Get it here:

http://www.symbiostock.com/products-page/upgrades-and-plugins/premium-upgrade/

Included with this download is the latest Symbiostock version. Be sure to download and reinstall it (v2.6.0).

I'll be using this thread to give some dedicated support and remove whatever initial bugs we may find.

*important if you must update any child theme template files to reflect the current changes, or you will see errors.

FEATURE REQUESTS AND REFINEMENTS

I will do my best to get to these as they are appropriate or achievable. As Cidepix says, premium is different for everyone. Thanks for purchasing. Free upgrades! Lets keep building.

Requested by Cascoly
  • Collections need to be more self-explanatory and simple.
  • Search Tracking should be implemented. (Base theme?)
Requested by DonLand

  • Images that are assigned categories but are not published are not shown when searching by a category.
  • Everything should be able to be added/removed in the bulk editor, such as Exclusive and Categories.
  • Need the ability to search for Drafts in the bulk editor.
  • Need the ability to search by Day in the bulk editor.
  • In the bulk editor the search parameters should be selectable there, i.e. search keywords, search title, search description.
  • When searching for keywords the search should auto fill from the list of all the keywords.
  • The search return number should default to last used value, not 48.
  • Need to be able to drag to select images in the grid. Much too labor intensive to click on every image chosen from search selection.
  • The drop down category search menu should not show categories that are empty.
Requested by Cidepix
  • The Cart Manager needs to be officially implemented and completed. (It was started for premium, now it should be installed as part of package).
  • sale stats by day, week, month, year?
  • download expiration
  • Display file id's to customers option
Requested by tdahl-stock

  • Ability to assign one value to selected images instead of all-values.

I am just starting to put a site together. Would I be better off building a site and uploading images using the free package and then installing this upgrade, or would it be easy/easier/less duplication of effort to install this package and then start uploading my images?

The bulk edits and better search sound like big wins and as I haven't started uploading yet, my options are completely open :)

Either way would work just fine.  If it was me, I'd be inclined to upgrade to the premium version so everything could be set-up the best way for me the first time.  Might save a little work in the long run.  You may find you want to setup your site a bit differently once you have access to the additional features of the premium version at your disposal but you won't be causing yourself any real problems either way you decide to go.  Welcome aboard!

Think I'll wait a few days until we see what the bugs might be.

But can you clarify this sentence - grammatically I don't know how to interpret it.

I'll take this opportunity to explain a little more on this plugin.

"Premium" gives ideas of the diamond under the counter. But its really just a tool.

Just like any tool, it has its use and place. This will help you manage your site, and offer some extra sorts of licenses, and promote via twitter.

Unfortunately out of necessity I have to charge moderately, but I don't want to misrepresent it as being the missing link between people and greater sales. The basic theme gives every advantage for sales as many have found. This here is simply a management tool for more established people.

With that said, I hope people can take their time and enjoy Symbiostock for what it is - open source community. Do not underestimate the value of your site. Sometimes people see value completely in terms of $, but the saying rings true in open source: The best things in life are free.

OK, 2.6.0 and ss-professional plugin installed!

Nothing broken so far, I just tested the batch editor by adjusting the pricing on 396 images, and all went well. Lots of messages complaining about no licenses set up as I haven't done anything about that yet. Leo, a tutorial needed on license setup, I think - it's not too intuitive looking.

Looking good so far, though - thanks, Leo!

If you've modified your theme via a child theme, and have set up some custom templates, then you will have to update those to be consistent with the 2.6.0 templates. Anyone who's child themed would know if they have to do this or not.

The newer base theme has quite a few special hooks (and fixes) thanks to the team effort. Its available right now. After updating toggle the theme so the installer runs, making a few file updates as well.

I'll make some videos tomorrow. Its good to hear first impressions. Actually the batch editor is extremely minimal to keep things easy on the eyes/mind. You'll get the hang of it quickly though.

I'll be going to bed soon.

For anyone who's purchased: Be sure to post any problems you have. I'll address each one tomorrow with a fresh mind/energy.

I'll probably buy the premium upgrade sometime but I'm a bit concerned that you were talking about giving this away for free and now the site states the old price was $125.  As its only just out, when was it being sold for $125?  Do you really need to make it look like this is $50 off?

I don't have a problem paying $75 for all your hard work but I don't think the old price $125 is going to entice me, it has the opposite effect.

I jumped in!

The batch edit looks fantastic. Obviously have not had enough time to really put it through it's paces but on first impression, very impressive. The thumbnails open very quickly and scroll smooth as butter, which is something that a lot of web sites would have difficulty doing. Looks great, THANKS!!!

Looks fantastic! Great to see that you will finally be getting a bit of payback for the months of hard work too. Can't wait to check out the new features and get some collections together.

Is it a per user license like the image-sitemap plugin? As I'm planning to publish more than one Symbiosite.

This is literally set up at that price so the original supporters and testers of Symbiostock can get it at a good price. After that its $125. As I had told one person that contacted me regarding the $125 price - its hard to put a price on 6 months of virtual bloodletting and fatigue.

Regarding the illusion of savings - even if I wanted to this MSG crowd is extremely sensitive (rightly so) to exploitation so such a clich trick would not be very well aimed at this audience  :)

For a while I had hoped to offer it for free. But the reality is while thats perfectly possible to do (and monetize) in the world of open source, such a thing requires a framework of community, scale, and involvement that Symbiostock just hasn't reached yet. So really its just a series of good decisions made at the right time, and a clear goal. In the meantime, I present the premium plugin as little more than a useful tool for established people with big portfolios.

This is a very good movie: http://movies.netflix.com/WiMovie/Revolution_OS/60025132?locale=en-US

Just think of it as per-person. Use it on ten of your sites if you want. :)

Completely agree, really on the fence about this now. I need that new search option, but I dont want to be pushed into spending cash to get a discount that is not a discount. Its even not allowed to advertise like that. It was never offered at 125 dollar, unless I am missing something.

Really upset about this. I wont spent 125 dollar on the plugin, but I dont want to stick with the effed up search and completely effed up keyword data base of mine. I am in a hole now.

Well, I'm now in with the premium upgrade. I said I would, and I did!

Tomorrow will be play-around-with-it time. I have a hunch I'm gonna like it.

Thanks, Leo.

Probably differerent laws on other side of the pond, think of it as introductory offer instead of discount

To anyone who feels like this, I'd advise: Do not buy it.

In the meantime, this subject demands its own dedicated blog post I will link to soon.

Thats fine, but call it what it is. Dont call it the old price. I dont mind paying the 75 dollar either, I was going to get the plugin regardless, just now I am forced to buy it in the next two weeks.

Never mind, I am Dutch, we do things differently.

And I still need Leos support to fix my keywords, so I will bow out and keep calm  :)
