Hi all,

Ive just installed symbiostock 2.6.5  on WP 3.6.1   but when i upload a jpg image,  it shows no preview image for it, just the red ladybug.    There are no errors, and it runs through the upload process etc fine,  i can search on the keywords i enter for the image and it fins it,  except all that is displayed is the red ladybug. If tryed several different jpgs of differing sizes and sources so it woudl not appear to be an issue with the jpg itself.

I ran through the tutorials fro uploading etc and i dont appear to be doing anything incorrectly.  ANy help greatly appreciated!

Thanks
Neil

I posted about this same problem yesterday.

http://www.microstockgroup.com/symbiostock-technical-support/image-pages-with-no-images/

It's clearly a new bug. Eventually it will be acknowledged and hopefully fixed. Until then, don't make the mistakes I have repeatedly made. Whenever there is a new version of Symbiostock, as long as your current version is working, wait at least a month before upgrading. Otherwise you get stuck with a non-working version and have to wait for a fix.

There isn't, which is concerning. I think the safe thing to do is stay a few versions behind, so you can see what problems manifest themselves before installing. One thing you could potentially do is download x.x.x version but don't install it. Just keep it for a while and see what people find. If no major problems crop up after a month, install it manually.

Anyhow, I'm sorry you ran into this new issue, but glad that we have a second report. I'm sure others will eventually run into this problem with Preview Images.

Would this be an issue of the php version your hosting company is using? Some other processing issues are happening because their hosting co is using something other than php version 5.3. Apparently 5.4 causes issues.

Here's the thread on the Symbiostock forum that talks about this.

http://www.symbiostock.org/topic/53/resolved-trouble-downloading-images/

http://www.symbiostock.org/topic/30/upgrade-your-php-to-53x-you-wont-crash/

You can use cPanel at your hosting company's site to check your PHP version and change it if necessary

I tried this. I went from 5.2 to 5.3 Single, and now images won't process at all.

Turned off Imagick, the images processed, but I'm back to where I was with no preview images.

What a cluster.  ::)

Here is the solution from Ron that ended up working for me:

As for the image previews. It could be related to the watermark. The watermark location seem to have changed with 2.6.5 (not 100% sure about that tho) but when the watermark cant be found, the images wont show a preview. I got this from Leo the other day, it might work.

Upload watermark through here :
http://yoursite.com/wp-admin/media-new.php

You simply place the location referenced in that media page to here, into the settings area where you assign your watermark.

http://yoursite.com/wp-admin/admin.php?page=symbiostock-control-options&tab=2settings

Then upload and process an image and see what happens.

Image Previews are now working as intended. In my case, the watermark png file pointed to in my Settings was not being read properly, for whatever reason. Uploading a new watermark file and putting the new location in the Settings allowed the Previews to generate again.

Very frustrating last 40 or so days. Glad that there turned out to be a solution.

some recent versions required a re install of the sym zip -- -- instead of deleting the old version, just rename the symbiostock folder to symbiostock.2.6.5 and then re-install (be sure to activate another theme first ).  then if the new version doesn't work, delete the symbiostock folder , rename the 2.6.5 one to plain symbiostock & you're back to the old system

in any case the 2.7.x series has fixed the problems being reported in 2.6.x.  if you can live with 2.6.x, wait a bit, but the eventual move to 2.7.x will be worth it

I just did a fresh install of symbiostock (first one for me) and had the same problem as you Dan.  There must be a bug.  The fix, like you say, was to create my own watermark, upload it, and point symbiostock to it's location.  Then, uploading and displaying images worked fine.
