Title: Do Symbiostock network searches cause 404s?
Post by: stockphoto-images.com on July 26, 2013, 08:32
I have SEO Ultimate installed and it also monitors where my site is causing 404s and it appears that a lot of Symbiostock searches that crawl my web site cause 404s whenever no results are found in my portfolio.

Am I right about this or am I doing something wrong?

I get roughly 100 errors (404) every day.

I get that too.

But I think that the majority of mine are because I've amended the slugs to improve SEO and I guess that old pagelinks were indexed before my edits.

There is a WP plugin that makes a best guess when there's a 404 and redirects to the "most likely" intended page. The one I've seen but not used is this one (http://wordpress.org/plugins/404-redirected/) but it is one of a few available.

Hmm, is it SEO-smart to use a 404-redirect?

Will search engines/bots notice they've been redirected and will they update the correct URL to the page that was originally linked to?

Could they be network searches that you do not have any keywords for?

Yes that's how it looks like. Most of the links that cause a 404 look like this:
Quote
h t t p://stockphoto-images.com/search-images/pots/?symbiostock_network_search=1&symbiostock_network_info=1&paged=1&cr=AhrefsBot

In this example somebody was looking for "pots" I assume.

Will this cause any SEO issues, should this be rectified?

first, google says 404s don't negatively affect the rest of your site

I get a fair number of 404s, but they're almost always for the now defunct datasheets,or for images that I've since deleted

In this example somebody was looking for "pots" I assume.
