And then who is .net setting up a Symbiostock wordpress site?

edit: down at bottom says Design: Matt Dixon. Maybe he started to set up a site for you, Leo?
Looks like Matt is starting up a Symbiostock agency. The site looks really good as is.

Leo, your symbiostock.com site is down.  Database connection error.

... and wth is http://www.symbiostock.net ?

Wow...all my sites are down

They are back. What happened?

Symbiostock.net is the community hub Mat Dixon is working on. Maybe you can knock on his door and it will finish  :)

Don't know what crashed everything. Email is still coming back online too. A call to Inmotion got things going again anyway.

Even as it stands, Matt is riding on the SEO coattails of SY but doesnt actually sell any items off his SY travelwitness.net site. He directs buyers to his stocksy site. So maybe he is going to set up the rest of the stocksy crew to also make use of SY seo? If so, I hope the rest of us get to ride on the coattails of stocksy traffic the same way.  :D

I would join the fun if I could understand how the whole thing works  :D Even though there are so many posts about this, everything is so confusing. Do you have a tutorial for extreme noobs?

Under all the confusion (and I have to wade through it sometimes too) its quite simple.

1. Sell your images direct, no strings attached. http://www.symbiostock.com/about/
2. Network with other microstockers - which creates benefits too many to name.

Regarding confusion of functionality - I've set up an optional service: http://www.symbiostock.com/symbiostock-site-setup-services-maintenance-assistance/

Although its likely possible you could do it easily yourself, and you'd probably just need me to alter some basic settings at the worst.

oh - and tutorials http://www.creativembers.com/

Hi Symbio community ;D

Firstly I want to congratulate Leo for all the work on the latest months and now all contributors joining building their own Symbio websites, it is just impressive, well done!

Secondly I am sure this was talked before but I have been thinking why don't we all join together in just one site instead of everybody working on their own sites?

I understand that working on our own we can work on the design, the prices, the collection, make it a little like our home but I believe the audience would grow a lot faster if we had just one site, something like an agency, everybody would be free to upload whatever they wish, pick their own prices or we could come up all with an agreement and of course we would share expenses (hosting, domain, etc etc)

I guess it would be the real cooperative, sorry if I am having a dumb idea, sure you guys wonder about this before

best of luck everybody!

You can also look here:

http://www.microstockgroup.com/symbiostock/

As we were all setting up our sites, at some point or another someone had the same issue already that you might run into. Basically you start out getting an ISP host (bluehost has been recommended) then you set up wordpress on that hosts server. From there, you load the SY theme.

The closest we'll be coming to that is "hub sites" that do just what your asking. They will import preview images, create their own watermarks, and interface with everyone's sites to allow payments and downloads remotely. Also there is a paid promoter on the way www.picturengine.com which will be tested out too. They've almost finished their Symbiostock connected system.

So really anything is possible - the Symbiostock tool is being made to cater to as many options and ideas as possible. The marketing feature allows what you are suggesting.

As things mature people will have more themes and more convenience, and I'm sure someone interested enough can set up a Symbiostock site hosting service which takes away 100% of the burden for people, allowing them to upload their images and not have to do anything else.

And also, what you are suggesting Luis, sounds almost like another agency. If some people are responsible for working on the site and maintaining it, etc., next thing you know, a percentage of sales are going to be asked for to pay for that work. I think your key words that explain why SY is NOT what you are talking about are these: "we could come up all with an agreement and of course we would share expenses (hosting, domain, etc etc)". It might be very tough to come up with terms that everyone would agree on. SY is the best of both worlds.

And if at any point someone feels like SY is not working for them, they can just disconnect from the network. They of course would suffer SEO penalties, but at least all the work of having their own site up would be done. It would just be a matter of rebuilding the SEO (no easy task, for sure). I, for one, feel more independent having it the way it is. But that doesn't mean if someone comes up with the model you are talking about that I wouldnt be interested. That's the freedom of being independent...we can put our images anywhere we want and still make 100% of the royalties.

I'm preparing to create my symbio site, I want it to look neat so it will teak some time, but if all goes ok, it will add about 6000 pics to the network.

no Cathleen I am not suggesting another agency, I just wish we could all join in one site and we would work together uploading and promoting, I haven't talked about royalties and such, I believe it is possible once SY seems to be made of a very good group of contributors, honest and hard working people so I don't think we would have much worries like ALL agencies deposit on us, anyway it was just an idea, we never thought a person would create SY so perfectly, like Leo said anything is possible :)

You did say 'something like an agency', which will probably rise the hair on some people's backs as SY is created to get away from agencies  :)

Finally sy is a group project now and not just one person. Ajt for instance perfected network speed.

I have to admit I'm intrigued by the whole Sy thing, but for the time being I'm watching from the sidelines.  It looks like it's a fair amount of work for a payoff that, at the moment, isn't there yet... unless I'm missing something?  When the threads start popping up with people saying they're getting daily sales, I'll be motivated to jump in.  For now, I'll watch and wish everyone the best.

It looks like a lot of work because there are so many sites being opened and people posting about everything. If I look at my own work, it took me a few good hours to set it up. But once its set up, its maintenance and uploading images. I think people that were engaged with the initial testing and bug fixing had indeed a lot of work to do. But if you step in now, its really quick and easy considering you can build a complete working website without any involvement of a web developer or having to have programming / coding skills. The more people join the network, the more chance of getting towards daily sales. If everybody watches from the side lines, the growth and momentum slows down. But I understand your point.

for people who still haven't decide to join, here a poll result of "Your Symbiostock Deployment Experience" from http://www.microstockgroup.com/symbiostock-hosting/my-site-symbiostock-(-works-doesn't-work-)-and-this-is-my-hosting-company/

From my experience, you don't need to know everything before you join, you will learn while you setting up your website :)

I am adding images as we speak. I kept postponing it as I had to do SEO on all 280 images I had already published and couldnt get myself to sit down for it. But now I have, and I am not now adding the other 500. Ugh, cant wait for it to be complete. I can see hits on my images via google by the way.

Edit: typo not=NOW. I am adding images NOW  ;)

Same here. I have only 250 images online now. (still 3000 to go). I put some careful painful  ;) effort into SEO and I see results. Several google searches bring up my images on page one. Traffic from outside MSG is picking up accordingly. First sale seems to be just a matter of time. Can't wait, though  ;D
