We have discussed before the potential , for lack of a better word, "quality" of images that people who wish to join the network might upload.

To help people who have never done stock photography and have no idea about it who wish to join the Symbiostock network would it be worth suggesting that they upload somewhere say 5-10 varied images and some of us  when we have the time and inclination could say yes or no as to whether we would submit a particular image and why/why not ?

This would have two benefits in that  potential members would know what more experienced people thought and existing members could judge the quality and whether they wanted them in their network?

We all want clients that return and recommend us which means keeping the quality high

Any thoughts ?

as long as it's voluntary, it's a good idea -- could be oordinated by a section either here or on symbiostock.com

I think it's a good idea especially for those that have never done anything like stock work before.  Maybe a set of guidelines for both photographers and illustrators would be in order so they can get an idea of what buyers will expect from them.

On the opening page where new participants go when first starting out it might be advisable to have it set up as follows:

Already selling stock photos - start here (include link)
New to selling stock? Read this first. (include link)

An overview of acceptable technical and legal issues could be given such as model release, trademark & copyright, and technical concerns just to provide some basic education.

Pleased to hear this thought was not shot down  :)

Having  a "new to selling stock FAQ" seems a good idea and I have had the start of a thought for maybe advising on images.  I would have no intention of saying it was or was not good enough to use, just whether I would use it and why/why not.

The new to selling stock member could post the images on their own site (which they will need anyway if doing this)

If we have a FAQ page somewhere - maybe on Symbiostock.com if Leo thinks it is a good idea, could we have a (hidden) list of email addresses of volunteers that one message would be sent to listing the urls of the images and the email address then whoever has the time and inclination could respond with a yes/no and brief reason why - (out of focus, fringing, needs model/property release, noisy etc etc), we would not be teaching, nor saying "because I don't like it".

Or

There could be a thread here with just FAQ's and a list of members currently willing to help (which will obviously change over time) and the potential new member could PM those willing to help with a list of the URL's and we can reply

Or

Same as a above but new member posts list in forum and whoever wishes to responds does so publicly so everyone sees what is said and others can learn from it

I am sure there are lots more "or's" but it is late and I need to sleep

Then of course there would be all the FAQ's - anyone want to start ?

If you guys want to organize stuff like this among yourselves it would be very helpful. Symbiotsock is primarily about freedom to do these sorts of things.

http://www.symbiostock.com/forums/forum/support/

has a start on some of this, but the new front page buries this so new users may never find it -- might be useful to put the cimmunity  / forums stuff more prominently on that first page

first, for critiques, I think easiest is just to do what most other sites do -- ask people to post, then anyone who's interested can post about them

-----
there is a faq started on the main symbiostock site http://www.symbiostock.com/forums/topic/faq-frequently-asked-questions/  but all the activity has been here, so I've concentrated on keeping the FAQ on my website up to date at http://cascoly-images.com/pix/faq-frequently-asked-questions-about-symbiostock/

-----
right now, what we could really use are a couple of articles from some of the more recent installers about what they found easy or exasperating about getting started.  many of us are already so comfortable with this that we've forgotten many of the initial difficulties

yet another facet is getting up to speed on WP itself - i'm sure there are great tutorials out there, we just need someone to search them out and post so we can  link to them from the faq

-----
finally for the 'new to stock' people, besides the newbie sections here, we can also write articles about getting started  similar to http://cascoly.hubpages.com/hub/How-to-Succeed-in-the-Microstock-Arena  and http://cascoly.hubpages.com/hub/Can-you-make-money-from-your-photography  -- anyone  who wants can feel free to use these articles to expand or explore further, just change the wording as needed
