Title: Critique wanted - too much noise?
Post by: Ron on August 30, 2013, 12:32
Hello fellar Symbiotics,  8)  me again,

I was wondering, since we have been under the reign of scrutinizing  reviewers for a long time, we got used to noise being unacceptable. Some agencies like Alamy understand the use of grain/noise, and also blue skies can sometimes be noisy. However some agencies will not tolerate it.

It has been discussed before that some images can still be perfectly in order even with noise. So I am wondering, is this noise acceptable? You can see the noise in the preview here, but if I post the 100% crop you see its not that bad, acceptable.

What is your opinion?

If you are concerned you could always put the small full sized version in with the description

Some noise, but that's what cameras with bayer sensors do with blue color.

It would probably get rejected at an agency but I think it's an easy to fix when you use a anti noise software.

If you use noise reduction, apply it to just the red channel, that's where the worst of it is.

yes, there is noise.
If its too much or not would depend. Sometimes I get noise like that and sometimes I smear it out. Other times I forget it and upload the picture, and sometimes it gets rejected sometimes not.

Thanks guys, I know there is noise, I was just wondering if we got brainwashed by some agencies who take noise levels too far :) LOL

I personally dont think its too much in my example, however I will try reducing it by reduction on the red channel. I mean, no noise is better than a little noise. But then again, grain is sometimes adding to an image, but thats a different story.

thanks for the help guys.
