Title: Symbiostock works.
Post by: daveh900 on May 09, 2013, 18:54
3 sales so far this week, which makes 5 total for me.

If are thinking about starting a site, do it. It works.

This is just the beginning.

Leo has developed a fantastic product.

How much have you had to spend on marketing?  ;) Really happy to hear btw - thanks for posting! Your work is great.

Something for everyone to consider. Most people are going for the static front page look, emphasizing their photo/vector categories.

Notice that Dave has his blog updates right on the front page. I think this is a great idea. We know that search engines visit pages more often when they have frequent updates to text. It is "assumed" that this carries an SEO advantage, though it is impossible to quantify.

From what I can gather, the majority of my traffic is coming straight from Google to the image pages. I have had over 5,000 unique page views in the last 30 days. Of those, under 400 were my home page.

Buyers are already looking for a specific image when they search Google, they are not searching for another place to search for images.

The majority of the searches that hit my site are people using the words "vector" and "free". That's why I have an very high bounce rate of almost 90%. Most people are looking for free. They hit one of my image pages and find that it is not "free", and they bounce.

2.0 release focuses on this very much

My experience with Warmpicture was/is identical. At least 95% of the sales were a result of someone landing directly on the image, or a returning customer. Almost nobody landed on the front page as a new visitor and then bought an image.

However I "assume" that a fresh front page will have positive effects on the entire site. Hence the advantage of emphasizing blog posts, and updates or specials.

Great vectors, Dave! Continued success to you!   8)

You could have some fun with that mentality :D

Instead of showing the purchasing table (which people react and push back button) maybe it can have a giant DOWNLOAD button! Then when you click the button the table expands with buying options which says "Your almost there!"

At least then not only would they bounce, but they'd most likely be PO'd. But you'd still get some more attn than usual.

Leo,

We nearly doubled our conversion rate when we changed our button from "Buy Now" to a green "Download" button. As an example from Warmpicture -

http://www.warmpicture.com/stock-photos/food-beverages_g37~ear-of-corn_p454.html (http://www.warmpicture.com/stock-photos/food-beverages_g37~ear-of-corn_p454.html)

Is the "Go to Licenses and Images" button configurable so we can change the text to "Download" or "Download Now"?

Maybe you can open up a thread and vote/talk about what you'd like the button to say. 2.0 is under way! If you want to work on conversion rates by modifying that page a bit, I will put some hours into it. Doubling conversion rates - yes! Anything to double, triple...

I like the simpler "Download" button idea.

this high bounce  rate AND most traffic coming from google images is why I've concluded the best networking strategy is going to be showing similar, not complementary sites - people already want something specific, so we should try to keep them within the network

"Go To Licenses and Images" really doesn't make any sense to me as a buyer. Download, or even Buy Now would be much clearer. Download worked better for us because it drew people in better than announcing that they are about to buy something. I know, I know. It's totally bizarre, but consumer psychology is both bizarre and fascinating.

Leo, couldn't you allow the CSS button to grab a user defined text string, maybe from a simple config file?

I agree, I don't like "Go To Licenses and Images".
I would like to see Dan's suggestion  implemented - a big green button with Download, or Download Now.

Okee dokee. I think we'll just make this REAL simple. BIG GREEN DOWNLOAD button. Thats it :D

Edit - looking good! You'll be able to see it on tonight's previews :D

Hi all,

I copy paste from Pond5 some code to display some HD videos. Not sure how to remove to put 2 on the same row though....
