Title: Where can I download Symbiostock and the premium upgrade?
Post by: niserin on July 15, 2014, 13:48
Hi,

As far as I can see the symbiostock website is dead and the project is cancelled. I consider it disrespectful towards people who paid for the premium upgrade and/or the child theme and more importantly spent A LOT of time creating the site and supporting the project.
Nevertheless, I would need a symbiostock theme with a premium upgrade (I paid for it) for a small project.
Does anyone one where I can download it?

Thanks,

This is what Leo posted just after shutting down.

You can download the latest version here: https://github.com/orangeman555/symbiostock

I think the premium upgrade you previously downloaded should work for this new project as well.

Thanks chromaco, it works.
I still like symbiostock, my bitter words are just because I am disappointed that Leo withdrawn from the project.

I know. Me too. My sites are still making me money so I have a different impression than a lot of people here. Leo had a vision for what he wanted symbio to be. He had thought that other programmers would jump on board and it could be a larger community developing a project together. Multiple people all working together to create a great outcome. As soon as it became clear that it was just him it started to become a burden that he simply could not bear. I think we need to cut him some slack because his theme really has a lot of cool features and works remarkably well. And it's still free. Maybe someday Symbio will have a rebirth in a new form. Hope so.

I hope so as well! Even some paid options would be totally fine for me.

One more question - is there any documentation or symbiostock forum backup ?

Leo told me today he is currently working on transferring the forum and the collective to their respective new homes. Hopefully both of those will be back available soon.
The .org site is working for documentation only right now. The forum side is locked for commenting. So if you need some guidance it should be working for you.

Well... symbiostock.org is down. I mean the documentation and forums that could be accessed from there.

Is there any other source I am not aware of ?

Thanks

There is still a good amount of documentation in the Symbiostock forum here and you can ask any questions that come up too.

Does this mean that forum will be enabled again at symbiostock.org?

sorry, in the thread on Stocksy, i called you... (you know that other site that we read so much about.. and then the owner just left,.. or whatnot).
yes, i really meant Symbiostock.

i mentioned you as an alternative to the status quo (...monopoly??? SS Getty) and something besides the flavour of the times (Stocksy, Offset).

is anyone seeing good results with this?  can you see this as a viable alternative to say, as one of my colleagues.. left microstock ... to do it on his selfie via ebay...
and he says he is doing just fine. would never go back to micro stock ever.

i am not ebay sort of personality, so i like the idea of Symbiostock.
how much workflow should one expect to perform?  if one does as much as one have done for microstock or even midstock, would one be better off with Symbio???

sorry if i sound "new". i am not new (to photography)... just new to the web and the new possibility.

It depends on your own marketing your specific content etc. the possibilities are endless but just setting up a site will not be enough!
What does sell your colleague on Ebay? Prints?

my colleague sells ready for framing prints, like the ones you see in gallery or photo club. amazing what someone would pay for a 8 by 10 or 11 by 14. and it is not stock stuff.  awhile back i also attended one of his photo clubs and exhibition, (more for the cheese and wine, lol)... but i was there for a day just to see who buys.  i was surprise how many people actually came in to buy framed prints of (ahem) nothing really special.. not the Ansel Adams or even Robert Bateman type of prints, but just "oh, honey, this one will go well with our mantel-piece. yes, dear, and this one will be wonderful for the den, etc".

i almost fainted when i saw them signed a cheque for quite a lot of money (hint, a lot more than what we get for an extended licence).

unfortunately, i am not into that sort of framed print media. i like works of Adams or Karsh, or even at worst, David Hamilton smear of nose - oil over your lens pictures,lol... but not this framed print "perfect for the colour of our wall, dear " stuff.

but yes, these guys make money, and they carry Hasselblads (film format) too... mostly pensioners.
psst, and the noise you see there is horrendous.  but buyers don't see the golf balls.

we are in the wrong business, you think???  as many said to me when i mentioned i was in stock photography beside being an events photographer locally, "bfff, i would never go back into stock photography, ever !!!".  (which i muttered under my breath, "you would not , i am sure, due to the golf ball sized noise")... but who am i to say , huh ??? :o
