug-in such as this http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/affiliates/ (http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/affiliates/) can be intergrated into my site.... and what people think of the idea.

Would 5% of the sale be a good amount?  Too high?  Too low?

Any thoughts?

Glenn

when the network grows and there are many incoming links to your site and everyone's sites, search engines will send all of us enough traffic that non of us will worry about this..

it's a two way traffic.. they are sending you traffic, and you are sending them traffic.. I don't think it is possible for paypal payments to be automatically split and shared with referrers..

I can see how you can keep track of who referred which sale, but automatically paying the referrer is not possible under current technical conditions.. (correct me If I am wrong on this..)

I use WP Affiliate on my blog site to reward people whose incoming links results in a sale of my eBook (but 30% there!) and it would certainly work in this environment. I think that each person would have to use the unique affiliate code on the incoming link and the system keeps track of sales as a result of the link (although I think it keeps track of any sale in a fixed number of days after the first entry into the site, which may not be appropriate in our case). However, I'm not at all sure how it would know about the different size images etc. it is one thing to set it up for single item, another altogether to track the complexity we are potentially building.

Having said all that, I'm not sure I'm bothered about affiliate payments particularly - we don't want to get affiliate trolls in the network that just set up sites to funnel sales to real sites and take a commission!

From my limited reading and understanding it is very possible for Paypal to split payments etc., if properly coded it would be done automagically....

Why not?   I am a photographer, not a web designer, not a marketer. If someone ( just about anyone :) ) can do a better job at marketing my images than great.

I am with you on this one. I'd happily pay a percentage to someone who does my marketing. However, I have no clue how this can be technically done. And in any case it must be optionally.

I agree with Steve on this.

For every $50 worth of sales you send me, I will mail you a beer.
