Can I add Stripe to my Symbistock site, to accept credit cards, or only PayPal?

Of the people that register on my shop, about half never make a purchase, and it occurred to me they not want to use Paypal for their credit cards. I have on my front page that I accept credit cards, so maybe they are unpleasantly surprised when they realize it has to go thru Paypal.

Also, it was pointed out to me that I don't have an SSL logo which may be a deterrent - how do I get one, is there an additional fee?

Any insight on this or how to retain registrants to make a purchase would be appreciated, thanks!

I hope there's an answer, because I'd like to offer other payment options as well. Are you getting spam registrations or real ones? For real ones, you can certainly start an email list and make some sort of offer to keep people engaged.

Thanks Shelma, and great work BTW! Yes I'm definitely going to make an email list of all registrants; good idea about some kind of offer to bring them back. I should probably ask them the Paypal question! They seem to be genuine registrations, it's not a ton of stuff or anything that seems spammy.

FYI about SSL, apparently it's just a more secure server that you have to pay a bit extra for to your hosting service. Please correct me if I'm wrong about this, anyone.

I've also posted this question on the SS technical support board and emailed directly to Leo. Is there some other authority that I can approach with this?

Hey Shelma, update - Leo has told me that it's not doable with the current SS, but acknowledges that it's a a good idea and should be included in the next version. In reply to that, I asked this question:

"OK thanks Leo - question then; is there a way to customize the message at the checkout stage somehow to make it very clear to people, in very large obvious type that they will definitely see, that they can use a credit card WITHOUT a paypal account, and that it's VERY secure?"
Is there a field in the SS dashboard or elsewhere that I can edit myself to display this, right at the point of purchase?"

I'll post here what the reply is -  KK

I'm glad that he got back to you. SSL certificates are something you purchase from your hosting company and are I BELIEVE required when accepting credit card payments through your site (well, I'm sure you could without but it'd be a terrible idea) ... for instance when you go to check out at any site (even putting in your info for paypal) the protocol switches from http to https if it wasn't already https. The security certificate just encrypts data sent to your web server so that it can't be snooped on by others.

Thanks for the compliment on my work. :) Let us know if you can edit the payment page. I've actually asked a web designer to help me add payment options, but unfortunately he never got back to me.

Theres much more to setting up an e-commerce site than just installing a Theme.

You will need to buy an SSL from you host and I would install security for your WP site from hacks. Sucuri and iThemes Security Pro are a good place to start, I would install both. SSL certificates should have some liability insurance bundled with them. Handling credit card payments needs to be very secure in case someone intercepts them.

Wordpress as good as it is, is a notorious target for hackers.
