Happy Independence Day!
Here's a quick 600-700 word article I wrote this morning for my Symbiostock blog:
http://dpstockphotos.com/5-great-sources-for-affordable-stock-photos/ (http://dpstockphotos.com/5-great-sources-for-affordable-stock-photos/)
The article features 4 artist/category choices in my network. If I didn't feature your site yet, I will in the future. I just took a quick glance at my partners, took note of some of their strengths, and gave them the spotlight. I look forward to doing more in the coming weeks and months.
This is an example of what we should be doing more of. When writing articles, you want to serve yourself by serving others.
Solve a problem -
"Where can I get stock photos at a decent price?"
"How can I support artists instead of agencies?"
"Who has a good collection of 'Widget' stock photos?"
The goal is to get articles like this noticed by potential customers, or anyone interested in the artist community. When articles create a buzz and get shared in social communities, search engines take notice and the links inside of the article (and of course the website hosting the article) get more respect from the search engines.
The more articles we write, the more awareness we raise for the Symbiostock network and the more domain authority we build for our URL's. Part of your domain building should be article creation. Since you are working within a Wordpress theme, it couldn't be easier.
If you don't feel comfortable writing an article, I might have time to "guest blog" an article for you. In the meantime, get writing and start to produce shareable material.

Great initiative

Great idea, are there any external sites we could put the article on?

Good question Picture.
Generally you don't want to cross-copy articles. Google wants to see one version only, and apparently penalizes any copies. What you are looking for however is called "Guest Blogging".
In Guest Blogging, you write an article for a blog site. It is a symbiotic relationship. The website wants fresh and interesting content for their readers. And the writer wants some publicity and back links to their own website.
Anyone who wants to try this should try the website - MyBlogGuest.com. You don't need to become a premium member. Just check the forums for websites looking for your type of articles, and offer it to them. It's a great way to get the word out to people and build your domain authority.

Your article looks terrific Dan. Thanks for featuring my site. Now the pressure is on to learn a little bit about programming so I can dress it up a bit. Need to add more images too!

Thanks Karen. It's a pleasure networking with you, and having had your awesome portfolio on Warmpicture.

Good work. I made comments on the blog, as well as linked from my blog... hope the links help.

thanks for the mention in the article!
another good site to post is hubpages - they have a good record of getting high placement in google searches.
I've written one article on symbio http://cascoly.hubpages.com/hub/Symbiostock-How-to-Create-Your-Own-Photography-Selling-Site (http://cascoly.hubpages.com/hub/Symbiostock-How-to-Create-Your-Own-Photography-Selling-Site)
you can easily start your own hub account, or I can post guest blogs there -- the one restriction of hubpages is they are very strict on their no duplication policy

Great job! Great thing to wake up to :D. I really appreciate the effort too.
Another thing to try:
Finding a key phrase regarding "selling my own stock photos". Something moderately competed for that would land you on results for ktools, or photoshelter...or similar.
Write a strongly keyword optimized post for that.
THEN sub-promote it by having everyong write a short blogpost concerning it, POINTING to it, also tweating about it, and other public internet references. We would use the same keywords you've optimized for.
It would be like an SEO magnifying glass on your article.
